Rumor: Guitar Hero sequel to star U2
Now that we've had a taste of mixing the peanut butter of drumming and vocals with the chocolate of guitar and bass, it's hard for us not to wish exciting news about Guitar Hero would replace the words "guitar" and "hero" with "rock" and "band." The newest nugget from EGM's Quatermann is a perfect example. In the latest issue of the magazine, the rumor monger hints that a standalone sequel to Guitar Hero is in the works based around the music of Irish rockers U2.Now, don't get us wrong, we'll be excited to channel our inner The Edge, but who doesn't want to be Bono? Or, to a far lesser extent, Larry Mullen Jr.? ... Oh, before we forget, we should mention that our Rock Band/Guitar Hero news juxtaposition law doesn't apply to whatever assault of depression Aerosmith's crafting. Guitar Hero can keep that. -- Or jettison it into blackest space. Either way.

I haven't played GH since I got Rock Band. Its so much more fun.
jsn @ Jan 14th 2008 2:54PM
GH is a sold out franchise. U2 makes good songs, but guitar hero? Give me an F'n break... I'd love to see some of their stuff in rock band, but it has no business being anywhere near the name guitar hero.
TheWarden @ Jan 14th 2008 2:07PM
Bono is #2.
JakubK666 @ Jan 14th 2008 2:43PM
Yeah I wandered how many comments would it be before somebody would make that joke :) God I love South Park. Guitar Queer-o FTW!
DCBlack @ Jan 15th 2008 1:26AM
If that's true, then GH is producing "more crap."
FidliousWong @ Jan 14th 2008 2:07PM
Agreed. I once had the stance of not buying DLC for games but Rock Band changed that for me. And given that Rock Band is truly a class act compared to what Activision has turned GH into, it'd be hard to get excited about GH even if they announced an all The Refreshments mix.
AirIntake @ Jan 14th 2008 2:08PM
If they made a U2 only GH game, I would buy it. Of course, I would buy all things U2, so that's not a surprise.
GRANTED @ Jan 14th 2008 2:08PM
i do not want to be bono
gwangi @ Jan 14th 2008 2:10PM
Cool another Guitar Hero game I can skip buying.
Tiger of PTS @ Jan 14th 2008 2:27PM
Sweet. More Guitar Hero filler that no real music gamer would ever buy.
nickfawwaz3 @ Jan 15th 2008 6:25PM
now youre just making up genres
Marty @ Jan 14th 2008 2:14PM
Rockband lets you beat on a drum set, but both GH and RB should ship with a dead horse in the box next time, so you can beat that instead.
SID SPACE @ Jan 14th 2008 2:16PM
The only thing GHIII did right was the guitar.
McWeen @ Jan 14th 2008 2:17PM
Does it replace the star power with pretentious/overrated power?
themxtr @ Jan 16th 2008 1:12AM
THANK YOU very much! I hate Bono, "ooh, i care about the world, so everyone go buy our cds because it will help save america!". idiot.

Oh oh, it's going to be a U2 hater thread. It hard not to hate success.
baby sea tuna @ Jan 14th 2008 2:33PM
Most people don't hate U2 because of their success, most people hate them because they haven't made a decent album in 15 years.
paragraph @ Jan 14th 2008 2:43PM
@baby sea tuna
They've been around longer than that, Wikipedia says the last time U2 Made Anything good was 1975, a full year BEFORE they got together... those were better times...
Honestly, nothing U2 has ever done has made me like them :\
But i guess i can unleash my inner The Edge one of these days...
baby sea tuna @ Jan 14th 2008 2:51PM
I was A) giving them the benefit of the doubt and B)trying to avoid doing any real research.
Honestly, I've been a hater ever since that Negativland debacle back in the early '90s: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Negativland#The_U2_record_incident
AirIntake @ Jan 14th 2008 3:07PM
Please enlighten me as to who HAS made a decent album in the last 15 years? Perhaps I'm missing out on some awesome stuff?
Shagittarius @ Jan 14th 2008 3:14PM
The Melvins - Stoner Witch 1994, best album made in the last 15 years.

