Rumor: Video surfaces of XBLA GoldenEye 007
63
We'd like to direct your attention to the embedded YouTube video above. This video is somewhat special. Special, because it's rumored to have been uploaded by an employee from Rare showing off an in-house build of what GoldenEye 007 would look like as an Xbox Live Arcade game. You know, because there have been numerous rumors of an XBLA version being worked on. But the video is very controversial. Controversial, because nobody can be 100% sure that it's real or fake. The improved textures, framerate and gameplay lends itself to being real, but some say it could be a l33t programmer doing a ROM hack. You'll have to ponder this one and analyze the picture evidence. Real or fake? We dunno, but we thought this video was worth your attention. That is all. Good day.

i think its fake because i have a buddy at school who has loads of roms for the 64 and it looks exactly like the one he has except for the savepart also they could have pressed the guide button to prove it 2 seconds longer

this is totally fake, obviously the graphics r the same as the n64 and it looks xactly as the n64 version so if they were gonna make a newer version 4 xbla itd b better graphics and dif gameplay, but it would b sweet if they made this 4 xbla

Yeah it is not the same graphics, and it is not a clever hack achieve by using a ROM pack.

The walls are diffirent, ansd hte light is diffirent, and the graphics are diffirent, this video is real.
The headless scientist is a glitch, the game was two months from complete before it was put on hold, so fo course there would be some minor bugs here and there.
Also near the end of the video you clearly see the text box: Saving content. Please don't turn off your console
That's no retexture. You can't retexture like that
Also there isn't a snowball's chance that Microsoft could use the N64 graphics as they were. Concidering the work (and legal issues) necessary in making an N64 emulator to output 360-compatible graphics versus just redoing them all, they probably opted for the later.

aldim000, I was a bigtime PC gamer for a long time. Still, there is no denying how revolutionary Goldeneye was both in console FPS gaming and in FPS gaming in general.
Judging by the amount of damage enemies took to go down in that video, I'm guessing that it was played on a pretty low difficulty, so you can disregard how competent or incompetent the AI was, because for its time it was quite good when played on the better difficulty settings.
I can't even begin to describe the amount of innovation Goldeneye brought to the table. It was one of the first multiplayer FPS games to be successful that wasn't played in hyperspeed, and it really brought mission based story-mode to the mainstream for FPSs. Finally, there was more to it than "run through the linear level and shoot everything you see." The multiplayer options were also very customizable for its time.
Even the little things were great. When you shot a bad guy in the foot he hopped around and yelped in pain. Shoot him in the arm and he'd grab it and scream as the sleeve of his shirt became stained with blood. We take it for granted nowadays, but Goldeneye was one of the first games where guys actually reacted to getting shot (imagine that). Prior to that we were stuck with these guys who absorbed bullets number one through 14 without so much as flinching, only have bullet number 15 finally instantly kill them. And that's only the beginning.
No offense, but having admitted to not even playing the game and basing your opinions on a 2-minute video that may or may not even be real makes you come across as kind of a tool. Luckily, you are redeemed by the mere mention of Tribes, which instantly makes you awesome.

Wasn't there a remake being done as a Half-Life 2 mod or something by a rather determined person?

Then again, this could be the real deal, but most likely scrapped by RARE before being polished.

Well I loved my N64 back in the day but one thing is certain: The original Perfect Dark was a 100 times better than Goldeneye!!
It looked better, it played, it had more inovative weapons, an even better multiplayer mode etc
Why the heck don`t the guys from Rare just port Perfect Dark?! It`s their own IP!
Cheers

Nintendo did not Publish Perfect Dark, so Nintnedo would have no say in an XBLA version of that.

You cannot change the graphics that much, let alone add newer character models in a simple rom while upping the Framerate.
Alos, explain how he can get to the gadgets without going to the watch?
It's real cause in the video the person swtiched to the camera on the fly and took the picture. In the game (and all the roms) you would have to pause it to switch to gadgets.
