With the launch of Nintendo's WiiWare just around the corner, we expect developers to begin coming out of the woodwork with support for the new download service, the latest of which is Canada-based XGen Studios. Wait, who? As a company known for, of all things, web-based Flash games, XGen has not specified what its initial WiiWare project will be, simply stating that it will release the game alongside the service's launch in early 2008.
On closer inspection, the announcement actually makes a modicum of sense for XGen, which has created browser games for a variety of web portals, including EA's Pogo Network and MTV. The studio's catalog of web games already included labels for those titles it feels are "Wii Compatible," paving the way for game development for the system itself. XGen notes that its first WiiWare title will be based on one of the studio's multiplayer titles, modified to use the Wii remote. But with titles like Fishy, Chicken Jockey, and Balloon Duel, how can you pick just one?

One of my favorite and still most played games on the Wii is Double Wires. If people who make great flash games like Double Wires make improved versions for WiiWare then sign me up!

Pay $50 for a flash game you could play in your web browser.

Try maybe $3-$5. And if its a vast improvement over your standard flash game, then that, my friend, will be money well spent.

@Andy: Excuse me? You can't even get recycled 8-bit titles for less than $5.
Feeding Frenzy is the right way to do a casual fish eating game. It looks and plays like effort went into making it. Fishy is a sluggish abomination that feels like it was thrown together in one day. People really call this crap fun? Getting people to pay for free Flash games is the revolution?
Let me guess... WiiWare won't have demos, either.
It must suck to be a good developer who wants to make a living on decent games, only to see that competition like this is getting the green flag.

I tried Defend Your Castle just using the Browser and it was actually really fun. But the whole field of view/ holding down A while in view mechanic, meant that I dropped a lot of guys from too short a distance to kill them.

Can't wait for Fishy on Wii... hopefully they'll have some kind of 2-player competitive mode. Then I can play with my girlfriend (she loves the game).
