Bionic Commando Rearmed for XBLA and PSN is a looker
You've gotta hand it to the folks at Capcom, they've done gone and gotten us excited about Bionic Commando again. No, not the big-budget remake featuring Nathan (née Radd) Spencer (we're still not sold on that one), we're talking about the 2D remake bound for Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network, revealed today by IGN to be Bionic Commando Rearmed.
Just tossing an HD upgrade of the game onto either service wouldn't have piqued our interest quite the same way this reimagining has. Terrorists in this Bionic Commando? Nope,Hitler Master D and the Badds are back. Fancy three-dee graphics? Well, yes, but with that same old 2D gameplay you remember. Check out the video after the break to watch Radd do his swing-thing in motion.

Which version to pick?
Both will be the same graphics, the same sound... just one will have rumble inmediatly, achievements and a more comfortable controller.
So, which one to pick...?
Deez @ Jan 17th 2008 5:53PM
Hate to jump on fanboy wars, but I think I agree...on all 3 points :/
DBX00 @ Jan 17th 2008 5:55PM
Don't be too sure that they'll be the same price, both will have rumble, and which one can i play without a $50 subscription and constant downtime...??
Vidikron (FU) @ Jan 17th 2008 5:55PM
You could always play the Wii version.
marcandrer @ Jan 17th 2008 5:57PM
your mom is more comfortable
Fernando Rocker @ Jan 17th 2008 6:02PM
No Vidikron, I cannot play a Wii vesion because it doesn't exist.
Besides, I use my Wii for exclusives games and my 360 for multiplatform games, like this one, because it offers more value than any other version.
The PS3? Not very good, highly aclaimed exlusives games, ugly and uncomfortable controller with no rumble and the left analog stick in the wrong place with a segmented pad and useless triggers... plus, inferior versions of multiplatforms games.
So, tell me... who miss more fantastic games? A guy who doesn't play BioShock, Mass Effect and Halo, or a guy who doesn't platy Uncharted, Ratchet and Unreal Tournament?
Mr.ESC @ Jan 17th 2008 6:08PM
That depends if I can play it on my PSP as well I would go for the PSN version but then again I love achievements.
Thanks to Call of Duty 4 my Gamer score is finally OVER NINE THOUSAND!!!
Yes I spend hours searching for all the Flags, phone numbers and other crappy collectables in games like Crackdown, Assassins’ Creed and The darkness, I also played the s*it out of Dead Rising which was a delight by the way and even played Yaris so I could do that pun and yes it was worth it.
Vidikron (FU) @ Jan 17th 2008 6:09PM
The point is that you're an idiot. Why even ask a question like that? In practice, I actually agree. As an owner of all the systems I usually go with the 360 versions for the reason you listed, but we all know you don't have a PS3, so that version isn't even an option for you. Also, you do realize that not everyone has both systems (like yourself), right? So their decision is made either way. You're just trolling. STFU.
DBX00 @ Jan 17th 2008 6:12PM
Give it a break. People buy the console they want for the games they want to play. I am too grown to care if someone thinks one game is superior to the next if I don't have fun playing it. I thought Mass Effect took too long to get entertaining, Bioshock was fun, and Halo is just not my thing.
Also, what's up with this PS3 controller is worst than the 360 controller. Maybe I just don't have big hands like everyone but (imo) the PS3 controller works better for everything other than FPS. Anyway, I can play all these multiplatform games on either system and as the recent releases have shown (COD4, DMC4), the PS3 versions of these games run faster and have small graphical edge above the rest. Therefore, you can enjoyr your Live experience but I prefer not having to pay to play online and have games that have more than 32 players playing at one time. Let me know when a 360 game can accomplish that one at a real 720p or 1080p resolution...no bs 540p or 680p. Thanks.
Secura @ Jan 17th 2008 6:30PM
I pick the PS3 version. You pick the 360 version. It's just my opinion and it's yours. No need to repeat yourself Fernando, you sound like a broken record.
Secura @ Jan 17th 2008 6:30PM

DemiurgicSoul @ Jan 17th 2008 6:32PM
Wow, console wars for a downloadable game that was originally released 20 years ago? I have all three consoles so I'm not sure what I'll get this for. Oh, and from everything I read COD4 and DMC4 run identically for both systems.
Fernando Rocker @ Jan 17th 2008 6:33PM
Say the guy who made a double post...
