Kindly check the mail: Big Daddies are en route
If you've got a Big Daddy figure who's been suffering from Drill Dysfunction, you'll be happy to hear that we've heard from several tipsters that replacements for the figurines are being sent out, just four short months after the game was initially released. Not that you've forgotten, but you'll also be treated to the BioShock-themed art book "Breaking the Mold."
Sadly, you'll no longer be required to send in your old Big Daddy as verification that he was, indeed, a DD suffer. We say sadly because we can't shake the image of a broken-drilled Little Daddy staring out the window while your new one flies around the room with cries of "To infinity and beyond!" Let's try to remember who was in your hearts first and make him feel included, OK?

so, people who have a figure that isn't broken can essentially call in and say theirs is, and get a 2nd one AND an artbook? Hell, can anybody call in and just say they have a broken Big Daddy, having only purchased the regular edition?

Customer service ask you to rip open your big daddy then you have to tell them whats inside the body...

Love...they are filled with love.
Oh, and death. Almost forgot the death part.

They're not that stupid dizzy lol... >_> You had to have registered here: http://www.2kgames.com/bioshock/busted/ before the program ended and BEFORE they announced that people wouldn't have to mail their broken crap first. And originally they were going to make you mail your broken one first, but decided people had waited long enough. Any requests made AFTER the deadline you have to mail your broken figure in first. So they know you aren't making a fraudulent claim. And they probably check if you've gotten a replacement already and check your address.

Curses. My plan on replacing the soccer players on my foosball table with Big Daddies is foiled.

You forgot "would you"

Great Toy Story reference!

I downloaded the web-based art book, and must admit that my biggest motivation to play through the game was to witness some of the gruesome creatures displayed towards the back of that book. Don't get me wrong I thought BioShock was great...but after browsing through some of the art I expected that as I ventured further into Rapture the denizens would be more and more mutated and unrecognizable as humans.
Sadly, it was a huge disappointment to only face off against a few different looking citizens with the same canned attacks based on their specialty.

Would you kindly fix my daddy?
russtophiles @ Jan 17th 2008 3:31PM
I got mine yesterday. It comes sandwiched in two soft styrofoam pads without being bound inside a action-figure-esque package like the original one. Seems to be looking good! The artbook is a little short, but not 8 pages short like some 'artbooks' that are released, and for a freebie can you really complain?
One neat thing in particular about the artbook is that in the forward by Ken Levine he lists all (or at least it appears to be all) of the artists on the two 2k teams and shares highlights about that person's contribution to the project, something art books should do a lot more. The content is smartly categorized and actually shows different iterations of the Bioshock logo... another thing you don't see in artbooks often.
All in all despite the crazy wait time this was a fantastic move on 2k's part and goes way beyond the call of duty for a broken drill bit. I'd have been content just with the artbook and healing the big daddy with some epoxy.

And you get to keep your original Big Daddy too?
russtophiles @ Jan 17th 2008 3:49PM
Yep. I'm giving my first to a friend of mine who got the regular PC version. I think I only need one.
Coen @ Jan 17th 2008 4:51PM
@russtophiles: So you gave your friend a broken Daddy? That's harsh...
NATO_Duke @ Jan 17th 2008 6:06PM
Yeah what a jerk! His friend asks for it, and he gives it because he isn't greedy. Geez. Lets kill em!
Coen @ Jan 18th 2008 2:57AM
Woh there buddy.. read my post again before you attack me.
"I've got a present for you, my friend."
"Wow, that's really nice... OOOH it's a big Daddy. But wait, it's broken!"
"Yeah, I know, but don't worry, I've got another one that isn't broken. I'm keping that one myself.
Peace!

Or everyone could be lucky like me and get a second broken Big Daddy in the mail. Needless to say I'm pretty ticked. I am not the only one from looking on the 2K Forums. It happens the same way, drill bit broken off and stuck inside the styrofoam packaging.
Trashman @ Jan 17th 2008 6:27PM
question for all who have gotten it. did you get it via ups, fedex, or just regular mail?
vectorscalar @ Jan 17th 2008 10:42PM
I hope mine comes, but I'm not holding my breath.
I signed up on the website the day it came out (23 Aug IIRC). I contacted 2K support in late October to see what the hold up ws and when I'd get my box. I contacted them right before New years, too. I was told I'd have to send in a photo of the broken Big Daddy with today's newspaper and my email address. I can't quite do that as I gave the broken tip one away as a trophy for a tournament.
IF I can track down the kid who won it and IF he will bring it to me for the photo, then MAYBE I'll get a fixed one. Anyone else had this run around?
Saul102 @ Jan 18th 2008 2:10PM
I got mine, and I am really impressed with 2K for dojng this. I imagine it wasn't cheap! I really like the artbook, but I am a bit disappointed with the Big Daddy. While his drillbit isn't broken, he isn't painted as nicely as the original. It is almost like they rushed to get these out and forgot to pain a lot of the detail on this one. Granted, if I didn't have the first one to compare it to I would think this is the coolest thing ever. As is, though, I will be keeping both. One that is unbroken, and what that is ully painted...
