the best demo of 2007 told me that spending my money on the burnout paradise is a stupid decision...
I'll just keep playing #3 (That I own, not from xbl downloads)
NATO_Duke @ Jan 21st 2008 9:43AM
Wow - you own it, not from XBL. OMG you is teh coolest!
Wilhelm @ Jan 21st 2008 10:13PM
NATO... you fail.
Poisoned Al @ Jan 21st 2008 8:09AM
Well I pre-ordered it already. Well I had credit on my Blockbuster card so what the hell? I do love sandbox games so I don't think I'll go too far wrong with this.
xGeneral DEATHx @ Jan 21st 2008 8:18AM
I was a bit skeptical about the "non-linear" approach that this game has taken, but Free Burning with a friend was a pretty awesome option...even if my friend did keep taking me down like an ass. This is an easy purchase decision, but the only question now is this:
360 version or PS3 version? Both seemed nearly identical to me.
SoxFan13 @ Jan 21st 2008 8:31AM
It pains me to say it because I only have the 360, but I've heard a lot of praise for the PS3 version over the 360 one.
Either way, I'll be picking it up. I know these Joystiq guys didn't seem to like the demo, but I loved it.
Kevin @ Jan 21st 2008 9:24AM
Bismuth?
PeacefulOutrage @ Jan 21st 2008 9:33AM
I could tell by looking at the textures what system was the lead platform. Picking this one up this week (hopefully tomorrow). Ever since Burnout 3 I have been hoping for LAN play and the same options for local games as online ones (since EA likes canning games and the service sucks -- why another agreement just to play online!).
xGeneral DEATHx @ Jan 21st 2008 10:11AM
LOL @ Kevin's comment. Just FYI...it's irrelevant now...Chuck Norris destroyed the periodic table because he only recognizes the Element of Surprise.
Also, I think I'll go with the 360 version, mainly because most of my friends own a 360 and no PS3...gaming with the two that do own a PS3 would probably not happen as often. Also: 'Cheevments for the 'cheevment whores whose profiles are on my 360...and for my own whoring.
JKTrix @ Jan 21st 2008 8:46AM
Hello, Advance Wars.
anOne @ Jan 21st 2008 8:33AM
This week marks something else thats new for me:
No More Burnout!
thanks sandbox! I hated u in NFS: Underground 2, and you have yet to impress me with your lack of re-starting races and overall un-fun driving to races!
NO LOADING FTL!!!!!
Chris @ Jan 21st 2008 8:37AM
I think this will be a No More Heroes week for me.
J.Goodwin @ Jan 21st 2008 8:48AM
Paradigm shifting?
The paradigm on racing games done already shifted cowboy. It shifted when much-maligned Atari released Test Drive Unlimited.
Worst Review Ever @ Jan 21st 2008 10:14AM
Cowboy? The cowboy paradigm shifted in 1988 after the first time that John McClane said "Yipi ki yay mother fucker!"
J.Goodwin @ Jan 21st 2008 10:37AM
Yeah, it probably did. My sense of humour got pretty well drained over the weekend, so I'm running a few quarts low.
waynski1457 @ Jan 21st 2008 8:52AM
its a very hard to pick week for me between no more heroes and advance wars: days of ruin (i hated the burnout demo...). and the sad part is i cant afford them both this week damnit... i think ill go for nmh tho cuz aw's online looks to keep me occupied forever...
...or at least until brawl comes out.
Vandor @ Jan 21st 2008 9:03AM
One Piece Limited Adventure?
If this is a joke, well done, I had a laugh.
If not, isn't this game named UNlimited Adventure?
Tune in next week for "Really Small Ocean" and "Super Mario Room" :)
Shadow El ( NDF - Zola Ring ) @ Jan 21st 2008 9:07AM
No More Heroes? I thought that comes out in February...
Not that it's a problem.
Sean @ Jan 21st 2008 9:08AM
Burnout Paradise is -hardly- paradigm shifting. At the bare minimum, they've decided to follow all other genres that have done so, into the black hole known as Sandbox gaming. Sure you have 200+ miles of road to explore, but if you want to redo a race you have to go back to the beginning manually (bad, bad usability there), and as much as I like the idea of racing friends over the web and doing "free burning" none of the new game modes offset the loss of crash party. Which I'm sure many other Burnout fans will agree was one of the best multiplayer party modes seen in a long time.
And honestly if I wanted to play another variation of NFS Underground I'd go play that. Sandbox is great for the first hour, then it gets dull exponentially, due to frustration of having to navigate back to where you were to continue what you were doing.
ViagraFiend @ Jan 21st 2008 10:58AM
Yep. No crash mode - no buy. Maybe next time.
Evan @ Jan 21st 2008 4:25PM
Agreed... sandbox is annoying.
Driving (or running, depending on the game) to the next starting point seems to me to be a mechanism to draw out the number of hours a game takes. What's next, are they going to have to make me wait while my character pumps gas and takes a dump? Yes, it's more immersive, but it's boring and I don't have time to spend all day doing mundane virtual tasks.
That said, I played the downloadable demo. Some aspects were a lot of fun, but I'm going pass on the game overall.
Kevin @ Jan 21st 2008 9:23AM
Advance Wars! Advance wars advance wars. Advance? Wars! Advance Wars.
samfish @ Jan 21st 2008 9:24AM
You highlight Burnout over No More Heroes?