But for the last time! I don't sound like a broken record... broken record... broken record... broken record...
Secura @ Jan 17th 2008 6:36PM
That was a REALLY bad comeback Fernando, even for you.
Donald @ Jan 17th 2008 6:36PM
I think my irony detector just exploded.
Killjebus @ Jan 17th 2008 6:45PM
If there were a Wii version, it would be so chalk full of mini-games that they would have to shorten or get rid of the remake.
Fernando, where were you during the Resistance 2 threads?
KiraXD @ Jan 17th 2008 7:01PM
and one will have a more usefull controller that wont make you run off cliffs by pressing down.
simmcity @ Jan 17th 2008 8:30PM
@Fernando
It surprises me that you post something on almost all the news threads mentioning the word PS3, but you skipped over probably one of the most commented ones, that being the Resistance 2 unveiling.
Delgado @ Jan 17th 2008 8:33PM
@DBX00 "and as the recent releases have shown (COD4, DMC4), the PS3 versions of these games run faster and have small graphical edge above the rest."
Really? Do you need me to find that forum link with screen caps from CoD4 on both systems, showing the 360's graphical superiority to the PS3 version? Not to mention the fact that literally every multi-plat release has showed similar issues, even longer load times, on the PS3. The only new game I've heard a difference would be the new Burnout - the PS3 version is supposedly much smoother even though they look identical.
I mean, I'm all about buying whatever console you want... but you're just spewing out misinformation.
"I am too grown to care if..."
Really? I would be willing to guess you're no older than 16, based upon your simplistic prose. Go back to school.
JJ @ Jan 17th 2008 8:43PM
actually Delgade i didnt notice much of a difference between COD4 or assassins creed between the 2 systems. I personally think they were both very VERY good games and designed to take advantage of the hardware they run on.
Sure some issues abound, but, truth be told, i've had issues with both consoles at times (yes even the best one out there the 360 gives me issues). Now i'm not sure if its the game or the hardware but the only system that HASNT given me any issues in the time i've owned them have been nintendo systems so there ya go.
In any case, chances are i'll get this game for whichever system strikes my fancy at the time since rumble aint a HUGE issue to me (i barely notice when it IS there) and gamerscore...well... GS and achievements mean next to nil for me, and while i DO have a 10k GS, its purely by coincidence and not some oveareaching need to increase my nerd rep.

I'd agree with most apart from the 360's control pad, arg!
A @ Jan 17th 2008 9:11PM
It def will rumble immediatly; as soon as my 360 starts up, it sounds like an jet turbine. Of course, I guess that means they don't have exactly the same sound, since my 360 is incapable of presenting silence...
hvnlysoldr @ Jan 18th 2008 12:10AM
I feel less than clean that you guys have grappled onto Fernando's post.
B1gC72 @ Jan 18th 2008 1:42AM
how do i always get roped in by Fernando's slanderous filth?
"So, tell me... who miss more fantastic games? A guy who doesn't play BioShock, Mass Effect and Halo, or a guy who doesn't platy Uncharted, Ratchet and Unreal Tournament?"
well im glad you asked Fernando. since i dont care for Bioshock, Mass Effect, or Halo then im going to go with the games i do care for in Uncharted, Ratchet & Clank, and Unreal Tournament. do you ever stop to think before you post that maybe, just maybe, people dont agree with your opinions? *gasp* i know it's hard to swallow but you gotta accept it. i dont like 360 personally but that doesnt make it a bad console, just means i dont like it. the games they have dont appeal to me and the controller is too big and uncomfortable and makes my hands sweat, not to mention the fact that the analog sticks feel awkward to me. how is it better having your thumbs crooked like that? id rather have mine side by side.
alot of my friends love 360 and i often play at parties with them, but i also have alot of friends that love PS3 and i play at parties with them too. same for Wii. different people like different stuff jackass. i think your constant bashing of the PS3 only solidifies my beliefs that you are a closet PS3 fanboy cause there is no way that anyone could obsess over something they dont like as much as you claim to. it's ok to admit it man, we wont make fun of you and your hippocratic ways too much.
