It's time to prepare for dirty puns and pleb humor as Sierra announces the return of Larry Laffer to the digital screen in Leisure Suit Larry Box Office Bust. Although Sierra finally made the announcement official today, Artie Lange already spilled the beans late last year that a new Larry was on the way.
Box Office Bust will see Larry in "mission-based exploration, platforming, racing and puzzle-solving" and the script is penned by Happy Madison Productions' Allen Covert -- LSL series creator Al Lowe isn't mentioned anywhere. The game will be developed by Worms studio Team17 and is expected on Xbox 360, PS3, PC and mobile phones. Hopefully, a new game with fresh blood will get Larry standing at attention again after being flaccid for the last ten years.

Dude Leisure Suite Larry has always been one of those games where you can kick back and have a good laugh at, its not ment to be the best game in the world and its by far not the worst. Its best to sit back relax and have a great time with the larry games. i think they should make more.

Sierra 'quest'-type games as a whole did have a significant fanbase, and the first couple of Larry games were genuinely funny. At least that's what I remember; haven't played them for at least 12 years now; I might find find the jokes less entertaining now than I did as a kid.
Another part of Larry's initial appeal was that it was one of the first adult-themed games (certainly one of the first well-made ones).
I was actually waiting for the old Larry games to show up on Gametap with the other early Sierra stuff they have to see if they hold up, but it looks like it's not going to happen (by the way, Space Quest is still amusing, but feels a bit like a chore to play now).

The PC versions were good, they were mostly point and click adventures. That version that came out on Xbox a while ago was crap. It was just a bunch of mini-games. The original PC versions had real storylines.

I guess Nintendo owners aren't old enough for LSL

Oh cum on! I mean the Wii screams for this kind of game. Especially with the jacket sleeve and vibrations.

LSL was one of the premier adventure games back in the day, it had a good story even if it was prevy, the humor is an acquired taste tho...
Now we have the new game which is just a drinking game with bewbs it lacks the wit and humor the old ones did...and I bet the movie will be a wannabe natl. lampoons or American pie........

It is actually not a movie, but rather an upcommin game called Box office Bust(which is not a pun made up by Joystiq BTW.)
As for it bein like American Pie, you are right. According to the producer of Box Office Bust(link is http://pc.ign.com/articles/846/846123p1.html,) he said that the game will have no nudity. Moreover, it seems that the game reads like an action adventure game where you have to do mission objectives.

I'd rather see a new point and click only adventure game Larry from Al Lowe.

Point-and-click is for the weak, AGI ftw. Few things compare to the satisfaction of finding a new word the interpreter understood (especially as English is not my first language).

Box Office Bust will see Larry in "mission-based exploration, platforming, racing and puzzle-solving"
So, it's basically going to be crap like Magna Cum Laude was. Not an unexpected occurrence. I don't think it necessarily has to be point-and-click (because the original EGA version was from the pre-mouse days, and we had to use the keyboard to type out commands!), but mini-games aren't exactly conducive to problem-solving, as we all remember from the original LSL what happens when you fornicate with prostitutes without prophylactics.

It sort of sucks if it does play as MCL and I agree that LSL doesn't have to be point and click to be like the old adventure games. If I recall, I don't think Monkey Island four was point and click, then again I can be wrong.
I think Vivendi should license the next game to TElltale since they seem to get it right with Sam and Max.

Well, the writing in LSL MCL was good, but it did not help the game from sucking; I like MCL for its humor and script, but the game is littered with so many repetitive mini games that it played like a licensed game.
As for nudity, I have to agree with the producer that it shouldn't really matter since Al Lowe's LSL series had a reduction of nudity in the later games (if you do not count the easter eggs or the nude swimming pools in 6 and 7.)