Shame on you.
NMH is a Suda game. It needs all the damn promotion it can get, if nothing else.
As for me, I'll be buying it next week, when I gets paid again.
PhrawzT @ Jan 21st 2008 9:35AM
I'm looking forward to Burnout. I loved the open driving in NFS: Underground and Test Drive Unlimited.
Rocketboy @ Jan 21st 2008 10:04AM
Edit: New Games This Week - No More Heroes Edition...
OMGZ! You can CRASH YOUR CAR in BURNOUT! WOWZA!
Poisoned Al @ Jan 21st 2008 4:29PM
OMGZ! Random button (and waggle) masher that's been beaten to an inch of it's life with an ugly stick.
Sheesh.
Organic_Shadow @ Jan 21st 2008 10:15AM
I think this is the first time Joystiq's put the PS3 version of a multiplat in front of the 360 box in their article image.
mark @ Jan 21st 2008 10:57AM
yeah i was wondering about that too
KushielsScion007 @ Jan 21st 2008 11:09AM
The poor bastard system needs all the help it can get...
Blue_Falcon @ Jan 21st 2008 10:20AM
No More Heroes? Definitely. I haven't finished SMG yet (which I bought a few weeks ago) but I'll still buy the game this week.
Days of Ruin? Check. Dunno if I'll buy it this week, but it's been months since my DS has gotten some love.
Endless Ocean? Maybe. The reviews for it seem to be varied. I'm interested though...
Jeff @ Jan 21st 2008 10:24AM
Blah. I've been getting 1 game every two weeks for a couple of months now.
Life sucks. The only solace I have in sight is the Assassins Creed PC port... which god knows will be buggy as hell with terrible performance. Plus, I don't like it too much when I play at friends' houses. And Turok. Blah.
luxera @ Jan 21st 2008 10:55AM
No More Heroes > Burnout "anything".
KushielsScion007 @ Jan 21st 2008 11:14AM
As for Burnout I was all amped to get this game but now I'm on the fence. I've got 3 major problems with it.
1) You can't restart races easily.
2) No Local Multiplayer (Splitscreen)
3) No Crash Mode
Its sad really since the game has all these cool NEW awesome features. Yet why couldn't they have just simply KEPT the good features from the old versions?
Anyways Joystiq loses major points for not seeing that its clearly No More Heroes Edition. Looking forward to that and Endless Ocean.
umm....hello??? @ Jan 21st 2008 1:17PM
what?? I guess I haven't been keeping up to date with this...I was going to get this for my 360 (more online friends)...
however,
no splitscreen = no buy
the same stupid thing that prevented me from buying MotorStorm--although I did rent it for one week. guess I can save myself $60 and spend more time playing Halo3.
PhrawzT @ Jan 21st 2008 2:44PM
What?? No splitscreen or crash mode? I guess I haven't been paying enough attention to this game. Crash mode was the best.
Knoxximus @ Jan 21st 2008 11:33AM
Yep, should be No More Heroes edition. I think I'm gonna stick with Burnout Revenge. But watch EA pull the dick move and pull online support for Revenge riiiiight abouuuuuut.....NOW.
Toothpick Guy @ Jan 21st 2008 11:53AM
I personally liked the Burnout Paradise demo (aside from the obnoxious DJ that feels he has to STOP TIME to tell you how to use a map). Free burn does get old after a while, but that's what events are for. I have to say, I will miss the split-screen. Hopefully they'll bring that back next Burnout. Overall, most review scores I've read have been positive. I'm looking forward to it.
boxmyth @ Jan 21st 2008 12:35PM
This Burnout series fan is all over the Paradise evolution of crashing things into each other.
Crash Get!
xGeneral DEATHx @ Jan 21st 2008 2:51PM
Man...I don't know what the F*** you just said, kid...but you special, man...you reached out...and touched a brotha's heart.
Rick wilson @ Jan 21st 2008 2:49PM
Burnout - If I can't do that awesome car is upside down, smashed to pieces explosion to kill the guy behind me move then I don't like the game as much as I could... and no retry on races suck, I liked burnout because it went AWAY from reality, not towards it.
tristan @ Jan 21st 2008 3:24PM
now i'm confused,?? is No more Heros coming out tomorrow or Wednesday? because i've tried to get games on the "Release day" and they tell me thats the shipping day??? So it says 1/22/08 but won't be available until 1/23/08
Wonderwes @ Jan 21st 2008 3:37PM
Very disappointed in how they messed up the Burnout formula. If you played Burnout 3 or Revenge, you will agree. I will not buy this. I think we will see when user reviews get posted after a few weeks, how this game is nowhere near to the fun experience of the previous games.
Just what I wanted in a game, to look for street sign cross intersections on where to drive on a track.
Michael K. @ Jan 21st 2008 3:49PM
The title for this post should be "No More Heroes Edition" not "some crappy race game edition"
Noxat @ Jan 21st 2008 5:05PM
The demo didn't make a good first impression but it grew on me, flaws and all. Free burning with a friend online is incredibly fun. I'll probably pick up a copy tomorrow.
vidGuy @ Jan 22nd 2008 12:49AM
Put another one for NMH > Burnout.
