In my opinion, mindless action can still make good movies, good entertainment. Though that would be it, entertaining.

And.....Halo isn't Master Chief, to simple fanboys maybe, but to me Master Chief is simply a tool of humanity, a weapon. Whenever a 'fan' says Master Chief IS Halo it just seems stupid. (i know you've said you're not a halo fan)

But heh, there is only Bungie to blame for making the MC the only noticable character for fans of the games, them and their way of showing the games from the perspective of one soldier.

As I mentioned in a previous post, I think two or three simultaneous storylines would be the best way, then we can have MC in a lead role, as well as some other characters. Everyone is happy.

2 Words. Darth Vader. Though he was also a supporting character... I suggest they get David Prowse to play Master Chief. Perfect size and proven emtional character even with mask. Just need to find another fabulous voice actor. Even R2D2 could supply emotion. I don't know what the problem is here...

The problem is people that think Master Chief should display emotion at all! He's a cybornectic unemotional warrior. People are always emotionally attached to unemotional characters. That's why there's so much affinity for the chief!

Vader had tons of emotional backstory!
Getting the same dude, would be totally unnecessary!

The Chief shows remorse for every ally that dies around him. He often thinks of deeper emotional thoughts, but holds themback due to his selfless nature and the whole thing with being constantly bombarded with plasma.

Again, Bungie fails to get much story across in the games, unfortunatly.

Wow, did you just call Alien a stupid movie?
Did you know that was just recently picked to be the best sci fi movie of all time?

Nah, Alien wasn't crap at all, in fact it has the one thing Halo doesnt have, scare factor. lol. I only meant the fact that the woman defeated all aliens up to alien 4 pretty much single handedly. But I'll cut it out, because at least the aliens look worth shooting at, lol.

Thats another problem with Halo, the aliens would seem cheezy in a movie, I like aliens that look like they are going to destroy us, not ones that are trying their best to. Halo reminds me too much of Star Wars, Vadar and MC, aliens speaking english and prophecies and floating space objects like rings and orbs or death, light sabers, lmao, they are so alike its embarrassing. All Halo needs now is to baffle its veiwers and none Halo fans in talk about Jedis and childlings and whatnot and whallah, there you have it, a geek convention, there was Star Trek, then Star wars not Star Halo :)

No, but seriously MC should appear in it, but just to help out, what they could do is create the idea of his legacy, the story could be about a regular soldier, and he hears so much about this MC, but has never actually seen him, when all but hope is left, thats when MC makes an appearance, and like Halo 3, raises the hope and aspiration to fight to the death by the soldiers. Maybe end the story with a tradegy, happy endings are gay. I wouldn't mind Cortana appearing in it and communicating to the high officers, or they could just add a completely new Cortana lookalike that communicates with the famous Cortana. The to finish it off, add the drama, the death of friends, the leaving of families, and the president making a speech about how we must all stop being racist etc to each other, and fight back against the covanent, oh, and somewhere in the middle of the movie or trilogy if its anything like LOTR, they could throw in the flood to actually be the scare factor Halo is missing, much like the sub plots in LOTR with the Balrog and giant spider. There you have it, a simple but potential oscar winner, now just to touch up on it :)

Oh manm, i'd love some horror element to a Halo movie, would be easily done with a lone stranded human, not even a soldier, but a technician, in a flood-infested ship with only a couple of Flood combat forms.

This comment is so low down that it will never see the light of day, but.

To make a good Halo movie you need to properly capture the relationship between the chief and Cortana. That was a major part of the trilogy, and I personally became emotionally attached to Cortana.

I would also like to see a focus on Miranda Keyes, although introduced late, her character was very well executed in Halo 3, and could be a major character in a film, depending on when/where it is set.

I think the chief should be a major character, but the films could be very well executed without him being the sole character on the screen as there are many characters in the games, and universe capable of having a major role.

there were nice tricks to give the illusion Cortana was an emotional AI. also her and the Chief did make a great duo: the chatterbox and silent giant type.

but do you seriously think that the mass market will give a damn in 2 hours, unless they had played the games?

the movie needs a "Saving Private Ryan" status, with Cortana as the glue, a Keyes character( Miranda or her father) as the Main character and Chief riding Rocket-shotgun.

Cortana will fit right in with the movie, she is not the killer, just the helper, she could help out. The same way we have no idea who MC is, is the same way they should keep it for the movie, make him a legend, if he appears too much it becomes crap. Make him seem the Batman of all this, the mysterious, legend. Many have heard of him, few have seen him type.

The spotting of the MC should be like the spotting of Loch Ness. Complete shock and fascination. Get the crowd watching excited as they spot him make an incredible and explosive intro into the movie, and maybe, just maybe have him do a bit more at the end, then like that, just walk away, never to be seen again or supposedly die, in anger everyone fights back their hardest till the war ends, then they find a clue he may still be alive out there somewhere, cliff hanger...

Strike me preveious comment about Quitin Tarrentino making this film.
After further thought, I feel Quitin's talents would best be used directing the Gears Of War Film for SURE. A rated R Halo film would never float. GOW is more his style. For Halo, outside of Peter Jackson I would have to nominate James Cameroon.

The difference with this and God of war, is people will be too distracted with the gods and the giant beasts in a God of war movie to notice Kratos prancing about like Arnold too much, lol. They'll just see it as another Conan and yet, it could still be good. With MC, as soon as guns enter the movie, everything changes, 1 man army movies become lame action flicks with little or no common sense.

