Super Smash Bros. Brawl delayed until March 9th

Super Smash Bros. Brawl just wasn't done breaking hearts. After the crushing disappointment of having our $19.98 preorders canceled, Nintendo's latest news is a kick while we're down. And not a fun in-game kick, from Yoshi or something. The regular kind.

The rumors were true. Nintendo of America has announced that Brawl is delayed until March 9th. The official reason? "Development is taking slightly longer than expected." We're just going to assume that the real reason is that Nintendo's taking the time to add (character you want). The Japanese release has been delayed, as well, until the 31st of this month. Masahiro Sakurai has apologized for the delay on the Dojo site.

For those of you who are counting, this is the second delay for this game. Once upon a time, we thought we were going to be Brawling online as soon as December 3rd. It's now ... considerably later than that, is what it is.

I think they should add earthjim, boogerman, king k rool lanky kong bomberman,megaman chrono trigger pacman,chunky kong shadow the hedge hog tails dixie kong rayman mallow geno midna cloud and more items stages and modes that would be cool

since they are taking an extra long on making ssbb they should make a loading screen for ssbm data so if you've beaten ssbm or unlocked some things on ssbm you could get some of your stages characters in right off the bat or get some special stickers that gives you an ability or does something cool

I think if they are taking such a long time than maybe just maybe they are trying to make your home made mii a playable character that would be really cool cause if you could play your own mii against the world on line or off line that would be verry cool

it sucks all because people wanted sonic and i think lucario(pokemon).On the dojo site ever since the japan release they said that they are posting all the good stuff but japan videos are spoiling it for us in america,canada,europe,etc.But I dont care about the spoilers I care about the dan game being delayed,but I do want sonic in it but they have problems finishing the english game i think but I dont know(I could go all day typing this but im not)

Release a fucking demo! GODDAMMIT!!! >:-(

I am so glad there is 36 characters in ssbb if you count shiek as another character separate from zelda and I'm kinda sad that they did not add more characters for the game but in a way I sorta happy they did not go and add any more characters cause that would not leave very many good new characters for the next game that is all for now

god damn it nintendo...

At least that pikmin stage "Distant Planet" is amazing.

I'm all about Nintendo's "A great game later is better then a bad game now" theory and all but this just sucks.

At this rate we'll be playing Brawl for the first time while Grandpa is carving the Thanksgiving turkey.

Take as long as you want, Nintendo (or Pal Lab, or whoever). I am ready to wait. As a third installment, Smash Brawl has a lot to live up to. If the game has glitches or faults, I don't want it, yet.

Make it perfect and sell me a game worth $50.

But anyway, darn delay what could be causing it, online server capacity issues, characters, localization, gosh i just dont know.

The delusional fanboy in me says it's support for downloading online content like characters and stages. Maybe it's so they can put smash on the vc a few weeks ahead of time to make more money off of it.

I hope they don't have downloadable levels and stuff. My hard drive is full.

I hope there isnt more downloadable content then the daily sending of levels.

Yea. I can wait it sucks. But maybe it has something to do with wiiware and external hard-drive support. There was a feature that was burred out that the smash creator had hoped to put in. Well hopefully that can be added.
I just hope people can take it. I don't mind in the gaming world it means that in the end smash will be amazing. But hey if mega man is in it let's say then that's even better and maybe 50 charcters for a total roster then hey the game will be amazing as well as no glitches then 50 dollars will be well spent.

No No. The reason for releasing No More Heroes early was SSBB.
Now that it is delayed the release date will go back to early Feb.

Japan gets it at the end of the month, and we get it in March?!?! Why do you hate us Nintendo? First the Wii Demos channel, and now this...

Tell you what Nintendo, give us the Demo channel, and then a playable demo of Brawl next week to make it up to us, mmkay?

actually, they have a ds demo chanel to connect to your ds, not wii demos. the wii doesn't have enough space for wii demos.
Anyway, i think the wait is worth it. if it means adding other characters, then i'd be much obliged. if it were sony or microsoft though i'd be pissed right now and just give us update through online but the problem is the wii doesn't have downloads for wii, not even wii ware will be able to patch a game. the next console better be one with a hard drive or i won't buy it.

Well, to be fair, Nintendo said a long time ago that Twilight Princess, Metroid Prime 3, and Smash Bros Brawl would all be out on Wii launch day.

Then we got the official launch day games list, and no Brawl, or Metroid. Later, we got Brawl's release date of not 2008, but December 3rd, 2007. Then Nintendo made a liar out of Reggie, as it was indeed pushed back to February 10th, 2008. So it's actually the 3rd delay, though the shortest of all 3.

I just hope we don't get another delay, in a month, and then another, until it's Nintendo's flagship holiday 2008 title.

Also, it kinda sucks the delay was for no apparent reason, other than either anticipated shortages or translating issues. Its not to add more content and fine tune it, you can't do that in 7 days, its to allow for more discs when it actually launches. And then probably a mixture of both that, and there being a lot of text to translate.

I liked December 3rd, it was the week before my winter vacation starts. February 10th was alright, though it was a month into Spring semester. Now March 9th, appears to be either right before or hopefully right after midterms.

They never said Brawl would be out on launch day. Sakurai said that he would LIKE to have it be a launch title, is all.

exactly. No More Heroes will at least keep me busy. Just bought Zack & Wiki today so I am excited. But.... Nintendo heard us... They are adding a mic support for this game arent they? I knew it.. I LOVE YOU NINTENDO!!!!!!!!

Nah, Nintendo are oblivious to our wants, it's more about what they want to give us that counts sadly.

I guess we can always hope for a chat channel further down the line so the already released online games can still benefit from a headset.

The more Smash Bros get's pushed back, the less likely I see MarioKart Wii arriving any time in Q2(as scheduled), two Nintendo first party AAA titles within months of each other, no chance.

3 months isn't that big a delay, its worth it

I think the real reason may be so the the EU release date is closer to the US one....
But i can only hope they add some sort of new feature; like voice chat, hard drive/download-able content or scrap friend codes......well maybe in a perfect Brawl world...

This is pretty lame, but atleast I will be able to afford it then since there are a few great games coming out the next two weeks or so.

I wanna believe that the reason the delayed it is because Nintendo is about to release a Wii mic and that they will announce SSB:B will support voice chat.... but alas that probably isn't the case. I'll just have to private chat over my 360 with the few friends I know who have a Wii.

Sure waiting an extra month sucks. My birthday is Feb 5th,SSBB was going to be a bday gift to myself. Now I am getting NMH!!!!

I highly doubt that they're going to add another character this late into the development. (It's only another month.) My guess is that there's some show stopping glitch that they're trying to iron out.

Heh. So, what happens to the order people made online (i.e. Amazon)? Are we plain S.O.L or will they give us refunds?

I'm fairly certain they only charge you when they ship. So you can cancel the order whenever you want.

I kind of hate/like this delay. I'll be getting Brawl a week prior to Spring Break; w00t. :D

Then I'm glad I pre-ordered yesterday...or not.

This makes me SOOOO ANGRY!!!!!!!! I had a release party planned and everything!!! This is freaking bullcrap. I've been counting down the number of days, and that number keeps increasing. That's not how a countDOWN usually works.

I'm only half disappointed. Christmas pretty much wiped out my video games budget until March anyway. On the downside, all of my friends who have Wiis are not in the same predicament and this means I won't be over at their house playing Brawl on the 10th.

This delay better bring 2 things: A universal Mii character and frickin' voice chat.
