Multiplayer has an interesting little preview up for Lost Odyssey, the upcoming RPG from Mistwalker starring an immortal man with amnesia. We've reported before that a significant portion of the game is taken up by flashbacks. The twist is that these flashbacks are actually written short stories for the player to read (if desired). While Multiplayer reports that the game is more or less aimed squarely at Final Fantasy fans, the short stories are apparently an entertaining diversion. It's explained that one of the reasons these stories are so entertaining is that they are significantly different from things tried in other, similar Japanese RPGs. It's not uncommon for games to present unlockable content as an incentive for players to keep on playing, but we're pretty sure that short stories are a first. Fret not if reading isn't your thing, as Multiplayer also takes a look at the rest of the game. You can hit the "read" link to check out the whole preview, or you can let us save you some time: if you like Final Fantasy, it sounds like you'll like Lost Odyssey. Just get ready for a lot of loading.

LOL...
I've been looking forward to this game for a long time now. Couple that with I like RPG's, I like JRPGs, and I love to read, and my enthusiasm continues to grow.

YES! That's what I thought when I read that. Never heard a story summary until now.

I think Microsoft published both Mistwalker next gen games so I think the chances are pretty slim.

Obviously you didn't get the sarcasm that was screaming from my last post. The Simpsons reference at the end didn't clue you into it being a joke. For that sir I'm starting to question your inteligence.
Didn't this game do poorly in Japan? So it seems that the Japanese don't like to read their games either.

I'm looking forward to this game, actually. The short stories sound interesting and I like the traditional JRPG style.
The only thing I'm worried about are the reports of ridiculous load times for encounters and such. Those can easily kill a game experience.

Sounds like another Blue Dragon snoozefest. This is what happens when you get a bunch of creative people in there without a leash. They need someone to tighten up the story and gameplay. 2 hours of play before a non-tutorial fight? That is insane.

Only a snoozefest for people with attention spans of 3 seconds. (rolling eyes)

Blue Dragon had short stories, too. Reading those books with the short stories divided into clumps.

NOT TROLLING, but can I buy this for PS3 on a single Bluray disc? I have my consoles set up such that it's a bit of a pain to swap, especially with where my 360 sits (or sat -- last I saw of it was in a casket heading to MS Central for a RRoD repair).
For a single player game, I honestly don't care whether I get it for PS3 or 360, since I don't keep up with my gamerscore that well and both consoles tend to see the same DLC, if there is any.