Thanks, Shag, I'm downloading it now.

EA:
Guitar Hero III in the same year as Guitar Hero II.
2008: Guitar Hero IV.
2009: Guitar Hero V.
2010: Guitar Hero VI.
2011: Guitar Hero VII.
2012: Guitar Hero VIII and Guitar Hero Blitz.

Anybody else completely and utterly sick of hearing about Guitar Hero and Rock Band??
Farseer (GDI) @ Jan 14th 2008 2:34PM
Wow, I haven't even thought about GH since I got RB. It's so much more fun to play with 4 people instead of 2.
Farseer (GDI) @ Jan 14th 2008 2:35PM
And I never paid a cent for any GH DLC, but have definitely been buying songs for RB. I like paying $2.00 for a song I want instead of $6.00 for a song I want and 2 songs I could care less about.

let's whore out a great franchise to specific artists and alienate all the people that don't like those artists.

I think GH is dead for me, Rock Band is the only Music game i keep playing. New content all the time makes it the best choice.
Vegeta (aka Ska Oreo) @ Jan 14th 2008 2:49PM
And this is my dilemma. I want to get Guitar Hero 3(I find it fun, yeah I know blasphemy), but the one thing I'm not liking are the yearly sequels(also fuck U2). The thing I like about Rock Band are the downloadable full albums and the fact that Harmonix aren't planning on making sequel after sequel. But the one thing holding me back is the fact that I have to buy all the peripherals with the game. And that's something I don't want to do. Shit I might just get Guitar Hero 2(if I can find it). And then buy Guitar Hero 3.
Slaziman (B-B-BRUSHED WITH FAAAAME) @ Jan 14th 2008 3:33PM
you could illegaly download guitar hero 3 for PC and use the guitar hero 2 guitar you'll be getting to play it.
I bought a stand-alone Les Paul and the wireless gaming reciever for windows, and been playing it like that since
Crono (NDF - Knight of the Old School) @ Jan 14th 2008 3:59PM
omg HAX!
Or you could get Frets on Fire, and then legally download all the songs for it that are in guitar hero 1, 2, and 3 (complete with identical note charts).
Then you wouldn't have to switch games. just pick the songs you want to play.
Vegeta (aka Ska Oreo) @ Jan 14th 2008 4:18PM
Nah. I'd rather get the games for my 360. Also I don't play games on my pc anyways.
Joe @ Jan 14th 2008 2:54PM
GH is dead to me, I've moved with Harmonix to RB. Although I'm stuck on drums as of now, as my replacement is still up in the air.
And fuck U2. I swear to God, Bono needs to shut the fuck up and DO something about the world.
EMaster @ Jan 14th 2008 2:59PM
I thought Steve Tyler form Aerosmith said it was gonna
be about them?

Noooooo!! Great, I LOVE me some Guitar Hero and Rockband, but I I DETEST U2. Bono can burn in hell like the record-breaking turd he is. How big is he? 108 Courics?
Andy S. @ Jan 14th 2008 3:03PM
Oh, great. U2.
Does this mean that they'll include an effects pedal so that we can add a lame delay effect to everything we play, just like The Edge?
zero @ Jan 14th 2008 3:25PM
So you get to play as a grotesque, self-serving old man? No thanks.
Ghaleon @ Jan 14th 2008 3:27PM
Throw up.
Nate @ Jan 14th 2008 4:37PM
I don't care about Bono or U2. They're a pretty good band, but another guitar hero? Why bother? It's not like they're actually going to do anything innovative. Just give us a disk of songs. Or, god forbid, put some damn DLC up. Rock Band's not just winning because it's got drums, it's also winning because every single week there's more to play.
Crono (NDF - Knight of the Old School) @ Jan 14th 2008 5:07PM
I've blown roughly 30 dollars on RB DLC. Its the only DLC I've bought for any game.
