Get your Patapon on for $20
Though we haven't had a look at the final packaging just yet, Sony has given us an excellent idea as to what Patapon's back-of-the-box bullet points might say:
- Intriguing and utterly unique blend of strategy and rhythm gameplay!
- From the creators of the critically acclaimed LocoRoco!
- Bizarre, yet entirely endearing art style!
- Costs a mere $19.99!
- "Excellent" -- Joystiq, 21 Jan. 2008

I don't own a PS3, but if this were on XBLA, I'd download the demo and try it. It looks neat at least...
The style looks kinda like "Night Game" (http://www.tigsource.com/articles/2007/09/17/night-game-potential-new-project-from-nifflas)
Neebs @ Jan 21st 2008 5:38PM
Pata Pata Patapon!
Jerk Face @ Jan 21st 2008 5:41PM
God DAMN it! Why do I find myself wanting a PSP all the time for? Life was so much simpler (and cheaper) when all of Sony's current systems sucked!
T3H WICKERMAN (TMNT DF) (BWF) @ Jan 21st 2008 5:48PM
Yeah I want to play this bad. That damn music gets in my head. I already got rid of one PSP though. I will probably just wait until a psp2 comes out and get the few games i want and system "on the cheap".
ThornedVenom @ Jan 21st 2008 8:08PM
QFT.
Somebody at Sony must have sold his soul to get the company's wheels running again.
ALH @ Jan 21st 2008 5:42PM
i want it, hard, but im not buying a PSP. Load times puts me off.
Hashbrown_Hunter @ Jan 21st 2008 11:41PM
What load times? Most games don't have the (over exaggerated) load times anymore as PSP developers are smarter now. Most load times are only around 10 seconds or less.
ALH @ Jan 22nd 2008 6:31AM
That is still quite a long time compared to the instant bootup of a DS- not wanting to sound like a massive anti-PSP nintendrone (i was one for years and grew a bit tired of it)- i've been spending a lot recently due to xmas etc and if i went out and bought a PSP now i'd never have the money to do anything else, so i need SOME excuse to say no ;_;
heyo007 @ Jan 21st 2008 5:53PM
Well, looks like they just made sure that they're getting my $20. For that price, I'm sold.
DemonGSides @ Jan 21st 2008 9:59PM
You so stole my avatar.
GRANTED @ Jan 21st 2008 6:02PM
there is no reason why this can't go on PSN and let me play it without a PSP, except for the fact that $20 is a bit high for a PSN game.
NukeAssault @ Jan 21st 2008 6:02PM
SOLD!
NeverSage @ Jan 21st 2008 6:05PM
My wallet just made a muffled scream of joy!
Soon you will be mine, my one, my only, my patapon
JodyAnthony (death by snoo-snoo) @ Jan 21st 2008 6:24PM
wouldn't care if it was $40, I'd still be buying it day one. LocoRoco was one of the best games I have ever played, and this one looks even better.
brandon_r87 @ Jan 22nd 2008 5:00AM
Seriously? I own Loco Roco, and it has the most boring, repetitive gameplay ever. I enjoyed it for the visuals and the music, but as far as a gameplay standpoint, it was boring and non-inventive once you made it past the first level. The only exception to that was the final boss fight, which was quite enjoyable, and even managed to fit a surprising little twist. I'm definitely picking up Patapon though, just for the visuals and music, but hopefully the rhythm gameplay is as interesting as it sounds.
bAssackwards @ Jan 21st 2008 6:41PM
Oh snap! Twenty bucks, SOLD!
JK ING @ Jan 21st 2008 6:45PM
Even at $20 dollars, no one is going to buy it? How sad. Screw PSN.
Come on people!!! It's worth buying a PSP for. (PSP games are getting better)
Sony! You should have made Patapon a FPS. because that's the only type of game that gamers are willing to buy nowadays.
Here we go, another Zack & Wiki.
Slaziman @ Jan 21st 2008 6:52PM
LOLWTF this game was already day one buy and this just sweetens the deal.
NACHO @ Jan 21st 2008 6:54PM
i was on the edge, but for $20, i'm sold (even tho i'm wondering, is it so bad that it might bomb at regular price?)
Lard @ Jan 21st 2008 6:54PM
There's no excuse not to buy this game if you own a PSP.
Especially at that price.
Lard @ Jan 21st 2008 6:57PM
@NACHO
No, I'm hoping they're keeping the price low to entice people who are on the fence to try a game they wouldn't normally play.
ShortFuse @ Jan 21st 2008 7:00PM
I've been playing the JPN version. It's sooooo good, but I can't understand Japanese and so, can't customize my little fighters. I can't wait for the US release.
And by the way, if you store the game on your memory card the load times are near-non-existant with a maximum of 2 seconds.
brandon_r87 @ Jan 22nd 2008 5:07AM
Hmmm... Wonder who pirated it?
Jay @ Jan 21st 2008 7:23PM
Double that then add 10 bucks and you have the UK price....
But seriously, I have seen the videos, downloaded the screenshots and read the articles. I have no idea whatsoever what's going on - but I still want it. Bad.
Shame it crashed and burned in Japan (just 30k sold in its first three weeks, in a land of 8m+ PSPs).
GRANTED @ Jan 22nd 2008 10:29AM
well its not a flight simulator or a jrpg so what's the point of even releasing it in japan.
Dustin @ Jan 21st 2008 8:07PM
Wow... I was already sold on this game, but now at $20 it's a must have, and one I'll be telling all of my not-so-savvy friends to buy. It's only twenty bucks!
ThornedVenom @ Jan 21st 2008 8:09PM
Do..... want....
Dalton Prather @ Jan 21st 2008 8:09PM
Thank god something to play for my PSP.
chispito @ Jan 21st 2008 8:33PM
This and LR are the only things that have ever even tempted me to buy a PSP. And this is a very serious temptation, to be sure.
mccomber @ Jan 21st 2008 9:15PM
Well President Jackson, we had some good times, but I think this is where we part ways...
Keiichi @ Jan 21st 2008 9:16PM
US Price ≠ European Price
European Price = €45 ($66)
UK Price = £30 ($60)
Just watch me go import this, Sony. You bitches can go to hell.
Silver R. Wolfe @ Jan 21st 2008 10:28PM
I already pre-purchased it from Gamestop when they had it up for $20 on the 2nd! Yay that wasn't a typo. :)
Hashbrown_Hunter @ Jan 21st 2008 11:42PM
First, I loved my PSP. Then, I loved LocoRoco. Now, I love Patapon.
God Bless Japan!
