Factor 5 – the once-fondly remembered studio responsible for the popular Rogue Squadron series back in the good ol' Gamecube days – is working on an all new Wii project after their first PS3 outing failed to find an audience. Even though Factor 5's Gamecube releases graphically outshine almost every Wii release to date, we're heartened to read that their Wii project is not going to be powered by their existing Rogue Squadron tech, instead opting for a "significantly updated" or even completely new engine. Now, what that fancy new technology is going to be used for is anyone's guess. As long as it's got a tow cable lying level, we'll be there.
[Thanks, Fernando and John]

You know, your description of the controls make me realize that Wii is the ideal platform for an in cockpit mech game (like mechwarrior)
But if factor 5 is making a starfox game, I think I'd squeal like a schoolgirl. If they're making ANOTHER star wars game, I think I'd say "meh" and never play it.

Here's hoping they ditch the lame Medieval Dragon crap and opt for another Star Wars or hell, even Battlestar Galactica type flight sim.

How about we mash the medieval dragon theme with Star Wars?
If Namco can justify it, then I'm sure Factor 5 can too.

Well if it’s another Rogue Squadron game I’m hoping for 16-player online campaign co-op with some players manning cruiser turrets while the rest man space fighters. I’d also like a better fleshed out story for a change with perhaps having a new recruit instead of simply reliving (again) the famous battles through Luke or Wedge. Let’s get some cutscenes or dialog involving new characters.
And if it’s a totally new property, then I hope it’s not some “mini-game fest” or overly “casual” effort like the most of the other developers tend to lean on when it comes to Wii “support.” Lair was something I hoped for when it started to weight on me that Factor 5 was only doing RS games on the Cube. A “failure” it might have been, I hope they strive for something fresh when they jump on the Wii ship but with better results.
I'm not a big fan of Pilot Wings either so I'm hoping it's not that (or not only that). A Star Fox game wouldn't a bad idea for them to tackle but Rogue Squadron III should give us pause to reconsider since I'm not eager for someone to simply do another Star Fox Assault. Frankly, I'm more interested to expand and develop the Star Fox Adventures take on the series but with more a good blend of Zelda, typical RPG fly anywhere world maps, and, well, rail shooters like Star Fox. I'm thinking adding many of Wing Commander's features (i.e. auto-pilot navigation to get through space and stop midway for combat, dialog trees, even selection trees, etc.) We should also be able to fly to and explore the Great Fox and go through different rooms (just like in Wing Commander) to chat up with our colleagues, man turrets, upgrade the ships, etc.

So a company that sucks at doing motion controls and is great at graphics, is making a game for a system dependent on motion controls, and is the weakest in terms of graphic power?

Hopefully this game doesn't need a game reviewer's guide.

They last left nintendo because RS3 didn't do very well.
They made a poor quality rushed title and blamed the system. They have talked a lot of shite and they think they can just turn that all around and come back. Good luck... and try to finish this game before you sell it.

Sorry for the double post but... make a Wing Commander game. Reinvigorate that series and your presence in the industry with only one game.

I've been saying for months that Factor 5 should create a graphics engine for the Wii.
Heck, they could just license out a souped up Rogue Leader engine and it'd be better than 90% of Wii games.. easy money when all the other engine makers are ignoring the platform.

Uhm, yeah, Broadway is 1.5x Gekko but Hollywood is 3x faster than Flipper. Unfortunately they didn't increase the EFB so the Wii is still limited to 480p, however they did double the pipelines.
The Broadway die shrink should also increase efficiency past the 1.5x mark over the GC. Broadway is 1/4 the size of Gekko but 1.5x the clockspeed. However, both Gekko and Hollywood, like their direct PPC counterparts (750GX and 750CL) feature adjustable clockspeeds. So when needed, the Hollywood can be 2.0x of the Gekko.
