Rumorang: Duke Nukem on XBLA in 'next several months'
After six long years, the team at 3D Realms finally broke their silence last month, showing off a short – and by many opinions, disappointing – teaser for Duke Nukem Forever. Though we're all well aware DNF isn't close to being released, rumor has it (again and again) that Duke Nukem 3D will resurrect the franchise on Xbox Live Arcade so the title's core audience, who were parking their bricks in a pair of Pull-Ons ten years ago, can learn what The Duke is all about. Here's the details: sources close to developer 3D Realms told IGN that DN3D is scheduled to appear on Xbox Live Arcade "within the next several months" featuring four-player online co-op and eight-player online deathmatch. If true, this would be the first 3D Realms-developed game to ship since ... well, the original Duke Nukem 3D in 1996. Okay, there was also the strangely offensive Shadow Warrior in 1997, but we'd just as soon like to forget about that ...

Didn't 3DRealms do Prey?
Crono (NDF - Knight of the Old School) @ Jan 15th 2008 1:58PM
I think so. I know Prey was originally their property, back when it was going to be a "quake killer".
NATO_Duke @ Jan 15th 2008 2:20PM
They were the producer of Prey.
Tiptup300 @ Jan 15th 2008 3:19PM
Life just got a little bit better. Me and my friends played duke 64 for HOURS on end.
Abscissa @ Jan 16th 2008 5:57AM
3D Realms *had* worked on earlier versions of Prey themselves, but the version of Prey that was actually finished and released was completely rebuilt by different studio with 3D Realms just overseeing.

You no forget about Lo Wang!
zuburi @ Jan 15th 2008 5:37PM
WHOOOO WANTA SUM WANG?!??

"... in the next several months..." That is the part that scares me.
Obie @ Jan 15th 2008 1:58PM
"I have come to chew bubblegum and kick ass...and I'm all out of bubblegum."
Give it lag free XBL deathmatch, and hell why not.
Crono (NDF - Knight of the Old School) @ Jan 15th 2008 2:01PM
I didn't know Duke Nukem was in "They Live".
Obie @ Jan 15th 2008 2:05PM
Yeah Duke stole a lot of one liners, including the "bubble gum" line from "They Live", and a bunch from the "Evil Dead" movies.
ScottyGEE32 @ Jan 15th 2008 6:46PM
Isn't it: "It's time to kick ass and chew bubble gum. And I'm all outta gum"?
DemonGSides @ Jan 15th 2008 11:14PM
For Duke it was just "I'm here to kick ass and chew some gum...
But I"m all outta Gum."
Then you'd proceed to go immediatly towards the close wall, open a panel, get the Devastator, jump off the building, kill a few grunts, then take a few Chaingun Lizard men, jump into the water, kill a few Octo-brains, jump out, go up the ramp, jump over a wall, kill another Lizard man, pipe bomb a crack, get some stuff outta that, jump out, and go inside.
I could probably do the entire level from memory, but hell, i don't want to bore you guys ;)
baby sea tuna @ Jan 15th 2008 2:01PM
This has aged about as well as Goldeneye, I'm sure. Also, I'm no longer 13. Not interested.
Geist @ Jan 15th 2008 4:46PM
But...but...but you get to give money to hookers and dancers! That's the pinnacle of art right there.
Hashbrown_Hunter @ Jan 16th 2008 12:50AM
Roger Ebert would be proud.
Chase @ Jan 15th 2008 2:19PM
I'll get it if they release a version where I get to play as Bruce Campbell. It would only be fitting.
Crono (NDF - Knight of the Old School) @ Jan 15th 2008 2:29PM
BEST AVATAR EVER!

elpmis @ Jan 15th 2008 2:50PM
What's taking so freaking long? You can't treat your fanbase like that - we should ignore Duke Nukem 3D and Forever (if it ever comes out) to teach 3D Realms a lesson.
Crono (NDF - Knight of the Old School) @ Jan 15th 2008 3:05PM
I might actually pick up Duke3D on XBLA. I had alot of fun with its multiplayer back in the day.
CDN Crockett @ Jan 15th 2008 3:21PM
I used to game my brain's out over dial up back in the day!

Define "several"

Wake me up when Goldeneye gets pulled out of production hell. =C
DarkTetsuya @ Jan 15th 2008 4:17PM
I'm sure this game'll get delayed until Kingdom Come, just like that other game they're supposedly "working on" (Oh they have time to develop and publish other games like Prey, but DNF will be 'ready when it's done'?)
Richard Mitchell @ Jan 15th 2008 4:26PM
Oh come on, Chris! Shadow Warrior was awesome.
NvM @ Jan 15th 2008 5:09PM
Depends on how much it is.
If it's any more than 8 bucks though, I'm not game.
please @ Jan 15th 2008 10:04PM
will it be as smooth as when i had 28k modem?
Angelo @ Jan 16th 2008 2:45AM
Didn't they have something to do with Max Payne too?
Abscissa @ Jan 16th 2008 5:59AM
They produced Max Payne, but Remedy developed it.
Lex-Man @ Jan 16th 2008 8:38AM
Apparently 3D realms have become an un necessary third party in gaming making rather than actually make any new games themselves (some guy at rockstar said that).
Abscissa @ Jan 16th 2008 5:57AM
Umm, Shadow Warrior was awesome.
Evan @ Jan 16th 2008 8:50AM
Duke Nukem 3D was my favorite game at the time. Was it really 10 years ago? I feel old! Where did the last 10 years go?
Grammar freak @ Jan 16th 2008 10:37AM
Duke3D and Shadow Warrior (and also that other BUILD-Engine game Blood) had some of the coolest weapons in FPS history. Shrink ray, ice gun, etc. Will be very fun to play those again. Shadow warrior had the first sword in FPS history I believe (although TES:Arena and Daggerfall probably came out first). If I was of Asian heritage, I'd probably hate Shadow Warrior though.
TheWarden @ Jan 16th 2008 11:55AM
Shadow Warrior was the BEST. It had the mini-nuke! You had to get soooo far away to survive the blast.
