@cos

Call me old fashioned but to me playing online is as boring as taking a shit...I prefer to have people playing in the same room with me.Playing online is like playing single player with slightly better AI and whiny 13 year olds...Split screen multiplayer is still the way to go,But then again...I have real friends...

cuz you know, its *impossible* to enjoy BOTH from time to time.

and let me know when they create a TV large enough to hold 16+player split-screen multiplayer matches.

both have thier strengths and weaknesses...point blank.

As for All the system war talk, lets look at it like this. it was nintendos year. plain and simple. no bullshit tlaking is going to change it, doesnt matter if they "got lucky" or whatever the fuck it may have been. Sony infact dropped the ball with the ps3 and is still scrambling to pick it up. to be honest id like to see them do better but if they dont ill be fine with a 360 and a wii cause all the third part developers are already starting to flock like flys to shit. now 2008 will be alot more interesting.
Things that will hopefully happen:
Nintendo finally pushes third parties to do something more than dumb fuckin mini game compilations for the wii. Gets more games to be online. Get Mario Kart and Brawl out, seriously everyones dying for those....
Microsoft needs to fix live and bad. maintain access to the hardcore third party japanese games since thats what is gonna put them over in japan. The Rpg's do help a bit, price drop.
As for sony well a prayer would be a good start after that though, Garner bigger exclusive titles that actually stay exclusive. price drop. Push the psp better cause its defeinitely helping them out alot, figure out wether they wanna sell the system as a blu ray media all in one monster or a game system. seriously the soccer moms out there might confuse it with a dishwashing machine after awhile. yup thats all i can think of at the moment, my brain is tired from being up over 24 hours.....

Microsoft must be doing a happy dance right now. That's spitting distance of the Wii, and they absolutely slaughtered Nintendo in terms of revenue and games sold (especially once we discount Wii Play, which is basically hardware, not software).

Where is Bioshock on this list? What is wrong with you people? Mario Party 8? Seriously? And who is still buying PS2 games? Jesus, get a JOB! Some theories point out that the fall of Rapture was due to it's inhabitants not playing Bioshock....America, you've been warned.

C'mom guys, can't you see that those numbers and the console wars are all lies? It's a big conspiracy made by big companies, the governator and "The Man" to keep the truth hidden.

The truth is out there. And in this post:

-The DREAMCAST is the top-selling, best quality, most powerful, larger atach rate console game EVER
-The GAME GEAR is the best handheld EVER

Here are the true numbers, gotten from researchers who are not being paid by Big N, Sony Defence Force or Willian Gates the III:

-Dreamcast: 2 Billion Units in 2007
-Game Gear: 1.5 billion Units in 2007
-All others: About 10 units

Software (total numbers are 12 billion, because the games are so good you need to have seconds):
1-Sonic Galaxy
2-Sonic Play with Sega-remote
3-Sonic GG (you know, Game Gear)
4-Nights: Legends of Rock'n Roll Dreams
5-Monkey Ball: Modern Warfare (atracting the casual gamer and the War fanatic)
6-Panzer Dragoon (the original forever)
7-Virtua Fighter-Creed of the Assassin
8-Shinig Force-Train your war tatics in minutes a day
9-Shen-Mue at the Olympic Games
10-The Hous of the Dead Halo

There is something wrong with this list. I'm sure I read somewhere Bioshock sold around 2mil. Mass Effect also deserves to be up there. It's probably the best Sci-Fi game ever.

Also, is it fair to put Wii Play on that list? That's like counting PS3s as standalone Blu Ray Players.

On VGChartz, they estimate that Bioshock and Mass Effect sold roughly 900k life to date in North America. Most companies releases life to date numbers for world wide shipped sold.

Wow the PS2 is really selling. I still think it has the best bang for your bucks, especially if you have kids under 10. My brother bought the white slim one for his two kids and the love it. You know since they don't know what 1080p is or what HDMI stands for.

RPGjock,

My point? Nothing, just pointing out the obvious. Perhaps you'd do better re-reading the top software selling platforms and refigure your list.

To be fair, sales of luxury items (video games is a luxury item folks) is a strong indicator of how well an economy is doing. As it stands, the American economy may be slumping, but it is in no way in any form of recession or doing badly. We're still well below the unemployment levels of comparative nations (ie Europe) and are well below the 8% full employment level that economists actually think as optimal. The fact that video game machines are flying off the shelves indicates that people are confident enough in their jobs to drop a few hundred dollars (as game sales are going, per month) to entertain themselves.

Also, inflation is not an economic indicator but an indicator of how badly our government is doing at keeping a balanced budget. Inflation is better tied to government spending, borrowing and, most heavily, printing of money. Inflation is the indicator of the growth in currency over the growth of economy. When there is inflation, more dollars enter the economic system than the value of new economic growth can handle. Inflation isn't an automatic indicator of a slowing economy, especially in the context of the US Government today which is grossly overspending. Had the US Government been in an expense reduction mode (hasn't happened ever that I can think of) or were growing only at a moderate pace, we could call it a slowing economy.

Economic growth is still going on, but at a slower pace than before. There isn't a crisis and above is an indicator that things aren't going badly.

If you feel the need to use sales figures - which actually showed a higher jump in sales for PS3 - to justify your fanboyism, feel free. The masses are, of course, all knowing and wise, no? You go ahead and judge your console on the shopping habits of the same silly American consumers who vote Republican and Democrat.

Market trends, especially at Christmas, reflect current market pricing. The 360 appears a good buy, considering it's a lot cheaper, and the games are generally cheaper in stores. Again, Christmas shoppers tend to be uneducated shoppers, and therefore overlook the lack of functionality, with the 360 lacking any form of HD movie playback, HDMI compatibility, region free gaming, free online, etc. In setting their base model as a truly base model, M$ do a good job pulling the wool over Mommy and Daddy's eyes. It's sad, really.

So for the fanboys here, please put your toys back in the pram.
