Rumor: Hudson working on New Duck Hunt for Wii?
Could Hudson Soft be working on an update to the classic Duck Hunt for Nintendo Wii? That all depends on how much faith you put into shaky cam footage, and loosely-woven stories of dad's carelessness with company property.
The story goes that the boy's father works at Hudson Soft, and that the father left an unmarked disc on his desk, which the son soon discovered was an early build of New Duck Hunt for the Wii. The footage up on GameTrailers shows what looks like a 2.5D version of the original game, complete with NES sound effects, the original music, and that damn dog.
We have a hard time believing this to be true, especially since the video's off-camera star could have basically guaranteed his father's termination the moment he uploaded this to the internets. Check out the blurry, shaky, job-threatening footage after the break.
Update: Apparently the video's not DestinRL's, but rather one he found somewhere else on the internet. News updated accordingly.

I believe it. You would not imagine how dumb some kids can be. He probably too dumb to realize his dad will get fired because of this. Soooooomebody's gonna get a hurt real bad!
ThornedVenom @ Jan 15th 2008 5:38AM
For the Russell Peters theory to be true, we have to confirm that the uploader isn't a white kid.

Yes you may call child welfare, and I may get in trouble. But one thing you forgot is that I know it will take them 23 minutes to get here. And in that time: Someone gonna get a hurt REAL BAD.

You got to jail now bad boy!

Wouldn't an early build like that only work on a dev unit. Because I highly doubt that they are using a dev unit in the video.

no way it's real; the kid's acting like he's surprised to see the dog laugh on camera as if he's never played this 'disc' before videotaping it..
duck hunt is a simple game and anyone with a couple hours and some basic animation skills could pull that off

I agree. If Nintendo were to farm out this classic first-party game, it would be fleshed out. Not some simple-flash-looking app.

Never played a Warioware game have you?
bm @ Jan 15th 2008 2:16PM
Actually, Warioware games, in their simplicity, look much more professional than this horrible piece of shit, in every way. I can't believe that anyone would think for one second that this is real.

I declare it fake: the crosshairs seem too scripted. It would have been more convincing if he had including the wiimote in the shot.
It'd be common sense to include it, just to prove that it's directly controlled instead of script-animated. Well, if he REALLY wanted to convince people how real it is.
(Actually, you do see an almost inert wiimote towards the middle of the video, but only when the screen is out of focus to hide the crosshair: great illusion for authenticity.)

Um, you can see the Wii remote at several points between the 1/3 and 1/2 mark in the movie.
s256 @ Jan 15th 2008 5:10PM
The hand holding the remote doesn't press the trigger or A button when there's a shot.

thats eems like something anyone with some knowledge of flash could make in a day.

Look at the inside back cover of Edge this month (Issue 184)...
Joel Rose @ Jan 15th 2008 10:20AM
I'm sure this is some college student's 3d animation project that he rendered, added the classic sound effects, burned to disk and played on his TV.

Seriously, if it's real or fake, (prob. fake from comments above) can people afford tripods?? i mean, there's no reason why stuff should be shaky, especially at home. c'mon....
Chainblast @ Jan 15th 2008 11:14AM
The NES Zapper does a much better job of simulating a firearm than the Wii-mote does. Because of this a better version of Duck Hunt is not at all possible. End of story.
Roto13 @ Jan 15th 2008 11:38AM
I doubt Nintendo would update Duck Hunt only to make it look so completely awful.
Michael Rejman @ Jan 15th 2008 12:40PM
Regardless of whether this is fake or not, don't you think it's just a matter of time before Nintendo comes out with this game (hopefully with a Zapper-like hunk of plastic)? Maybe a second go at a pack in game (third actually.... Wii Play, Link's Crossbow Training, Duck Hunt.....). The Wii has the perfect interface for this classic game, and it would be awesome to have a chance to go at it again.
Personally I think the video is a fake and is pre-rendered like most of the comments here are saying. The dog always pops up in the middle of the screen no matter where the duck falls and judging from where the cursor is in relation to the duck on the screen, either we've got yet another case of somebody who really sucks at video games playing a pre-release, or it's just a video with the cursor moving around and firing at random. Come on! He misses half of them and he's only standing about six to eight feet from the screen. And when the cursor is on the other side of the screen from the target he fires. That just doesn't make sense. It's a hoax.
