My question is I have 2 xbox live gamertag with gold accounts and they are used on the same system. 1 is mine the other my childs.
Now im planning on getting another xbox360 the elite.
Being that i purchased all the xbla content will i be able to download it on the other system since i will be gaming from it. I know there are issues, but id like to be able to backup or protect all the purchases i have, Since this is our 2nd xbox first one had 4 red rings luckily i didnt have a gold account then.

Damn, my questions didn't make it into this week, but I think I sent it after the publishing deadline (i.e. this morning). But they're qual. I won't reveal them here.

You'll just have to wait...for next week...

To the first question I'd also add how old are you? My little bro didn't get adds on his 360 until he turned 18... can't remember if it happened after the last update or before, their quite close together you see

Yes,

The reason James doesn't see the adds is due to having a child account. My twins never have the ads on their dashboard, although my wife, I, and adult kids do.

For James, it might be that he's opted out of marketing in his account setup. If you change that setting to opt in, there's a chance that you'll get those ads...just a guess.

I always opt out of all that marketing stuff when I sign up for anything and I still see the ads. Opting out keeps you from being on e-mail lists.

I have an adult account and I occasionally do not see adds and I think it could also be your connection. With the latest string of xbox live connectivity issues the ads and the marketplace have been terribly slow and or non-responsive.

When I got a new system back from the repair center after sending my old system in, I had the same licensing problems with my downloaded content. All I did was go to the marketplace and select download again on all of the content that I had bought. It worked like a charm.

I have always been somewhat annoyed (but mostly just confused) by people not knowing this, but I guess it turns out that it doesn't work all the time.

Does said content work whilst you're offline (not connected to XBL)?

It does now that I've done this. It didn't before.

I think that DC is downloaded to the hard drive, but is tied to the actual system it was downloaded onto. I think that all you do by re-downloading it is change the system that it is tied to.

Regardless of whether or not this works every time, it still is a pain and should be made easier.

Well it doesn't work for all folks or for all content.

Some Sega content in fact never works...again...

Well, that sucks.

Looks like I just got lucky. I only had three or four games and a few themes at that time, if it happened to me again, I would have a much harder time i suppose.

It's good luck, enjoy it while it lasts.

I have a lot of XBLA games, and the only one that's given me problems is Sonic (Sega content, as mentioned above). I'd rather just not play it at all than waste a bunch of time on the phone, especially if additional Gamertags are involved.

I didn't get the ads on the Dash until after my 360 red-ringed and I got my Elite. Even though I had been above 18 for the whole time I had my 360, I never got the ads.

Dang it Microsoft, FIX THE DLC problem! If my console fails (thanks to your hardware problems) I should *not* have to redownload everything! And it's such a stupid copy-protection issue---all the data is on the freakin' hard drive, and it's already associated with my Live ID---just *stop* associating it with the dang serial number!

If they come out with a 360 Slim, I'd probably buy it, but not if it means endless re-downloading.

The motive behind this is so that you can't go to your friends house, who doesn't really care about ever going online, recover your gamertag to his console download all your arcade games, and then he never brings his system online again, and he can forever use your arcade games on his console, while you still happily use them at home after re-recovering your gamertag again.

capish?

The stuff downloads instantly, so i don't see the problem... don't actually delete the content, just Redownload it.

as evidenced by this 133 page thread on the matter with complaints that re-downloading did s-f-a

@xenocidic - If you do that, you don't get the console key on the new console, so your buddy can't play the games on his console unless you're logged in. It doesn't work the way you think it does.

Concerning the premium content subject.

I have spent around 9 hours on the phone with MS trying to get the games back that I bought due to a faulty 360.
They actually did have me create a new gamer tag and windows live ID only to tell me the next time I called that they no longer refund points.
Then you call again and someone will tell you that they do refund points and back and forth. If there is a lawsuit about xbox live being down during x-mass then there should most definatly be a law suit about this bullshit. The bottom line is, no one, and I mean absolutly no one that you can contact through the 18004myxbox # has any power at all to help someone in this situation. At best 4 hours into it you'll get transfered to a supervisor that tries to sound like they're gonna fix the problem but all they can do is move it up the chain and tell you to call all over again in 23 days or so. This cycle kontinues over and over again and again. I have been trying to get the games moved from the old console since the beggining of October and I really don't have the patience to call them again. On an average I spend about 6 to 7 hours a month on the phone with MS, and it's not because I want to shoot the shit with them either. This is bullshit and someone needs to launch a class action lawsuit against them for this, so that everyone that has had to go through this can jump on and be a part of. The funny thing is, is that I still cannot stop buying games for the arcade despite the high probability of this refurb 360 busting on me.

What I'd like to know is how someone who covers 360 for a living still hasn't played Mass Effect. Slackers.

Probably because I'm too busy playing Halo 3, Rock Band, Orange Box, Mario Galaxy, Super Paper Mario, Metroid Prime: Corruption, re-playing Ninja Gaiden, etc.

I have just as much time and money as everyone else. It's not like I get these games for free. I'll play Mass Effect when I have the time.

Didn't mean any offense, but I compare it to someone at Rolling Stone missing the latest Radiohead album. I like to read news here assuming that the writers are keeping up specifically with the 360, and still not touching one of the AAA titles two months after its release date makes me question why I'm here. Everything else is great.

Fair enough, but Rolling Stone writers *do* get free albums. And they have more writers. I can more or less guarantee you that not every writer at Rolling Stone has listened to Radiohead's latest.

Just like probably not everyone at EGM played Mass Effect the first month it was out. They have enough writers to make it look like they did though.

We only have two.

Anyway, no big deal. I'm still looking forward to Mass Effect.

You won't be disappointed. COD4 online is where it's at.

And the chopper level in the single player campaign is good fun. You'll see.
