Suda 51 wants more No More Heroes
No More Heroes isn't even out on shelves yet outside of Japan, most of the reviews haven't even been published, and already director Goichi Suda wants a sequel. The punk-rock Killer 7 creator is already itching to create the next in this bizarre Wii-sclusive action series, despite publisher Ubisoft not yet soliciting for the sequel-itis treatment.
Talking with GameSpot, Suda says he's "really willing" to make a second No More Heroes, and is already asking about moving forward with it as a future project. Suda describes No More Heroes as being unlike any other action game for the Wii, likening it to alternative rock band Arctic Monkeys in terms of its energy (uh, whatever you say, Suda).
Suda 51 is currently working on American localizations of two Grasshopper-developed DS games -- Flower, Sun and Rain and Silver Case -- and is also working on an undisclosed Xbox 360 title for Konami. No More Heroes drops on January 22 in the US, and February 29 in the UK. We'll see then if it's sequel-worthy.

I really hope this game isn't as average as the Arctic Monkeys.
FidliousWong @ Jan 17th 2008 11:35AM
I do think the franchise needs a reboot at a place where it can be appreciated. Make it next gen, please? I mean, Suda, baby... you're already disappointed in the Wii marketplace. Imagine if that game had achievement points or Home trophies....
Markez @ Jan 17th 2008 11:40AM
Thought I knew where you were going with that one. Next gen meaning graphics maybe, online stuff, download content. But achievment points? I don't think I'll ever understand the draw there...
Crono (NDF - Knight of the Old School) @ Jan 17th 2008 11:42AM
This game hasn't been released stateside yet. These kinds of games usually sell better in the states anyway.
Not that I'm expecting it too, because Nintendo sucks at advertising their platform, but I think it may fair better than in japan.
FidliousWong @ Jan 17th 2008 11:47AM
I know people who buy games just for achievement points. But yeah. Suda's last comment on No More Heroes was that on a Nintendo Platform, there are No More Gamers, leaving Nintendo published games to thrive and everyone else to battle it out for the sales scraps.
So go where the gamers currently are. Aim at a more core gaming system. Sure, I don't think any game on any system has outpaced WiiPlay, but I could easily see No More Heroes 2 getting some ~Dead Rising love on 360 and PS3.
Sensai @ Jan 17th 2008 12:05PM
There's nothing punk rock about the 360 or the PS3.
:-)
TwEE @ Jan 17th 2008 12:07PM
You want him to make the next No More Heroes on a next gen platform? Why not one of the current ones, theres three to choose from.
And he wouldnt have to wait for next gen to put in boring achievement points, theres a system that has them right now.
Worst Review Ever @ Jan 17th 2008 12:08PM
If you were a rich man then you could own all 3 systems, and you could play all day. Sunrise! Sunset! Sunrise! Sunset!
stu @ Jan 17th 2008 12:23PM
Edge gave No more heroes a 9, and not many games get that let alone on the wii(surely only Zelda + Mario galaxy(10) ) have got 9 or above.

I read some fan-fiction on this game a while back at work.
It was somewhat good, with references to genitalia and lightsabres and foreign objects and perfect hair and dolphins. And some other stuff I can't really remember now.
It was used concrete nouns and stuff.
That's the main reason I'm getting this game. That fan-fiction.
I hope the game is like the fan-fiction.
Can't wait for the Pal release date.
Nigeria @ Jan 17th 2008 12:15PM
I meant "it used concrete nouns".
Like horse. Or hammer.
vidGuy @ Jan 17th 2008 12:13PM
I'm getting interested in this game but even as a hardcore gamer it's not a day-one purchase for me. It's not that there isn't a market for traditionally 'hardcore' franchises or new franchises aimed at that gamer, it's just that there are so many interesting games coming out that sometimes lesser titles get lost in the mix. Case in point, Zack and Wiki, one of the best third party games available yet this generation.
Tremada @ Jan 17th 2008 1:05PM
I already lost interest in this game months ago. They had too many delays. I won't be picking this up. I'm starting to feel the same way towards Little Big Planet too.
Co @ Jan 17th 2008 1:18PM
Apparently Tremada has the attention span of a 6 year old. How do you all of a sudden lose interest in a game because of a delay??
Worst Review Ever @ Jan 17th 2008 1:25PM
I'm wondering if you've ever waited long enough for a girl to put out.
BPM64 - The Second Attack! @ Jan 17th 2008 2:42PM
You've compared an inanimate disc to a human female.
Bravo.
Tremada @ Jan 17th 2008 3:46PM
So me losing interest in a game because it takes forever to come out means I have an attention span of a 6 year old and I don't wait for girls to put out(wha does that even mean?) I didn't know (well, ok, I did) that there were so many retards on this site. I think you two are the ones that need to wipe that hotpocket grease off your fat, filthy fingers, get on a treadmill, and try to lose that virginity. BUT PLEASE DON'T PROCREATE!!!!!
vidGuy @ Jan 17th 2008 3:51PM
They've got a point, Tremada. Some games get delayed a lot and most of them show that the delays were worth it. If you don't have the patience to wait for a game to be released, you are missing out on some of the best games ever (Marios, Zeldas, Super Smash, Final Fantasy, etc have all been delayed at some point).
