Rock Band Weekly: Blink 182, The Monkees and Sweet
It's the last train to "Rock"sville and I'll meet you at the station. This week's Rock Band downloadable content is all about high energy songs. Although Sweet is sweet, and you should feel free to play All The Small Things while naked, the real stand-out this week is The Monkees' Last Train to Clarksville. Not only will a new generation actually learn the lyrics past the first line, but it's a really, really, fun song to play with a group of friends over. It was playable at Harmonix when we visited them in November, which gives a good idea of how on-the-ball they are with the DLC.

So so SO glad to see more Sweet, The Monkees' track is an awesome choice, and the Blink song will probably be a fun group song although I think there could have been a better choice for them.
All in all, pretty happy again this week.
jsn @ Jan 14th 2008 12:18PM
yup.
Tiptup300 @ Jan 14th 2008 3:18PM
BLINK 182 YEEEEEEEEESH!
Rob @ Jan 14th 2008 12:22PM
I'll be picking up The Monkees and Blink 182 for sure. Another great week =)
lordfavre @ Jan 14th 2008 12:20PM
If it's this easy to put 3 new DLC songs out every week for Rock Band, you would think they would have a good 90-100 songs that ship with the game.
Kyera @ Jan 14th 2008 12:35PM
Maybe if you want to pay $100+ for the disc. :)
Roxxorsmash @ Jan 14th 2008 12:28PM
Blink 182. Sweet, blissful adolescence. Those were the days.
Mike @ Jan 14th 2008 12:28PM
Of all the Blink 182 songs they could have used they had to go with one of the bubble gum ones. I'll still buy it, but I would have preferred Dammit, Dumpweed, Dysentery Gary, or The Party Song.
Roxxorsmash @ Jan 14th 2008 12:31PM
No "What's My Name Again?"
markhawk @ Jan 14th 2008 6:33PM
I agree with you all the way. I was hoping for "Easy target" or "so sorry it's over" something off the first 2 or last 2. I loved this CD but I do agree that this was the bubble gum of blink 182. None the less I am glad to see a band that I have been dieing to see in these games for some time. Maybe next time will get some Plus 44!
Travis @ Jan 14th 2008 12:31PM
Wow...A Monkees track is so random...but i lOVE IT!
Kevin @ Jan 14th 2008 12:31PM
Hey, at least you Blink fans get a song. Where's the 311 love already?
tcc3 @ Jan 14th 2008 12:48PM
Theres no such thing.
{ooo burn} =)
No, really 311 has a few ok tracks.
jsn @ Jan 14th 2008 1:06PM
311 has to happen at some point. If they want some modern music that can bring the heat from a difficulty standpoint, it doesn't get much better than 311. Guitar, drums and bass are all technically great players.
baby sea tuna @ Jan 14th 2008 1:32PM
The only good thing 311 ever did was beating the shit out of that clownshoe from Creed.
Seriously, I'd rather listen to the Monkees...and they're not even a real band!
Joseph @ Jan 14th 2008 10:31PM
If it were Creatures (For a While) and nothing else, I'd say yes.
Kevin @ Jan 18th 2008 1:28PM
Oh goody. People who don't like 311. Get lost, will ya. They've got a huge following, regardless of your opinion. And they're very talented musicians who have stayed together when most of their contemporaries have disbanded. Hate all you want on their music, but you should wish there were more bands like them.
Joe @ Jan 14th 2008 12:34PM
This week does nothing for me. I hate Blink 182, the Monkees are my mom's music and I dislike them, and I've never heard the Sweet song.
Oh well, there's new DLC every week, so it's OK if there's some I don't like.
bounchfx @ Jan 14th 2008 1:05PM
"I've never heard the Sweet song."
aka it's automatically bad?
are you that afraid to get into new music?
by the way, I hadn't heard of it either and it's the best song this week (imo)
tmacairjordan87 @ Jan 14th 2008 1:42PM
"it's the best song this week (imo)"
that's not saying much when you listen to those 3 vids up there >.<
here's hoping for some good stuff next week
Roxxorsmash @ Jan 14th 2008 12:38PM
Oh hey, does anyone know which day this comes out?
Donald @ Jan 14th 2008 1:28PM
Tuesday
MasterInsan0 @ Jan 14th 2008 1:59PM
Thursday if you're on PS3.
Travis @ Jan 14th 2008 12:43PM
The more i think about it...the monkees track should have been "Valleri"
That would have been sweet...
DCBlack @ Jan 14th 2008 12:45PM
So...Pink Floyd? Zeppelin? AC/DC? And I personally would like to see some H.I.M.
Still, at least RB is reliable with the DLC each week at a fair price/options. Activision is dropping the ball right now.
Farseer (GDI) @ Jan 14th 2008 1:02PM
Thank you! Don't get me wrong, I've loved the DLC so far, but come on! RB is perfect for Zep, Floyd, and AC/DC.
MasterInsan0 @ Jan 14th 2008 2:00PM
If they put out master AC/DC song packs, they'll have my money. Covers, eh...maybe.