Having read the original Alex Garland script, the Chief was pretty important in there, but I do agree that a movie would be best if it wasn't all Chief, all the time.

This is something that Bungie actually talked about on the Halo 3 bonus disc... The reason we won't ever see Master Chief's face is because as "blank slate", Master Chief can appeal to everyone. We can see ourselves in him and feel like we are Master Chief, fighting the covenant and being the savior of the universe.

I'd rather see Master Chief as the main character.

The whole aim of a halo movie is to appeal to both Halo people and none halo people, MC can still be in the movie, without actually BEING in the movie. MC is a legend right? So keep it like that, a myth, let the soldiers fight for a reason, they are fighting knowing that MC, the legend, the hero, the one they have never seen is leading them. Then when they actually see MC, they feel privileged, almost blessed, this spurs them to fight harder.

MC is supposed to be like Jesus or something in this war, so make him that way :)

Halo fans will love it because the weapons they have all come to know will still be in the movie, the aliens are there too, the only thing missing is the MC, and hes not completely absent, he should come in, sort of like at a point where the games cross over with the movie, the zebra crossing, relive a famous part of the Halo series, but in the perspective of the movie hero which is in fact just another soldier in the games.

Funny enough, this will almost make Halo fans want to pop in thier Halo disk and go back to that moment seen in the movie where MC passes by some soldiers and try to look for whom may have been the soldier starring in the movie. Now that my friends, is movie making, not Arnold or Sylvester stallone in a green suit busting up all the aliens and jumping out of an explosion at the end, not to mention getting the hottest girl in the movie, snogging, the end, explosive music made by Marilyn Manson or some shit. Lol. Theres no space for a sequel in a movie like that, cos the plot sucks to start with, lmao.

Agreed. :D

Though it isn't neccesserily the Master Chief as an individual that inspires. But the myth of the Spartans and their secret battles. That would be the awesome legend, the soldiers that are rarely seen but fighting the secret and most important battles.

And why would someone point out about V for Vendetta? When you see Master Chief standing their making long-ass riddles and speeches, please tell me. lulz

I agree overall with the community's intelligence (most of them anyway) on this one, for once. I think the Master Chief is a great character for a support role a la Arnold in T2: Judgement Day. He is too much of a loner to deal with and not make it a cheesy Doom-fest. I'm glad to see that they were already making excellent decisions with this film. Make this!

MAKE MASTER CHEIF THE LEAD CHARACTER.

It would ruin the movie. It would ruin the story. Anybody who hasn't played all three of the games and read all of the books wouldn't understand the REAL MEANING OF THE HALO TRILOGY from the movie...

Don't ruin the movie. F**k you Peter Jackson.

The real meaning of the Halo trilogy? What's that then? Master Chief is simply a weapon of the UNSC, manafactured along with other weapons. A different Spartan could have made the rank of Master Chief and it would still be the same story.

Exactly Mike, besides, the lack of MC's presence gives us the opportunity to see what the others around him were experiencing. We saw all this jibberish in the adverts of the soldiers explaining their epic battles, but its a load of bull, because having not read the books or not yet played Halo Wars, the soldiers as far as I am concerned did jack shit. All they did in the games was get in the way, have little use and get killed all the time.

So this would really give them the spot light, this will really show us what all that advertising was all about, I wanna see normal soldiers driving the warthogs into battle, getting killed around the place, being torn apart by ravaging floods, then just as someone is about to get killed, they close their eyes and prey, next thing they know, they are still alive. But why? They look up and find they are protected by a energy shield or what ever they are called, (they have similar stuff in Resistance) but who's? MC's, thats who, he takes all the aliens out, but not like he does in the game, they have to make it look as if he JUST manages to take them out, not walk in there like frigging commando and blow them all to hell.

Then as sudden as he came, he vanishes again. Thats just an idea, but I can almost see it on the big screen. Halo fans watching the movie would be out of thier seats at that moment, and none Halo fans would be thinking, who the f was that? Curious minds that have no experience with the story of Halo will go on to find out more about this green armored assailant hero.

The whole point of the mask is so players can imagine themselfs under the mask. So take away the mask and you loose a pretty big part of the game. If they take away the mask it wouldn't make sence considering this is a maine part of the game. Imagine yourself under the suit, thats what bungie wants!

I dunno if this has been said yet but when I first read this it made me think about the terminator movies where Arnold wasnt the main character but definitely a huuge part of the movies. Maybe the movie couldve followed just 2 or 3 of the marine characters and have them be the emotional part of the movie and well Master Chief could fill in all the action and be the guy that protects them and helps them through out the whole movie

every elite the chief comes into melee combat with in the novels he struggles, often getting overpowered, hell he DOES get completely overpowered by a brute

the movie might be ok if they got a good team of producers and directors and so forth but if not the movie will crash and burn and take the halo name with it from what i have seen so far from movie clips on the web the movie grafics have a long way to go before it looks mildly realistic. as for making it more emotional..... DON'T they nearly killed transformers doing that, they did kill pearl harbor (the movie) and as a halo i think addict the emphasis should be on kicking alien ass. who cares if your missus wont want to watch it send her out for a girls night, harden up and enjoy a good action movie the way it should be. thats my opinion like it or leave it
