If you're curious to know how Prince of Persia became a film, series creator and movie screenwriter Jordan Mechner spoke with GameDaily to talk about how he went about pitching the idea to Disney, who told him he needed a producer like Jerry Bruckheimer, and then how he took that to mean "pitch to Jerry Bruckheimer" and subsequently won him over. Mechner described writing the screenplay as a 21-month process (three months for first draft, 18 months of revisions), "not counting the 15 years of preparation before that," he said.
Said Mechner about changes from the game's plot, "If I'd tried to adapt the game's storyline beat for beat into a screenplay, we would have wound up with a 'B'-level survival-horror movie about a warrior prince who spends most of his time fighting off ravaging, zombie-like sand creatures -- basically, Resident Evil in the desert." Did he just call the Resident Evil films B-level? Oh snap!

DOES NOT WANT!!!
This might possibly ruin the franchise (more...), and I acctually enjoyed the Sequel...
:\
Lets hope it isn't REALLY bad... and that i don't see it :P, oh, and that they don't adapt the adaptation into a game... that would kill it...

The fact its written by the original PoP (and sands of time) creator has renewed my faith.
However I do think that Sands of Time (maybe combined with its sequels) has a great plot for a movie, with only a little tweaking.
I just hope they keep the prince and farah close to their original characters...

I just saw Extinction, "Resident Evil in the desert" isn't even good enough to be a B-movie.

I still don't understand why they make movies based directly on games. Everyone already knows what's going to happen, and there's no way you can make the movie more exciting than the game.

Didn't they say in a previous post that the movie would be translocated into another era?

I like the Resident Wvil movies too, good entertainment, but after watching, I simply forget about it. Tis just bullshit they feel the need to take names from game franchises and create a different plot with them, Alice who? WTF!
But hmmm, don't want a PoP movie if it claims to be based on a game but follows a different plot, since that's what happens with most. Just call it Prince of Persia, but don't direct that it's in any way related to the games, what's the point if it isn't following the games plot?

After actually reading the article, I can now say that I have faith that the movie will turn out better than anyone hear thinks. From the interview, it sounds like it could be the next great action-adventure summer-blockbuster. The screenwriter (who happens to be the guy who created the Prince of Persia games) spent almost 2 years revising the script. The director isn't some low-life like Uwe Boll--it's Mike Newell who directed the excellent Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. I just think until it actually comes out that people should give these guys some slack. Who knows, you might even like the movie...

I don't get gamers, if somebody invited you to their house for some dinner, and as you walked through the door slapped you in your face, stole your wallet knocked you out and left you in abandoned warehouse naked, would you go over to their house for lunch because they say they will pick you up?
It is not that they don't follow the games letter by letter the games aren't exactly done with a cinematic story line. It is that they change whole thing and the only thing that resembles the games is the name. I mean if the trailer is good yea of course support the movie, but asking not to give this guy as much crap as we can as gamers is to much.
Each time they slap us in the face, then they do an interview to get some buzz we let them slide then SLAP! Punched in the nose all over again, so as much as I like supporting the video game industry, I will give them a chance when they can prove they can make something worth watching.

Except Extinction didn't adapt the game's storyline at all.
Which is why 95% of video game movies are terrible, because they make their own storylines.
