Developed by Q Games and illustrated with hand-drawn 2D artwork, PixelJunk Monsters sees players constructing all manner of defensive towers in a bid to wipe out marauding monsters. Destroying a lush forest provides the material and the gold and gems looted from fanged corpses provide the financial power to your gauntlet of startlingly efficient death. Really, it's just the sort of cute game Japan needs to overcome its weird PSN phobia.
PixelJunk Monsters to invade PSN on Jan. 24
12
We recently discovered that we've been playing tower defense real-time strategy games completely wrong all along. It's not entirely our fault, mind you, as the genre's name misled us to believe we had to, you know, defend the towers as opposed to using them to protect an utterly hapless village. We'll improve our understanding when PixelJunk Monsters erects itself on the PlayStation Network next Thursday, January 24th, and encourages us to throw in the tower as often as possible.

I have to say that I would have loved to have seen this on Xbox Live Arcade. As a huge tower defense fan this would have been a day one purchase for me.

This game looks so great. I only played DTD for the first time last month when it popped up as a GOTY candidate somewhere, but I loved it. And now this one, which is like that but with, you know, graphics, multiple maps, and campaign modes.... it looks fantastic.
Definitely buying this one.

I've heard good things about this game. Between this and SSHD, I might actually have to give the PSN store my credit card number (since I can't seem to find those dang point cards anywhere).

Those two are definitely worth it. Also if you like poker, High Stakes on the Vegas Strip is very good. High Velocity bowling is good, but doesn't use motion controls quite so much as the Wii... but the graphics and different aspects of gameplay make up for it. PAIN is fun, but I can't decide yet if it was worth it or not. Pixeljunk racers is fun, but pretty simplistic and very very difficult.
Plenty of stuff to spend your money on. Oh yeah, and Tekken 5: DR. Looks great in HD, and it has online (though to be fair, the online is kind of a pain in the butt)

I personally can't wait for this title, but I, too am surprised it didn't take off in Japan, which makes me nervous. But who cares? It's going to be cheap. After this, I go back to waiting for Home...

why does every downloadable game have to "invade" the PSN or XBLA?

the interweb is a hostile place that should only be entered as a full scale invasion

literary imagery, since the monsters described in the game's title are invading a forest village.

Just wanted to fix a misconception - it's doing very well in Japan. My comments (in the linked article) were about PSN in general.
