A theoretical physicist named "Gordon" called up the conspiracy wonks at Coast to Coast AM to tell 'em all about a mysterious government agent – a "G-Man" if you will – that he keeps seeing around. We don't want to spoil too much so hit up the audio embedded after the break and kids, take notes.
This is how you do a crank call. Now if only "Alyx" would call
Dr. Cooper Lawrence's show and ask what's up with that strong but silent boy she knows.
[Thanks, Colin]

Is this a real talk show?? Or is this staged? Either way, it's pretty funny...
If it's real, you'd think a conspiracy theorist would be into video games, and one of the most popular video games known to man...
colin @ Jan 21st 2008 11:45PM
real talk show, people talk about supernatural occurences, conspiracy theories, etc. its actually a pretty good program if its the middle of the night and you are on a long drive.
samfish @ Jan 21st 2008 11:54PM
I love the show, even though you kinda have to be dedicated to find it on the airwaves these days.
It's filled my head with so many conspiracy theories and supernatural and mysterious bits of information that I had no choice but to forget math in order to remember it all!

Coast-To-Coast AM just isn't the same without Art Bell behind the mic.

Tool - Faaip De Oiad
Check the final track on their Lateralus album for an artistic and intense abbreviation of this famous and controversial call.

That is AWESOME! What's the story behind that? I don't believe it but I'm still intrigued!
wootman @ Jan 22nd 2008 2:15PM
any more news on what the hell that was?

Wow... how strange. I was just on GameTrailers to watch the Days of Ruin review, and saw this and checked it out... pretty funny, but dry. My favorite thing about it is the end, when the host comments on how amazing Portal technology sounds...
T3H WICKERMAN (TMNT DF) (BWF) @ Jan 21st 2008 11:50PM
That was a pretty good bit. Loved the Dr. Breen flash. Yeah its not the same without Art Bell (but we always have Prey to remember the good times)
bender @ Jan 21st 2008 11:54PM
What is there e-mail address. I want to tell them that he had been duped.
jopojelly @ Jan 22nd 2008 12:06AM
Why? Every single call they get is a prank, either that or a crazy person.
bender @ Jan 22nd 2008 12:15AM
haha.... so true
Pattmyn @ Jan 22nd 2008 12:00AM
Anybody know what date that aired on? Trying to see if it's legit or not.