Djg @ Jan 14th 2008 2:36PM
Pink Floyd with noone playing keyboards wouldnt be as fun :(, same goes for some Led Zep songs.
Gangsta Smurf @ Jan 14th 2008 12:45PM
Oh my God! Why the FUCK did I buy Guitar Hero III?!
JJ Rooster @ Jan 14th 2008 1:02PM
Agreed! GH is doing nothing but getting pounded and taking it! I'm done with that series.
Egon Pax @ Jan 14th 2008 4:58PM
Indeed! I'm tired of the GH series definitely. RB all the way!
DCBlack @ Jan 15th 2008 1:08AM
I'll still look into GHIV, but they better add some new kind of gameplay that's truly innovative. If they put out the same game with a bunch of new songs, I probably won't pick it up, at least not until the price drops way down. Same goes for if they just do some kind of RB copycat where they come out with drum peripherals and such.
moominsean @ Jan 14th 2008 12:47PM
i must be getting old. the monkees track is the only one i've heard. and that was still before my time.
john @ Jan 14th 2008 1:28PM
This week's hidden theme is Bubblegum substitutes.
The Monkees were the bubblegum substitute for the Beatles.
The Sweet were the bugglegum substitue for 70s glam/metal.
Blink 182 are bubblegum substitutes for modern punk.
Kevin Balko @ Jan 14th 2008 1:58PM
when do these songs become available?
Nate @ Jan 14th 2008 1:31PM
In general I hate bubblegum music, but I actually really like Blink 182, and this song sounds like it has som really awesome drums. I don't know Sweet, and honestly, I don't really like the song, but it sounds like it has some killer guitar in it, which saves it for me. The Monkees? Really? I guess it's good to start appealing to a wider audience, but, man.
Eric @ Jan 14th 2008 1:41PM
I would like to see the beatles. but i'm sure they can't. Just like led and Ac Dc, they will not let them have the rights.
Garrett @ Jan 14th 2008 1:43PM
if I never hear that blink 182 song again, it'll be too soon.
BeckRokk @ Jan 14th 2008 1:59PM
I love that there's consistently new DLC every week, but where the *bloop* is Who's Next already?
lyrebird @ Jan 14th 2008 2:23PM
So, a song by a band who pretended to play their instruments for a game that requires you to pretend to play an instrument? I wonder if this is a tongue-in-cheek gesture by Harmonix?
AMB @ Jan 14th 2008 7:21PM
this is just turning into a bad karaoke game. isn't it called "ROCK" Band? Where's the F'n rawk!! \m/
T3H WICKERMAN (FDF) @ Jan 14th 2008 9:56PM
Youve got your schlock rock, bubblegum rock, and shit...I mean pop punk rock. Relax we will get Dokken soon and then you will indeed be rokken like Dokken. Since that guy above asks for 311 every week I will also ask for bat out of hell and bruce springsteens candys room. Make it happen!!!
MC @ Jan 14th 2008 3:12PM
Last train to clarksville is definately a possibility for me. I generally don't like covers, but with this song, I wouldn't mind one.
I was never a fan of the "pop punk" or whatever you would group Blink 182 under. The winey 5-year old vocals just turn me off. I can understand their bubblegum popularity, but personally, I just can't listen to it.
And I still would like Muse and Pearl Jam to kick their way over to the Rock Band side too. And maybe some Interpol or something from the newest Dinosaur Jr cd would work really well.
why not the LS2/LS7? @ Jan 14th 2008 4:02PM
Monkees would be awesome. Kinda sad it's a cover.
Monkeydog @ Jan 14th 2008 4:34PM
Love the news, love the songs, love the idea of The Monkees.
Just sad it's not Daydream Believer.
Rob Accomando @ Jan 14th 2008 4:39PM
a Monkees song?? YESS!! Rock Band keeps getting better and better.
How long will they keep this up?
why not the LS2/LS7? @ Jan 14th 2008 5:43PM
So Sweet is on RB twice now, with Ballroom Blitz and Action, and they're both covers.
Poor guys. Apparently their stuff is well sought after but they can't figure out to make it available.
Kyera @ Jan 14th 2008 7:43PM
The HMX devs have said that they use masters whenever the masters are of usable quality. The masters are probably not mixed in a usable manner for Rock Band (which is also why GH3 has a NotB master and RB has a cover).
miffy495 @ Jan 15th 2008 5:57AM
Meh, seems like an OK week given that Rock Band is something I do on Sunday nights when I visit my family now. Monkees for my mom, Sweet for myself and her boyfriend, Blink 182 for my little sister (killer drummer) and as a bit of a nostalgia thing for when I was in 9th grade, had that album, and thought they were good. Could be a hell of a lot worse.
Definitely agreed about Who's Next though. Grateful Dead pack and Nevermind too pls. Where the hell are these albums we were promised?
MarkHawk @ Jan 16th 2008 3:00AM
With Travis Barker such a great drummer you would of thought they'd pick a better Travis Barker song... BLink 182 isn't terrible but there are songs they've had that were great.
Whens the Green Day?
My Friends Over you by New Found Glory I'd love to buy.
Hopefully this isn't the end of non cover songs.
