Turner Broadcasting sponsors game design competition
Television and media conglomerate Turner Broadcasting is the latest sponsor of Dare to be Digital 2008, a student-centric game development competition based in Scotland. The media giant joins other sponsors such as EA, Microsoft, AMD, Disney Interactive, and many more.
Since 2000, Dare to be Digital has encouraged teams of UK students to gather, developing games over a ten-week period to be premiered at the Edinburgh Interactive Festival at the end of the event. The competition features prizes for top games across several categories.
Part of the Time Warner group, Turner Broadcasting owns a number of major networks, such as CNN, Cartoon Network, TBS, and TNT. Dare to be Digital is still a relatively small competition, and support from such a wide-reaching conglomerate will only help further promote the event.

Maybe it will eventually spawn something "new and exciting."

"Dare to be digital"? Since when is it a dare?
There's some kids show here with the slogan "dare to be different". Christ is the word overused. Dare to use another word!
Sorry it's totally off topic but what of it?

The most important thing about Turner Broadcasting is that it owns and operates the GameTap service. I think it better explains why Turner Broadcasting would be looking to get involved in this game design competition.

I was in the DtbD competition in the summer of 2006, and those were some of the best ten weeks ever. The competition is an awesome chance to give new graduates real experience to put on a resume. It's expanding all each year, and I'm happy to see it getting more press.

Oh man, this is pretty major news for me and my friends.
Abertay University (which hosts the event) puts most of its funding into (and is most famous for) its game development courses and this event, so having a company like Turner backing/covering the event is going to be phenomenal.
If anyone wants an example of the sort of games the event produces, Ragnarawk is a Guitar Hero/RPG hybrid entry from last year's event, which is designed to be played with a PS2 guitar controller (though you'll need a PC adapter to use it). I'm allowed to plug it because I know some of the creators. =P
