Lawsuit prevents MS from talking about Live's status

Speaking about the issue in his latest podcast, Major Nelson talks about Xbox Live still acting wonky and why he and Microsoft can no longer update the gaming community on the service's status. And it should come as no surprise that it's because of legalities.

Major Nelson says that he and Microsoft haven't talked about or updated Live users about the Xbox Live service lately, because they are legally gagged. Currently, there's an Xbox Live outage lawsuit taking place in Texas (concerning the Live down time last December) and because of that, Major has to be shush about all things concerning the status of the Xbox Live service. No more blog updates, Twitter updates or comments. We'll be pretty much in the dark if anything should go wrong with Live until the Texas lawsuit is over. Humf to that.

U.S. law is international law when the company has its headquarters in the U.S. If Microsoft was based out of your country and this happened we would have to follow your law. Just how law goes. It sucks but its a fact of life now a days.

If they are not allowed to give status. Then why do the US and GB sites both say Up and Running?

COD4 is not working good, and never has worked great without a few hitches. I was a level 49 in the 4th prestige with a kill/death ratio of 2.29, and the next time I logged on I was down to a level 33 in the 4th prestige with a kill/death ratio of 2.21. It's as if the COD4 servers forgot I had played all over my christmas break; did anyone else have or hear of a similar problem?

COD4 servers suck so much, despite the game being addictive and some of the most fun I've ever had.

Anything over 1.0 is good obviously, we should party up sometime on COD4 if you're interested TORO.

So let me get this straight.

Now you don't believe in karma because it doesn't fit your circumstance, and evidently you give a software company oral sex for your xbox live service, and as my LIVE connection is evidently better then yours, you assume I must be doing a better job at performing this sexual act upon MS then you?

Damn Dude. I just give them my credit card for my LIVE service, maybe if you paid for it rather then "worked it off" you may get better service????

I'm having multiplayer issues. Can't find matches and I get kicked off live once in a while. This is taking them a long time to fix!

Anyways. It's incredibly easy to be frustrated with the service. Everyones arguing that service is fine, service sucks, etc. It really seems to be dependent on the person. I have 0 issues if i try to play anything by myself (I mean on Live, but without forming a party.. joining games solo.) My friend has tons of issues just trying to connect to live in general at the same time. If i try to get into a game of, say, CoD4 with a party of 2 or more, not going to happen. The only way i've been able to play CoD4 is alone (which doesnt bother me too much, i'm still playing right?) I've seen this as a great time to nail achievements that i've neglected due to CoD4's superior gameplay.

So: You've been alive for several years before LIVE was created. You did it before, do it again. I think this law suit will screw us over, so i'm not thrilled about it. I don't care about a free game. I don't care about a lawsuit. I don't care about compensation for my lost 4$ in service (since technically, to an extent, it's been OK for me.) I just care about it being 100% fine, and i care about status updates in the mean time to keep us out of the dark. Now they sued. Now that's not happening. So i hope everyones going to enjoy the same wait.....only in pure darkness!

Yeah but back then we weren't paying for a service that is inconsistent at best. The point of it all is that M$ collects around $400 million a year in live subscriptions and should be keeping things running all the time, scheduled maintenance aside. It says in the user agreement that you won't have more than 3 days of LIVE connectivity issues, yet some people have been without for weeks. Included in that group are the guys who are suing M$, and they have every right to over breach of contract. Everyone seems to enjoy setting up their little soapbox in the cheap seats and saying these guys are dicks and whatever because now it inconveniences you cuz you can't get updated on the fact that it doesn't work and they don't know when it will be fixed. Give me a break! The reason they're offering a free game is cuz it costs them close to nothing, and not everyone will download it, whereas if they offered to extend everyone's live subscription then EVERYONE would benefit. All in all, they're getting what they deserve over fucking the online gaming community and not giving a shit. They should be ashamed of themselves.

What a complete load! They got it wrong over the holidays with the dodgy service but does it really warrant a lawsuit??? Throw it out and remove the gagging order so we can at least know when it fixed! IDIOTS!

um i never got no apology on either xbl account i have and nor a game so i guess microsoft lied and scammed people again gates is a crooked person and stole apples idea basically and is rich off of it til this day
