Well, this is a surprise. Though it seemed like an unstoppable juggernaut of multiplayer dominance, it appears that Halo 3 has been ousted from the top of the Xbox Live activity chart by Infinity Ward's Call of Duty 4. The rest of the top 5 for last week was rounded out by Guitar Hero III, Gears of War and Rock Band.
We have to admit it: We're pretty impressed. Though, now that we think about it, it kind of makes sense. We have been hearing a lot more chatter about friends crawling up the CoD 4 ranks than getting together Halo games as of late. It's not like you can make too much of it after one week, but it's definitely something we're keeping an eye on. What about you? Which one's still getting your gaming minutes?

I like Halo better. To me COD4 felt like same-old same-old, yet Halo is different and unique. The new maps were fun as well. After I finished COD, I realized it was really no different than games I played in the early millenium, give or take the rpg system and reward system. Halo has that feeling of "THIS IS WHY I BOUGHT AN XBOX 360!!!" Had I known it would have been as similar as past games, I would have bought it for my PC.

I haven't even touched Halo 3 since COD4 came out (except for a day when Live was all fu*ked up and I wanted to play Co-Op)....

After COD4 came out, I have barely touched H3...and my friends have done the same....this is no surprise and congratulations Infinity Ward...keep up the great work!

I'm pretty sure I haven't played H3 since CoD4 came out. It simply fits my play style better.

This is just more proof that Halo 3 didn't deserve any of those perfect '10' review scores it received!

I thought everyone was against war games a few months back? Now war games are the shit and the halo is the hated.
Don't have COD4 myself. I'm not into that kind of game

This doesn't really make sense to me... When I play CoD4, I can't play it longer than an hour because it's nothing but the same-old, same-old. I can play Halo 3 for hours on end because of Forge, Matchmaking, and Campaign... I dunno, I like CoD4, but compared to Halo 3 it just seems like the only thing that changes is which of the 5 maps that appear online that you play on... I dunno, I just really like both games, but one pulls ahead of the other.

A couple of reasons why I was playing way more COD4 than Halo 3:
1. Even though my team might lose, I still get individual kudos and rank advancement for my personal performance.
2. Less annoying people online (read: less annoying teenagers)

there it is, Halo 3 has sucked, is sucking, and will continue to suck. I think bungie did this on purpose so that they might let halo out of the Microsoft bind.
"I honestly think H3's campaign is better, but I have yet to play CoD4 MP, so I can't make a final judgment on that aspect yet."

Has anyone realized that this does not mean COD4 MP > Halo 3 MP necessarily? What is does mean is that more unique users are logged into Xbox Live and have had COD4 running(MP or Campaign, main menu, etc.). It does not mean more people are playing COD4 matchmaking than Halo 3 matchmaking! This is very obvious if you look at the in-game statistics for # of players online in both games. Halo 3 always has more people playing. This is rather obvious because Assassin's Creed and Mass Effect are on the list and those do not have mp components. Also, it could be that the same 400,000 people are playing Halo 3 every night as opposed to 100,000 different people in the COD4 playlists every night.

I'm pretty active on both. A few of my friends won't touch Halo anymore after COD, but they're two completely different experiences to me.

I'm getting a bit tired of Halo... I really enjoyed cod4 but unfortunately I am always playing online with guests, and until cod4 allows guests, I'll stick to halo.

Everyone that I know who was a huge Halo fan has completely bailed on Halo and now plays COD4. However, I'm starting to hear those murmurings about how it's getting old already.

Fuck yeah. COD rules, H3 drools. Seriously. Anyone who likes H3 is gay.

I like the both of 'em, but I prefer H3 over COD4. I am so tired of the stupid grenade spam that goes on in COD4. I am getting killed by more randomly thrown grenades in COD4 than I did in any of the Halo franchise. This doesn't even mention the wussy perk of dropping a grenade because you get killed. It's just junk. I refuse to use it because it's such cowardly BS.
I also think that although the COD4 maps are gorgeous looking, they all have the exact same feel that gets very repetitive (to me). I like the air strikes, uav and friendly chopper benefits that come up in COD4. That is way cool when you can bring in some support or set up a bombing run taking out the entire opposing force, but I like getting into the vehicles and feeding the enemies my bumper.
They are two different beasts cut from the same cloth. Although both are born of the FPS genre, one is stealthy and semi-realistic portrayal of combat while the other is run-and-gun intensity where everyone leaps into the fray to be victorious.
I like them both and play both frequently, but make mine HALO 3.
Oddly, I remember a game called Gears of War that came along and everyone dogged on HALO 2 for a while, because GOW was "so great". Well, once the newness and polish rubbed off of GOW, it was evident that there wasn't enough variety to hold everyone's interest. The masses moved back to HALO 2. I wonder if that will be the case with COD4 and H3.
