Well, we can't say for certain that it won't take your head off but if our experience with this Headcrab plush hat is any indication, then this isn't a real Chain Chomp but instead just a clever approximation of one, designed to be worn on one's head. Our favorite part of this cap is that the appropriately named Knitting Ninja has posted a how-to so those of you always on the lookout for new and exciting things to knit – and, if you guys are anything like us, then you totally are – can lovingly craft your own out of nothing but yarn and free time.
[Thanks, John]

I think this hat is very creative and fun. I'd love to have one or the pattern to make one.

Am I the only one who feels embarrassed when I see people actually wearing these things?

No, you're part of the narrow-minded majority, I'm afraid

Narrow-minded? No, I just know the difference between being reasonable and being COMPLETELY RIDICULOUS.

I'd wear it while snowboarding. But I would be kind embarrassed in any other situation. If that's what you mean.

If it's not a Peruvian beanie, I don't want it.

At what point are all these strangely crafted, video game related clothing and confections going to become "the norm" so we can stop reading about them here? I'm looking forward to that time.

I totally agree, I am so sick of shit like this. When are people going to stop wasting blog space on stupid posts about Etsy crap and start reporting some real news?

Am I the only one who thinks this girl resembles the Awkwardly and Tragically Stive Alive video from earlier today?

Whenever I see someone wearing clothes like this, I want to revoke their ability to pick their own outfits. Seriously, what is it with people and having to turn a facet of their identity into their defining characteristic as a human being. A guy doesn't like anime anymore, he is an "otaku" and wears a genki hat and a t-shirt with some kanji on it he doesn't understand. A person doesn't just play video-games anymore, they are a "gamer" and wear a chain-chomp hat and a t-shirt with some "witty" video-game phrase on it. These examples are on the smallest level of hobbies, but the trend continues on up with things like race, gender, sexual orientation, etc. Can't people just be people, instead of having to divide and sub-divide themselves into sub-cultures?

This is pretty much harmless. It's also handmade, which is always good. It's when clothing becomes a REAL status symbol that there's a problem. My sister's school is full of fairly rich children. If you don't have a designer label on all your clothing, you are shunned and on rare occasions, assaulted. No single article of clothing in these designer labels will run under $100-300.

Every time I see one of these posts I think "hot damn, I gotta get me one of those!"
And every time it's a self-made, non-commercially-produced item that I can't ever own without making myself.

Wow, people get all hung up over a hat!
Regardless, thanks for the kind comments, not so much thanks for the unkind ones. I asctually knit this while watching my roomie play Mario Galaxy. For fun. Took me an hour. :) I didn't expect every gaming blog on the internet to pick it up. That stuff just kind of happens!

Personally I loved the hat and thought it the work of a genius, coming up with an idea and a design like that. I was like..."that looks like a Chomp on her head. Are those teeth? Yea it IS teeth, it's a hat that looks like a Chomp attacking her head! Hahaha!" The broken chain is a masterful and humorous finishing touch on an otherwise superb creation.
I can only surmise the hat-sceptics are mostly just jealous, because they know they couldn't make anything coming close to this level of brilliance even if their life depended on it.
I wish I knew why people get their panties in a bind over the way other people dress. If I knew, I'd invent a pill that would make their problems go away. :P In the meantime here's some advice to those concerned: mind your own god damn business and stop being such judgemental self-righteous monkeyspankers, alright?!

Well you did a great job! I love the design. And thanks a lot for posting the instructions on how to make it as well. I sent them to a friend and as of last night he was half way through making one for me. He seems to have changed the design just a bit and is actually knitting the eyes into the hat.
I live in a pretty cold climate so it'll get a lot of use. ;)

Roto13, I totally agree with you on all your comments (and your avatar too. I love Indiana! xD
These days I've seen many people getting angry at reading posts about game-related crafty stuff, and you know, as fas as it's "game-related", it's OK to publish it. At least that's what I think.
This is a blog, not the standard serious online magazine that only talks about game launches and selling numbers. The good thing about blogs is that they're free to cover just about anything relating to games, and that, my friends, includes crafts.
You know, sometimes I think it's just envy - the ones who criticize more are those who can't knit, and they're jealous :P BTW I'm going to put this pattern in my project queue right now: I'm a gamer-knitter myself (and proud of it).
