It's the last train to "Rock"sville and I'll meet you at the station. This week's Rock Band downloadable content is all about high energy songs. Although Sweet is sweet, and you should feel free to play All The Small Things while naked, the real stand-out this week is The Monkees' Last Train to Clarksville. Not only will a new generation actually learn the lyrics past the first line, but it's a really, really, fun song to play with a group of friends over. It was playable at Harmonix when we visited them in November, which gives a good idea of how on-the-ball they are with the DLC.
Last Train to Clarksville - The Monkees *Cover* (160 MS points/ $2)
All The Small Things - Blink 182 (160 MS Points / $2)
As the inability to preview songs still causes us nightmares, we scavenged the internets and placed videos for you to make informed DLC purchasing decisions after the break.
So so SO glad to see more Sweet, The Monkees' track is an awesome choice, and the Blink song will probably be a fun group song although I think there could have been a better choice for them.
Of all the Blink 182 songs they could have used they had to go with one of the bubble gum ones. I'll still buy it, but I would have preferred Dammit, Dumpweed, Dysentery Gary, or The Party Song.
I agree with you all the way. I was hoping for "Easy target" or "so sorry it's over" something off the first 2 or last 2. I loved this CD but I do agree that this was the bubble gum of blink 182. None the less I am glad to see a band that I have been dieing to see in these games for some time. Maybe next time will get some Plus 44!
311 has to happen at some point. If they want some modern music that can bring the heat from a difficulty standpoint, it doesn't get much better than 311. Guitar, drums and bass are all technically great players.
Oh goody. People who don't like 311. Get lost, will ya. They've got a huge following, regardless of your opinion. And they're very talented musicians who have stayed together when most of their contemporaries have disbanded. Hate all you want on their music, but you should wish there were more bands like them.
I'll still look into GHIV, but they better add some new kind of gameplay that's truly innovative. If they put out the same game with a bunch of new songs, I probably won't pick it up, at least not until the price drops way down. Same goes for if they just do some kind of RB copycat where they come out with drum peripherals and such.
In general I hate bubblegum music, but I actually really like Blink 182, and this song sounds like it has som really awesome drums. I don't know Sweet, and honestly, I don't really like the song, but it sounds like it has some killer guitar in it, which saves it for me. The Monkees? Really? I guess it's good to start appealing to a wider audience, but, man.
So, a song by a band who pretended to play their instruments for a game that requires you to pretend to play an instrument? I wonder if this is a tongue-in-cheek gesture by Harmonix?
Youve got your schlock rock, bubblegum rock, and shit...I mean pop punk rock. Relax we will get Dokken soon and then you will indeed be rokken like Dokken. Since that guy above asks for 311 every week I will also ask for bat out of hell and bruce springsteens candys room. Make it happen!!!
Last train to clarksville is definately a possibility for me. I generally don't like covers, but with this song, I wouldn't mind one.
I was never a fan of the "pop punk" or whatever you would group Blink 182 under. The winey 5-year old vocals just turn me off. I can understand their bubblegum popularity, but personally, I just can't listen to it.
And I still would like Muse and Pearl Jam to kick their way over to the Rock Band side too. And maybe some Interpol or something from the newest Dinosaur Jr cd would work really well.
The HMX devs have said that they use masters whenever the masters are of usable quality. The masters are probably not mixed in a usable manner for Rock Band (which is also why GH3 has a NotB master and RB has a cover).
Meh, seems like an OK week given that Rock Band is something I do on Sunday nights when I visit my family now. Monkees for my mom, Sweet for myself and her boyfriend, Blink 182 for my little sister (killer drummer) and as a bit of a nostalgia thing for when I was in 9th grade, had that album, and thought they were good. Could be a hell of a lot worse.
Definitely agreed about Who's Next though. Grateful Dead pack and Nevermind too pls. Where the hell are these albums we were promised?
With Travis Barker such a great drummer you would of thought they'd pick a better Travis Barker song... BLink 182 isn't terrible but there are songs they've had that were great.
Whens the Green Day? My Friends Over you by New Found Glory I'd love to buy.