And BPM, I don't think he was comparing the disc to the female but rather the patience needed to fully experience both. For once I actually agree with WRE.
Tremada @ Jan 17th 2008 3:59PM
vidguy, patience with a woman, and patience with a release date for a game are two completely different things. Trust me, I know from experience. ACTUAL experience, not from watching pron or anime.
Anyway, for games that ARE worth it, like Zelda, I can deal ith it. It sucks, but hey, they are great games. This game is going to fizzle. They teased too much, and didn't release when the time was right. Now I don't evn care about the game. It may just be one sale they lost, or there could be thousands that think the same thing.
With how successful the Wii is, you would think there would be tons of good games for the system. This is not the case. The Wii probably has the lowest ratio of god games orthe system. What's up with that?
vidGuy @ Jan 17th 2008 4:08PM
Hahaha, okay say what you will, patience is patience was the point. There's a good question about timing, quantity, and quality of game releases this gen, especially on the Wii, but it's really a matter of personal opinion and preference. I'm playing three games on the 360 out of the five I own, but six on the Wii out of a dozen I own. I've spent twice as much time with the Wii as the 360. It's not a failing system, but it can look that way if it's offerings aren't your thing.
Of course, PS3 looks like a pile of shit to me but I can understand some enjoying it.
But I agree, new/less popular franchises need to time their marketing and release dates carefully in order to maximize sales potential instead of being buried by bigger releases (like this fall's Gaming Extravaganza).
BPM4:Guns of the Idiots @ Jan 17th 2008 4:11PM
Ah, my mistake. Apology to WRE.
"WRE"? WRYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!
ThornedVenom @ Jan 18th 2008 12:13AM
@ Tremada
How do you know if No More Heroes is not going to be "worth it" like Zelda if the game isn't out yet?
Fullmetal Salchemist @ Jan 17th 2008 1:25PM
Damn it! If it's like the Arctic Monkeys, then it'll be boring and horrendously overplayed. There will only be one level, and you play it ad nauseam.
fawazr @ Jan 17th 2008 1:30PM
Niche titles don't sell well. Only sequels and hype dynamos sell anymore. Killer 7, Okami, and God Hand would all be blockbuster titles if hardcore gamers had much of a presence. Can't blame the Wii for that.
Mr Khan @ Jan 17th 2008 5:22PM
Aye, if there's something Suda 51's known for, it's making niche, "arty" stuff. Not that that is an insult. No More Heroes probably wouldn't be doing much better on another platform. It's suffering the same fate as Killer 7 (although Killer 7 is far more niche than No More Heroes is at all)
Zsavior @ Jan 17th 2008 7:02PM
Fawazr you are wrong they can blame the wii for so much more. For example the Wii is the reason kids don't read, the Wii is the reason there is never a cop around when a crime is happening. Aids, Cancer, the mastication of young infant kittens.
Nobody wants to admit the truth that hardcore gamers have been gone for quite some time and games like Zack and wiki, Okami, God hand, Killer 7, psychonaunts just don't sell to the FPS shootem up community that is ruling American gaming now. But like most insincere bastards they act as if they pick these games up when in reality they come out for their Playstations and their Xboxes and they ignore them.
And undoubtedly people will come on and say "I bought X" one of the games I mentioned, well guess what you were the minority. Acting like gamers now play a huge variety of games will not change the numbers when the companies see them, you are only lying to yourselves. I mean gamers buying quality and variety is why Capcom closed Clover Studios in the first place TO MUCH Success! Believe that and I have a bride to sell to you here in Brooklyn.
Leonidas @ Jan 17th 2008 6:46PM
"-- and is also working on an undisclosed Xbox 360 title for Konami."
MGS4 360 confirmed!
Pawsie @ Jan 18th 2008 7:59AM
the problem with gamers.. some make a point that they want something a little different.. they got it and it's too different.. they go for something a little different, but the same, but it doesn't have enough graphics or not in my prefered system.
I'm going to get this game... because I've been waiting for this particular game. It's a little old, but also a little new.. I can have my GTA like setting with a funny sword and a not so serious story.
Hardcore gamers may complain.. but sadly, they're no longer the majority.. just a section that's divided and marginalized.
Pawsie @ Jan 18th 2008 8:00AM
but i am glad there may be a seequal.. the ending to the game didn't fit with me...
Pawsie @ Jan 18th 2008 8:03AM
eh.. both Konami and Suda tend to do games that are different... more than likely they both will make games for all the systems. But no relation to MGS4.. plus they don't need help converting it for xBox
jynxycat @ Jan 18th 2008 9:31AM
Sequel ?
I guess he thinks this won't flop here in the states too.
