Still playing with a couple of friends, but I don't subscribe. I'll have to see whether it's worth it or not, now that there may actually be something to subscribe for.

HGL might not be D2 but it's still a lot of fun on the slaughtering thousands of monsters front.

I stopped caring about this game the second I read it was going to be subscription based. I wouldn't buy this game even if it was the only game available on the market since I don't like greedy game developers holding players hostage.

If they want to sell an expansion, FINE. Slap it in a box and put a price tag on it. I'll gladly pay, if it's worth paying for. But I won't be extorted out of $10 every month just to kill a few extra new types of monsters, no way.

I think that the problem with Hellgate is that there is an expansion that is in danger of being crushed by a dwarf.

I started playing Hellgate because I was hoping for something to tide me over till D3. Then I stumbled across the Mythos beta, Flagship's free-to-be game that is currently under development and it completely stole me away from Hellgate. Hellgate's loot system just doesn't have the addictive qualities that Mythos does. Mythos actually feels like you're playing Diablo 2 but with a new coat of paint and fresh items and character classes. It has all the satisfying click-fest addictive treasure hunting qualities that I was hoping to find in Hellgate. So in short, for D2 fans; which i think are a large percentage of the people that gave Hellgate a shot; check out Mythos instead! (I have some beta invites to hand out - respond to this post if you want one!)

I've been trying to get 2 Mythos invites for a while now, but I have a tragically low tolerance for the lengths required. Would appreciate some assistance.

What's funny is that the only reason I've heard of Mythos is from in-game advertising in Hellgate.

My girlfriend got me Tabula Rasa instead of Hellgate for x-mas. Needless to say, I was pissed, and haven't played either as a result.

I was planning on getting Hellgate after patches stabilized it a lot and the price went down. I had a shitload of fun with the beta.

Mythos does look pretty badass, though.

You should be happy you got anything for Christmas with that attitude. Actually, you should be happy you even have a girlfriend. She bought you a gift, but it wasn't what you wanted, so you got pissed. Wow. Are you like 5 years old? Did you throw a temper tantrum too?

Sorry, I'm just amazed by all the things that reaction says about you.

I was involved with the betas for both. Tabula Rasa is fun until you get to a decent level. Then it's the same shit you've been doing the whole time except more tedious. Plus, it costs money to play.

I had a lot more fun with Hellgate; it felt more like I was actually playing, and the RPG elements were much more in depth. Graphically it was awesome as well.

I was actually thinking about picking Hellgate up just to check it out. D2 was a great game, but I dunno. I figured I'd wait until they did the needed polishing. Perhaps I'll give Mythos a look.

I don't think I was alone when I fired up the game and felt the crushing, ten-ton weight of disappointment fling out from the computer monitor and hit me square in the chest, propelling me at tremendous speed toward the wall opposite my computer.

With all due respect to the dev team, they outdid themselves... ten years ago with Diablo 2. That game had cohesion and direction; Hellgate is unfocused and confused. A great example is how a post-release patch changed the way in which every NPC in the game spoke to the player, from incredibly over-the-top sillyness to things like "hello" and "goodbye". That is no small thing to change your mind about, especially after the game hits stores. It helps to prove the game had a grievous lack of even basic direction. It didn't hold my interest, and probably never will. Try again, Flagship. Start over and try again.

I might be interested in Hellgate, except for the small detail of it not being available for my Mac Pro tower. Which is why I'm still rockin' World of Warcraft. But, from what I've heard, they should have spend more time developing the game and not rode the coat tails of being "made by the people who made Diablo". Besides the next great MMO won't be someone trying to reinvent a better, slightly different Warcraft, it will be something else entirely.

I feel bad for anyone that is still playing this. I tried the demo, and immediately ran back into the warm glow of Diablo II.

I beta tested it and liked it a lot. Then I pre-ordered it and brought it home. I played it for a few nights, but it just seemed buggy and I dunno...not right. World of Warcraft ended up dragging me back in, but then on Friday night I was at a video game center near my house(I guess it's you could call it a cyber cafe) and I ended up logging into my account and playing for over 2 hours. I don't know if the patches had made things better or what but I really enjoyed myself and might be playing a couple nights a week until I beat it, but I really don't think I am going to subscribe. Maybe.

I was a beta tester for both, bought the founder's pack for Hellgate and after beating it kinda sorta benched it since then. That was like early December and I've been waiting for a content patch ever since.

It's definitely a fun game, as long as you go into it knowing that it isn't a replacement for WoW or pretty much any other MMO. While it's technically online and multiplayer and people from around the world can play it, it's really a single-player experience and should be played (and paid for) as such.

I thought it would replace an actual MMO and I was wrong and disappointed, but if you play it for what it really is intended to be -- single-player -- then you'll enjoy it a lot as I did.

So yes, I'm pumped for the promised and long awaited patch. A few more of these larger patches and I think it'll be the game that we all hoped for at release.

I'm playing HGL (free) with a friend and I'm having tons of fun with it. I was never a big D2 but my buddy was and he's kinda making it easy for me to get into since I don't play these types much; however, I am having fun and I have noticed no bugs. :D
