Some of you were already discussing this yesterday in the wee hours when the news of the latest Smash Bros. delay hit, but we thought we might give the topic a place of its own. Do you think the delay of Brawl will result in a delay for Mario Kart ... or was a Mario Kart delay inevitable anyway? We actually think the latter is pretty likely, for several reasons. First, nearly all of the Wii's big first party releases have been through one delay or another, so what the hell, we've come to expect it. But there's also the fact that we haven't seen much on the title, and nothing lately, so that whole "early 2008" deal is looking like it might turn into "sometime later." And really, as far as we're concerned? That's okay. It's going to take our wallets (and social lives) long enough to recover from Brawl as it is.
Wii Warm Up: A matter of delays

I will reveal embarrassing personal secrets to anyone who will laugh at me if Mario Kart Wii is released in Q2
There is no way. 1 gameplay video. 1. And people think it will release relatively soon.

Did you know 'Nintendo' is the Japanese word for 'delay'? True story.

I don't think we'll see it for a while. Nintendo has this perfectionist mentality that won't let them release it this soon. I'm starting to wonder if they're just using early release dates to lead us along in an iPhone/OSX Leopard-like fashion (read: announced 6 mos. ahead of the actual release time, possible delays included).
My bet is with an earlier comment that said MKWii is going to be a holiday release and not any time sooner.

Whatever the cause of the 29 day delay for Brawl, I hope it leads to No More Heroes being a HUGE hit here in the states. And with regards to MKWii, we had seen far less of Link's Crossbow Training by the time it must have been ready, hearing really nothing about it until two months or less before it came out. So there is a chance, though I am not arguing for the existence of a Q2 MKWii. What bothers me is Wii Fit. It hasn't technically been delayed but it sure is not out yet.

I agree with you on the fact that we knew virtually nothing about LCBT and it was released on time. But that game was a pack in based off of existing software engines. It really wasn't hard to use TP's engine to make that game. I think we will see MK (MKWii is teh ghey name) sometime in Q2 or Q3. Nintendo has stated a couple of times that they do not want a holiday rush of games and they are committed to releasing games throughout the year. I doubt they would just say early 08 if they had any intention of a holiday release.
On the other hand, the last 2 MK games were released on 11/15/05 & 11/17/03, so I could see the argument for a holiday release.
On a side note, other than the launch day delays, what has been the longest and most significant delay a Wii game has seen?

Mario Kart is almost guaranteed a delay. I don't expect it to come out before Fall of 08. I think Mario Kart's tentative release date was more of a PR move than a promise. Personally I don't mind the Brawl delay or one for MK... the games will come out when they come out and will be better for the delay.

To be honest, I sorta have little interest in MKWii. I mean, yeah, I enjoy the Mario Kart games, but all my hype is for Brawl. I needs a delay otherwise I probably won't get it for awhile. The hype would be over by the time I'm satisfied with Brawl, so I'd lose interest in Brawl. I'm thinking Fall sounds more reasonable, we usually get a first party game from Nintendo in early fall. Yeah, we get a holiday title too, I dunno what game will fill that gap yet...

Mario kart was going to be delay, I think most of us are just use to nintendo games getting delayed. Dont mind it so much, but i feel for those who have only a wii and or limited funds, so their saving their money for one game n continue to wait for that one game they can buy that season/year. I just wonder if the delay was to make press more copies of the game ;-). n wheres megaman?
This will most def help no more heroes in being a success im sure. head to the store to find out that brawl isnt there n u have money to burn and if NMH gets good reviews, im sure people will stumble upon it (for it hasnt had much press beyond the hype on the intertubes, but that is limited audience).
plus what holiday gift release would nintendo have if it released all their games i nthe first two quarters?

It better be delayed due to enhancing the online. After Brawl, no other 1st party game better fall short. Just like MoH:H2 did for FPS, Brawl online should be a benchmark for the future.

I don't think anyone is quibbling with the idea of a delay. Has Nintendo debuted a first-party title on time for the Wii? (Twilight Princess doesn't count; how many years was it delayed for the Cube before it hit it and the Wii simultaneously?)
Honestly, I'm a Mario Kart freak from way back. I got Super Mario Kart shortly after it was released. I'm dying for this title (though it looks like I'm alone). I wasn't impressed by Double Dash, but I'm ready to give its successor a test drive...now.

I would just like for one big name game to have a posted release date and then have that date moved up. Now that would be a sight to see. I think Nintendo and all game developers for that matter would benefit from posting a later release date than they expect to need and when the game is completed they can hopefully release it ahead of schedule or ON TIME!

This game is my most wanted right under brawl, and so while I do want it a lot, I have my doubts that we'll be seeing it before July

Hmm... but Amazon pegs the game's release as April 30?

It'll get delayed till November in English regions no doubt about it. Anyone who doesn't expect a delay is a dumb ass.

I've been playing a lot of Double Dash lately with my son, and it's beginning to make me anxious for the Wii version. I always thought DD was as good as the N64 version and a lot of fun to play if you have a son who can't drive to save his life but is content to ride in the back and randomly shoot shit at people and still feel like he's contributing.
As far as delays go, I couldn't care less at this point because I'm flat broke. I'm going to start putting aside $20 per pay check for the next month so that I can get Brawl when it finally comes out.
