This could be good. Could being the operative word-as much as I enjoyed Rogue Leader, Rebel Strike's ground missions were a pain. But with someone to work with them and keep up the quality standards, it could be a great game. And it sounds like good timing, too. If they'd set it up to release after Brawl, it would probably sink for the lack of name recognition.

Well Factor 5 did make Lair, which was horrible, but it look so gorgeous, and they can fix the flying(that was terrible) and make this game work,or I dont know. All I know is that if Nintendo is making a Kid Icarus game for the Wii or DS, then they better make it a good one.

This got me thinking, whatever happen to that panzer dragon-ish game that was part of the "Capcom 5" during the GCN era? It was cancelled but looked like it would have made a good kid icarus game.

You're talking about Panzer Dragoon. I remember an Xbox version entitled Panzer Dragoon Orta that was released a few years ago but otherwise not much talk about a sequel.

Factor 5 = EPIC FAIL

As much as my interest in this game is high I have no desire to see Factor 5 develop something on the Wii.

I don't get it. What has Factor 5 failed at other than Lair? Most of their other titles range from good to excellent.

I really only thought rouge 64 was good. Space battles in the others were awful with that night vision, or just trying to tell where your enemy was w/o it. The ground missions stunk too and the less I have to hear from Julian the better. Lair was a massive disappointment, after the 2 prior sub par rouges on gc. This is just imo though.

Well, Factor 5's track record may be positive overall, but they do have some work to do to redeem their failure with Lair.

It was not just the controls that were the problem with Lair (although Lord knows, they reeked). There were a great many design decisions that were outright rotten. A few of them were:

1) Providing no options for analog controls
2) Creating a uniform color scheme that made enemies very difficult to see
3) Level designs where it was very difficult to determine who your allies and enemies were, or what the obscure objectives meant
4) Obnoxious startup screen that made you sit through a long THX trailer and Factor 5 logo presentation every time

Plus some funky camera work, weak story and characters, and several other design flaws. In short, Lair was a massive abortion of a game from top to bottom, good graphics and soundtrack notwithstanding.

The Factor 5 devs were hot for motion controls, so let's hope they can pull something together for the Wii that's better than Lair. They have some ground to recover if they want to repair their reputation.

Sounds Cool. I'm kinda worried though. Their Star Wars games were great, but Lair was kinda shit. In the way that diarrhea is kinda shit.

considering the previous effort with motion controls fpr Lair, i'm hoping they dont mess up this game with bad waggle controls...

I like how a dev makes one game that people rip on, and automatically they suck. yea so the ground missions stunk in rebel strike, boo hoo. their games STILL have the most replay value on my n64 and ngc.

If you want to complain about them, complain about the fact that they publicly burned it's bridge with Nintendo then came crawling back like a cheating bf to Nintendo when things didnt work as planned with Lair.

Personally, I know they can pull it off, and just like Retro, with Nintendo's supervision, they can do just fine. Everyone thinks that the controls will suck because of lair, but if you think about it, they have made the best flight experiences in the last two generations (besides ace combat). and considering they learned their lesson and wont do the "it's slow as it's a big dragon" excuse, i think it will be easy enough to install rogue squadron like flying controls (not in design and concept, but the fact they are tight and work).

I remember when it seemed an inevitability there would be a Super Kid Icarus for SNES and a Kid Icarus 64 for the N64. The fact is, the franchise has been dead since the Game Boy, a rare non-run-into-the-ground one for Nintendo. A revival after this long would be surprising, but maybe they'll try to justify it with some kind of special Wii control scheme.

For most people the memory of playing Kid Icarus is much better than the game itself, which is very dated compared to a lot of the other well-known franchises from the NES and onwards.
It is also a game that is hard to translate into 3D, much like Castlevania, and in my opinion any new Kid Icraus game should be a 2D platformer for the DS, again much like Castlevania.
You could stipulate that since the game is a basic platformer and as such is a very flexible basis on which to make a 3D game, there exists within that game world rules that do not translate well into 3D and if you do not bring those basic game ideas into a new game then there is little left of the original idea and it would only be a generic platformer with a bow and arrow.

I hear your not really controlling a cherub, but rather the wings on his back that cause the cherub to fly.

Pit is more appropriately a Seraph (warrior angel), not a Cherub (plural being Cherubim) which is a baby angel.

ah yes. it's soooo much fun to trash Lair.

have any of you guys actually *PLAYED Lair?

*silence*

i thought not.

don't get me wrong, i don't think Lair is a great game. i think it is a solid game, with forced motion controls. the only true problem with the motion control system, is that the 180 degree turn often gets confused with the "dash" move. actually controlling the dragon is quite fun once you get used to not using analog sticks.

the graphics are beautiful, yes. the story is very good, and the music is fantastic. if Factor 5 hadn't been so damn stubborn, and actually made the motion controls an *OPTION, and not force the issue, or use the motion controls sparingly (like only to dash, and do an attack or two), the game would have scored at *LEAST two points higher.

i give it about a 7/10.

you guys need to stop hopping on bandwagons, and actually start playing these games for *YOURSELVES. you miss out on a lot of good games that way.

some of you guys act as if Lair is representative of the Playstation 3 as a whole, and yet ignore it when quality games like Heavenly Sword, Ratchet and Clank Future, Warhawk, Unreal Tournament 3, and Uncharted grace the console.

yes, Lair wasn't everything it was hyped to be, but how many games actually *ARE? Factor 5 made a mistake in forcing the motion controls in Lair, but why hold that against them for ever? sheesh. cut them some frigging slack. everybody gets one. damn.

I think everyone rags on Lair because it was touted as the definitive amazing super-duper PS3 title that would save it and rise it into heaven etc. I've never played it, so I can't really speculate on its quality, but that's what it all sounds like. It was hyped to be one of the PS3's most well-known titles, and now it is. The problem is, most people don't like it, but it's still one of the console's best-known titles.
Also Ratchet & Clank = awesome in my book. Not enough to purchase a PS3, but awesome nevertheless.

Yes I DID play it, thank you, and was hideously disappointed. For some of the reasons I listed earlier in this thread.

And no, I don't believe Lair is some kind of referendum on the PS3. I'm very satisfied with the PS3 library now as it's shaping up. The sooner Lair disappears into the midden-heap of history along with other overhyped duds, the happier we'll all be.

a Kid Icarus revival wouldnt surprise me in the least. as long as they make it as similar to the original as possible ala Metroid which fit perfectly into the FPS genre. i would say Kid Icarus fits more into the 3rd Person genre. they should make it like Zelda in the sense of a healthy combination of fighting, puzzling, platforming, and good story.

Wiicycling is good for you AND the environment.

Why create anything original when you can make the same games over and over and over and over and over......