This show is on late at night, just browse through your AM airwaves manually and you will find it.
That is a great prank; remember kids, CONFIDENCE is key in pranks.
Shignami @ Jan 22nd 2008 12:13AM
"Portal technology"?
Its "Anomalous Materials" you scrub.
E.J. @ Jan 22nd 2008 4:48AM
"We're in competition with another company."
Thanks for playing.
wickedpheonix @ Jan 22nd 2008 7:45AM
lol Shignami, did you even play HL1, and lol E.J., did you play Portal?
In HL1 yes he works IN anomalous materials but the actual project that he was working on was a portal to another world/dimension, which turned out to be the Xen border world.
And in Portal, Aperture Science says that they keep losing contracts to Black Mesa, so naturally Black Mesa is competing with Aperture Science for contracts like these.
unless you were both being sarcastic in which case.... ouch X( but anyways yeah nice prank call, one of the better ones but for some reason it didn't crack me up, so I still like the Tom Mabe prank call better (telemarketer calls a murder scene).
CharleyTony @ Jan 22nd 2008 12:36AM
really cool ! Im a fan of that show but I cant listen to it all the time ,, great joke /...
CharleyTony @ Jan 22nd 2008 12:41AM
gamers SHOULD know art bell since he did voice work in PREY .. he is the radio guy talking about paranormal stuff,,,, talk about art imitating life !
Cronjob @ Jan 22nd 2008 2:19AM
You mean Art imitating life.
dude @ Jan 22nd 2008 2:32AM
You mean life imitating art.
NukeAssault @ Jan 22nd 2008 1:10AM
EPIC!
Cronjob @ Jan 22nd 2008 1:38AM
Whether this is real or not? Are you joking me? How is there anyone alive who hasn't heard of Art Bell or Coast to Coast AM? The show has only been broadcasting seven days a week, five hours a day for more than 20 years, across something like 600 affiliates, interviewed people from physicists to John Draper (Capn' Crunch), Kevin Mitnick and been referenced in shows and movies like X-Files and Outer Limits.
Not to mention, Art Bell fucking WROTE the book that the 2004 movie "The Day After Tomorrow" is based on.
Even skeptics like myself used to enjoy spending five hours a night listening to the crackpots call in "on the wild line, west of the rockies..!" and the crackpot pseudoscientist guests. And the best part is that you could always tell that Art, while courteous and open to guests and callers, pretty much thought they were all fucking nuts.
After he handed the show to George Noorey it all went downhill though. Completely unlistenable. Art had a fantastic radio voice and Noorey is just bland and puts you to sleep. Not to mention, he rarely seems to seirously question anyone. You could tell him you are jesus christ and you're raising an army of zombies to fight off the heathens and he wouldn't bat an eye at your sincerity.
But seriously... if you don't have a clue what Coast to Coast AM is, you need to turn off your TV and stop watching re-runs of Sister Sister or whatever other brain-numbing sit-com crap is rotting your brain and turn on a little talk radio some time. I mean, good god. what's next? "Who is this Jack Nicholson guy? Is he a real person? What are these animals that you used to have that pulled around your motorless carriages?!"
drsashamd @ Jan 22nd 2008 1:49AM
How can you say anything on TV "rots your brain" and not include this crap as well? Seriously, take some Ritalin and calm down.
I've never heard of the guy or the show until I saw this. Does this mean I "live under a rock"? No. It just means that I have a life that doesn't involve me listening to stupid and pointless talk radio at horrible times of the day.
Markusdragon @ Jan 22nd 2008 9:19AM
I'm happy as it is having The (sorry, A) Daily Show, The Colbert Report, Have I Got News for You, and QI rot my brain, rather than some nutjob conspiracy phone-in, if it's all right by you.
Never heard of Coast to Coast AM, before. Probably never will again.
Rocketboy @ Jan 22nd 2008 9:59AM
George Noorey really ruined the show. He's as much of a dolt as, what was her name, Barbara something, who would guest host the show. One time someone called up with the 'virus' storyline from DBZ. Pretty darn funny. Art's the only one who had the guts to ban people from the show when they turned out to be total wackjobs (different from the regular wackjobs that called). Kreskin is probably one of the most famous bans he's ever done.
[.sm0ke.] @ Jan 22nd 2008 1:52AM
Except Gordon Freeman never talks...
Neowyrm @ Jan 22nd 2008 8:29AM
How true, how true. I thought this was going to be "We've got Gordon from Seattle on the line, hello!"
(silence.)
DarkNessBear @ Jan 22nd 2008 2:15AM
I do listen to this show during late nights. Some creepy stuff sometimes. But this is absolutely hysterical! I love that, "Have you told anyone about this" "well I don't really talk...to anyone..."
Hehehehe.
Wren @ Jan 22nd 2008 4:17AM
it would be funnier with Art Bell :( Noorey is such a prat. I make my friend screen the show for me to tell me if its worth listening to anymore. The best part about Art is that he'd realize they were idiots and just egg them on to see how far they'd go.
*reminices*
god "portal technology, just like in Contact!"
please die Noorey.

LiquidFox @ Jan 22nd 2008 2:44PM
Oh man that's great. I was in a cab last night and the cabby was listening to the show at about 12:00 am eastern and I heard this segment.
I literally started busting my gut when he said he was working on Portal Technology! I didn't think this would get any media time besides the radio show but man was that funny.
I don't think the radio personality can be blamed for believing him though, you should hear the crackpots that call into the show.
KiraXD @ Jan 22nd 2008 11:32PM
portal technology.. lmao.. that so full of win... awesome, just awesome
