Self-described campaigner for independent titles and apologetic speech crasher, Gamecock Media Group, has detailed plans for its second annual and awkwardly worded Expo For Interactive Entertainment, Independent and Original. This year's E.I.E.I.O. is scheduled to take place on March 6 at the prestigious Stubb's Bar-B-Q in Austin, Texas. Gamecock's upcoming lineup will be on show and in the company of developers, "music, mayhem and good ol' fashioned Texas hospitality."
The all-day event will lead into South by Southwest's (SXSW) Interactive Festival and culminate in a concert which hopes to feature "bands with members of the gaming press in them." Umm, does Rock Band count?

Beat me to it. I was going to say, "Who's the conference director, Old McDonald?"

I'd be wary of that "good ol' fashioned Texas hospitality." You might wind up being dragged by a rope from the back of a pickup truck.

It's offensive to me that this kind of thing still happens in the south. :P

If by "this kind of thing" you are referring to bigotry being carried out to violent extremes, well, welcome to THE WORLD. It's unfortunate, but it happens everywhere.
As someone who has lived in the south and the midwest of the US, I can testify to the fact that bigotry isn't limited to the South. It is narrow-minded as to presume (incorrectly) and suggest that such behavior typifies the people of the Southern US; ignorantly and willfully buying into such a stereotype is a fine example of just the sort of bigotry that you seem to be lamenting.

Obviously I'm not so dense that I think that all violent racism / bigotry happens in the Southern U.S., and nowhere else in the world... But I am not a bigot because I know the history of the U.S. and am not afraid to make reference to it.

By that logic, then I should treat all Germans as though they are antisemitic, all Americans as genocidal maniacs (Native Americans), and all African Americans as slaves... because, you know, that IS their history and everything, so it is TOTALLY cool if I "make reference to it."
Why am I even arguing with someone so ignorant?

Thanks for the history lesson Delgado. In the future, I'll try to remember that mentioning the south's racist past is ignorant. I will also do my best to forget the entire slavery thing, since bad things like that are best forgotten about... right?

I've already RSVPd for the show. As for the dragging behind in a pickup truck. Why not go farther back and say burying in the dirt up to your head for the coyotes to eat. Or being pulled in 4 directions by horses. Austin is pretty liberal (in the sense of Texas) which really just makes it a moderate area. But it is a fun place. You really get the truck pulling thing out in East Texas or farther anyway.
Besides if you wanted to go legitimate offensive then you should go with sniping from the UT tower.
