Worms: A Space Oddity for Wii will not include online multiplayer like developer Team17 had previously announced. ShackNews confirmed the info with THQ and the publisher put some great spin on the situation saying, "Worms: A Space Oddity is a social gaming experience that is best enjoyed locally, in a party-game atmosphere with other players."
Take that online-enabled Worms Open Warfare 2 on DS and PSP! Hey, Worms on XBLA -- online play is so last-gen! So go find yourself some real life friends and enjoy Worms: A Space Oddity on Wii in March.

They can't tell ME how to enjoy MY worms! Perhaps I just won't enjoy it on the Wii at all. See how they like that. Good. Fine. Works out for everyone.

I said that because Wii games require silly movements and unreasonable motions and apparently people want to do it with friends (Via Online), my solution is as follows: GO OUTSIDE
...and it's 12:30 AM where I live so I'll write on these "forums"/this blog...
Thx, K, BAI.

They require things that seem silly and unreasonable to -you-. Although I don't want to know what else you find silly and unreasonable. To the rest of us (all 15 million) these things add something of value.

Idea of the year:
Team17 should make a 2D, Flash-based, ad-supported but free-to-play Worms with online play with up to 4 people able to play on the same computer.

Wow, this is right up there with the Hindenburg disaster, except Wii Worms is already in flames well before takeoff.

This setback and the Brawl delay to near my birthday has been repaid ten-fold because Famistu rated Brawl 40/40:

How did they rate the game if it's not completed yet? Why did they have to delay the game 1 week then(1 month U.S.), did they forget to put up a title screen or something? Surely the testing phase for Japan is over. This brings me to believe that they delayed the game just for shits and giggles.

Why am I not suprised. Worms is the perfect game to support multiplayer too, and AFAIK no console version has done so yet.
When will the freaking Wii get with the times enter the age of the Internet?!? This console can be so pathetic some times...

Who's to blame...Team17's incompetence or inability to meet a deadline with multiplayer intact, or the Wii's difficulty to establish an easy to implement platform for online play?
You can bet your ass that if this game was on the PC Team17 would have no problem implementing online play...

How many consoles do we have to buy before developers decide to start shipping complete games?

that's just it - it's not how many consoles we buy that will get through to them, it's how many copies of their games we don't buy that will.

DUH, of course it's always best to multiplayer in the same room. But some players have no friends.

Hey, lots of us have friends who live thousands of miles away who we love to game with on our Xbox 360s or PS3s. We'd love to be able to do the same on our Wiis, too. Back off. Just because someone wants to play online doesn't mean they "have no friends." Jerk.

Who're you calling a jerk? It's not because the online component is appealing to a person with no friends that it directly implies that a person who likes, wants or plays online has no friends.
You fail at logic, jerk.

Go back and read what you wrote again. On second thought, here:
"DUH, of course it's always best to multiplayer in the same room. But some players have no friends."
The use of "but" suggests that if you can't play local multiplayer, it must be because you have no friends. You fail at grammar.

It means what it means: that some people don't have friends, and therefore have to rely on the online component for the multiplayer experience.
=> "The use of "but" suggests that if you can't play local multiplayer, it must be because you have no friends."
That's exactly what I meant: if you had friends to play with locally, then you wouldn't be friendless, right? The problem is that YOU don't even remember what you're arguing about in the first place, so let me remind you it for you.
You thought that my statement said that those who seeked an online experience meant that they had no friends, whereas I said that those who had no friends seeked an online experience. It doesn't work both ways.
You fail at arguing your point. But in any case, I don't honestly think that I'm going to convince you any further because you know what they say about arguing on the internet... but still, calling me a jerk in the first place wasn't necessary, Dirk.

I can't throw a party everytime I want to play Wii Worms... and Worms Singleplayer has always been crap in general. So online play fills a gap between the parties. You can play against other people while having no pants on. That's why I love Open Warfare 2 on my DS.

Wow, I didn't realize this many people liked Worms. Personally, I've never played any of them, but if I wanted to, I'd probably just pick up the one on XBLA.

Well, it could be worse. They could have announced an Atonement game with Carrot Top as Keira Knightley and a ground-breaking, expanse multiplayer mode.

Worms has been awful since World Party. The one on XBLA is an absolute disgrace. The physics are just....horrific. WWP was the game in the series that did absolutely everything right, and I don't know what on Earth they were thinking with the more recent incarnations.

It's funny how WWP for the Dreamcast had online multiplayer (It was flawed, but none the less; we're talking 1.5 generations before the Wii). I guess I'll clean my DC and give it a spin just for the sake of old times.

Nintendo seems to be afraid to put online multiplayer into games. What's the point of having internet capabilities if the vast majority of games aren't going to use it?

We know it's not Team 17's fault: they have had online multiplayer in their games for literally a decade now.
