Microsoft needs to get a deal with Netflix to get their streaming stuff on the 360 for netflix members. Then it will be game over. I already pay to rent movies, I refuse to pay more.

Another box is the Archos TV+, it's more open then ether the Xbox 360 or Apple TV:
http://www.archos.com/products/gen_5/archos_tv/index.html?country=us&lang=en

I'm glad to see more competition in this field, hopefully this will be good for us consumers as better boxes and services arrive on the scene.

The XBOX 360 with the 20G HD is only 269.99 right now on Amazon. So for $40 extra dollars you can play a wide selection of games, view your shared pictures, videos, etc., For $14.99/mo with the 360 you can also stream your entire * downloaded * catalog of songs available from the Zune pass subscription as well as your personal media (.mp3, .wma collection). Apple doesn't have anything that touches that.

Actually, the AppleTV does those things and more. You should probably research it a little bit before you start in with the hating.
Pictures & Video - You can stream all of your pictures from your computer, as well as all your Videos. It also does YouTube on your TV.
Music - AppleTV streams up to 36,000 songs from your iTunes library- so that's anything you purchased, downloaded, ripped from a CD, or made yourself. And you don't have to pay $15/month for that.

You, my friend, are dumb and illiterate. Apple TV has photos AND Flickr, Xbox has no Flickr, Xbox sucks. Apple TV has 40 Gb for $229, so Xbox sucks there. You can buy music from Apple TV, Xbox only streams from PC, Xbox sucks there. Xbox only has 312 films that cost more to rent and NO TV shows, did I mention Xbox sucks? Apple TV showcases your personal collection too.

Zune Pass is not required for music streaming. you can stream, any MP3, AAC, or WMA files... or rip them directly to the HDD, or play them off an external MP3 player or iPod. Video can be streamed in a variety of formats, and this service extends even further if you have a Media center PC and Vongo. Not to mention it has PLENTY of TV shows.. including HD TV shows.. and Uncensored South Park.

It's DivX not DiVX

- Concerned DivX Employee :D

P.S. Spellcheck is saying DivX is incorrect while DiVX is correct. Awkward.

You're missing Ultimate Fighting Championship in the Studio Support section. Xbox Live is the only place I know of to see UFC fights in HD... well except for PPV.

You forgot to mention that the 360 sounds like a 747 in your bedroom. The sole reason we got the AppleTV was because we could watch a movie in silence as opposed to the racket the 360 puts out (and had even bought Connect360 for OS X - a fine program that fakes the 360 into thinking your Mac is Windows Media Connect compliant.

Apple Fanboys wrong again!

The zune pass is for unlimited song downloads that you HAVENT paid for. Its free to stream pictures, audio and Divx to the xbox from your pc.

The xbox has HEAPS of TV shows to buy.

The Apple tv cant stream Divx, play DVDs or play anything of USB. Anyone claiming its feature compelte is delusional.

Meh. Honestly all of this digital distribution stuff sounds like a rip off compared to good old Netflix by mail. For the cost of three digital rentals I can have two movies out at a time per month. With enough free time you could easily burn through upwards of ten films a month.

You know.. i always hate seeing Theoretical beating actual. You compare XBLM's current movie count, to iTune's promised count 3 months away. Add to that, the fact that, in terms of File size, iTunes tends to suk. I mean, how do you know how big the movie files are? They aren't even posted online! On top of that.... Video quality from iTunes is even worse. I can rip a movie at iPhone preset on hand brake... and get a smaller, better looking movie file then the one i'd BUY on iTunes.

Oh, and you say they don't have Fox on XBLM, yet i an download Family Guy on Xbox...

Hmmm... I think the fact that I can play movies rented or purchased from Amazon Unbox on my Xbox should count for something.

I don't think iTunes is ever gonna support that, and Unbox sometimes has 99 cent movie rental deals, as well as free TV show download promotions.

Amazon 360 FTW!

xbird: You don't have clue about the 360.

What do you mean by the Xbox only "streams" you mean from the service? Your wrong. You can dload just like Crapple, as well as store your music locally if you want. Streaming music/pics/vids (including DivX) from the PC is a bonus. It also plays content from a USB device (hard drive or flash memory), if that's the way you roll.

So what it boils down to is that Apple TV has YouTube and Flickr, and the Xbox has 3rd party content provider support, as well as... hmmm... Mass Effect, Rock Band, Orange Box and Bioshock.

But I'm sure that Apple TV's eventual games selection is just gonna KICK BUTT.

have fun.

Size of the download is a direct reflection on the compression ratio used, so while the live downloads are larger (taking more time) the quality of the films is actually better because of it.
