Nintendo's three GDC sessions: Wii Fit, Wii menu, and Brawl character library
For anyone headed off to GDC next month – or for those of you bashing the Reload button at home – you may want to pencil in some or all of these Nintendo sessions to your no doubt already busy schedule. First up is "Wii Fit: Creating a Brand New Interface for the Home Console" presented by project lead Takao Sawano; second up is "Planning the Wii Menu: From Pre-Launch to WiiWare" presented by team leader for Nintendo's Network Group, Takashi Aoyama; last up is "Building Characters: The Super Smash Bros. Brawl Postmortem," a postmortem for the recently delayed game, presented by developer Masahiro Sakurai. While you can bet we'll be at the Wii Fit and SSBB sessions, we're not sure how interested we are in experiencing the Wii UI if we're not clumsily trying to find something while being auditorily assaulted by the shopping channel's hypnotic jingle. Oh, who are we kidding? We'll go anywhere that jingle tells us to go, like compliant rats lined up behind Nintendo's pied piper.

And the piper will lead us to reason.
samfish @ Jan 15th 2008 5:34PM
Sakurai will be both booed and cheered loudly at this point.

SSBB sessions FTW.
If Megaman/ Bomberman/ Master chief are/is revealed the delay was totally worth it, hell I would wait 'til April for Megaman.
Victor @ Jan 15th 2008 6:00PM

colin @ Jan 15th 2008 9:48PM

ms has enough characters to do a smb equivalent. Master chief, all kameo characters, banjo/kazooie, gears of war, crackdown characters, lost planet dude, conker, brute force lol, dead rising guy, arbiter, grunts, etc.

I'm personally hoping for Alucard/Simon from Castlevania to make an appearance.
Mr Khan @ Jan 15th 2008 5:39PM
That jingle always makes me jump, you sit there, waiting for it to connect, its all quiet, then the music comes out of nowhere and hits you like a sack of bricks
This content should be more fitting for GDC than Miyamoto's keynote was last year. More about the actual development instead of a soapbox for corporate promotion (although Harrison was also guilty of that)

My predictions: Snake and Sonic are announced to be excluded from the lineup, hence the delay.
Sakurai fails to leave the building alive.
jackbauer @ Jan 15th 2008 6:17PM
Wii balance board functionality for brawl.
Hence, the longer delay for North America
Benjamin Breeg @ Jan 15th 2008 6:24PM
Brawl will already be out in Japan when this keynote takes place, and if we make an attempt to look, we'll easily be able to find the whole roster.
So we're not gonna get anything new, it actually seems like just a chance to advertise the game even more. That, or he'll discuss the development of the game and the difficulties of balancing it and what not.
Count Noobula @ Jan 15th 2008 6:27PM
Simon Belmont better be announced in the Brawl lineup.
wiiluver135 @ Jan 15th 2008 6:35PM
I don't even want to see Sakurai's face anymore...
A Pissed-off English Gamer @ Jan 15th 2008 6:41PM
Sorry to ask, but why is it called a "postmortem" for Brawl? Kind of implies it's dead.
Mr Khan @ Jan 15th 2008 7:07PM
It's a developer term for after a game goes gold. I presume that it is derived from the fact that the game is "dead" because there is nothing they can do to alter it at that point, (granted, there's always patches, but you get the point) all they can do is examine the body
thus; post-mortem
