Personally Iam enjoying the game greatly. It is light hearted fun and while it is stereotypical RPG in many ways the minigames break it up well.

You can practice the mini games by the way, access them from the menu at any time on while traveling. Also there is no game over in Ape Quest so I am unsure where you got that idea. If you get returned to a town after defeat then just warp to the nearest town (also from the menu page, under bank).

It rather sounds like the reviewer skipped over the tutorial pages, which is common place now days but without a paper manual is not suggested here.

This is a game which is going to be appreciated by older RPG players more than the Morrowind generation mind you. It uses some older constructs as part of the portability. So if you still play games like the older Ultimas or Final Fantasy 1-6 you will probably find a lof in the gameplay to appreciate. Being able to start and stop playing with short notice is great for the subway enroute from work.

One of the few games I don't regret purchasing for my PSP in the last 6 months of over hyped titles. The free starter pack includes a playable demo, so I would suggest giving it a chance. Don't enjoy it and no harm no foul.

I'd give it a 7.5/10 easy.

I agree fully with this review. I bough the whole game, as I enjoyed the style of the demo, but the overall game does little to expand on the initial parts. Everything seems so mashed together, and the endlessly similiar bad guys just makes it feel shallow and repetative. Some of the boss fights are decent, but even those (other than a couple) are way too easy. You may have wanted to mention that you can easily beat all 3 chapters in about 10 hours, INCLUDING the small bonus area that opens up after the ending. It wouldn't have been too bad a deal for $10 or if they would have added an ad-hoc mode for two players to play the mini-games against each other...