Deez @ Jan 17th 2008 5:51PM
Looks bloody amazing. I'd pay £5 for this...(max :P) as long as it lasts at least 5 hours
Greyseal @ Jan 17th 2008 5:52PM
Wow... I wasn't expecting that video to be so impressive. After loving Mega Man Powered-Up, I'm definitely looking forward to this.
samred @ Jan 17th 2008 5:54PM
Hey! Get the heck out of here, you nerd!
Looking forward to this.
Brian Fantana @ Jan 17th 2008 5:57PM
Damn, that looks good. I'l pick it up. Loved the NES one. And an XBLA/PSN game unlocks stuff for the Next Gen game is pretty cool.
schatten529 @ Jan 17th 2008 6:00PM
I was mildly interested in the remake if only to relive my favorite NES game without pulling the old system out of the closet.
After seeing the video, I will for sure be purchasing this on XLM as long as the price is reasonable.
The revamped visuals and soundtrack would have been enough. Hopefully the new weapons and grappler moves will fit the classic gameplay appropriately.
Mr.ESC @ Jan 17th 2008 6:10PM
Hopefully this will be the begin of many Capcom games to come (to the xlive that is).Now I freaking want Megaman 2 and 3 for the XBOX Live Kthnxby.
deddyluger @ Jan 17th 2008 6:14PM
Looks pimp.
umm....hello??? @ Jan 17th 2008 6:16PM
well, if the PSN version is DRM-free (not required to hook up to the internet to play), that is the version I will buy. of course, since my NES is still hooked up to a TV with the original BC, I'll wait for the reviews of this--but it sure looks great!!!!
spyker @ Jan 17th 2008 6:17PM
Looks nice... might get it.
snaker9 @ Jan 17th 2008 6:28PM
It would be nice if this were to come to Wiiware.
MysticX @ Jan 17th 2008 6:31PM
Explain to me why this can´t be on WiiWare as well?
x silence x @ Jan 17th 2008 6:35PM
Who gives a fuck what you play it on!?! That looks sweet! Hey Devs, take a look at the proper way to remake a classic.
Dave T @ Jan 17th 2008 6:38PM
Not sure if I want this or the new Bionic Commando more! Would love to see the original Bionic Commando on the Wii's VC, as well as this Rearmed version!
Jon D @ Jan 17th 2008 6:44PM
puttin money aside in my ps wallet right now.
wonka @ Jan 17th 2008 6:50PM
Nintendo should get their heads out their asses and launch WiiWare proper!
Bionic Commando is one of my favorite games! GIMME!!
SoulBlade @ Jan 17th 2008 6:52PM
I love Capcom. They did the same thing w/ Mega Man Powered Up and Megaman Mav Hunter X for PSP. They know that 2D classics still hold up and people are willing to pay for em if they get cleaned up a bit. Same thing with Castlevania and Konami.
Jcarpio @ Jan 17th 2008 6:53PM
Wow, okay... me wants it now
After this, someone please remake Flashback: Quest for Identity for XBLA/PSN.
Killjebus @ Jan 17th 2008 7:05PM
Flashback, one of my favorite games on the Genesis. It looks like more and more redone remakes will show up on the consoles with an online service that is not so archaic that it would scare away the Monster underneath Fernando's bed hiding behind his Mario slippers.
Jigsaw @ Jan 17th 2008 7:00PM
Looks awesome. Can't wait to play it!
grapejoos @ Jan 17th 2008 7:05PM
I think I want this about 500% more than I want the new, 3D Bionic Commmando. This looks awesome, and BC was one of the best NES games ever. You have my MS points, Capcom.
arrrgh @ Jan 17th 2008 7:36PM
I'll def pick this one up. Unlike that new game that looks about as much fun as mdk (yeah some of you might like it....but you two are morons) have a nice day
comtar @ Jan 17th 2008 7:42PM
Something tells me when Capcom was wanting to see if we wanted Bionic Commando on the Wii, this is the version they were referring too.
Dictatorship @ Jan 17th 2008 8:10PM
I loved Bionic Commando on the NES, in fact, I still have it and remember how much I loved seeing Hit-I mean, Master D's head explode in the end. I'm definetily going to pick it up for 360 when it launches.
And nice camp soldier's reference at 2:08. Capcom sure knows how to give nostalgia to people.
Kujel @ Jan 17th 2008 8:39PM
I just want say that game looks pretty good!
BPM4:Guns of the Idiots @ Jan 17th 2008 8:46PM
DO and WANT.
NEED: 360 soon...
