FCC filing reveals Ceramic White PS3 for US

Barring an unforeseen and highly regrettable change of plans, it would seem the 40GB Ceramic White PlayStation 3, first launched in Japan during November of last year, may be headed to US shores and stores. The information comes from an FCC filing concerning the fairer model, signaling the possible arrival of choice for those unsatisfied with the standard black monolith. Since the Ceramic White model included a Dual Shock 3 controller, it seems likely that the Sixaxis successor will arrive at the same (currently unknown) time.

As Sony hasn't made any announcements regarding further PS3 SKUs, we're awaiting official comment and will update this post accordingly.

Sony responds: "As you may know, there are many FCC filings like this each year. We haven't made any announcements about upcoming PS3 plans, but are comfortable with our current two sku strategy. We are continually evaluating the market trends and consumer input to determine the appropriate PS3 models for our territory. "

Okay, I had a friend tell me he was likely going to import a white one. Now I can just tell him to wait.

Who knew, the PSP and PS2 color variants never came stateside until recently.

White is so 2003. Apple totally over-did white and it's just not that cool anymore. I think the original black and chrome look for the PS3 is still the best.

Well, I think you better have a word with EVERY COMPUTER MANUFACTURER in the last 20 years and tell them they MAY have overdone it with the black computers... Black is always in style and always looks best in an entertainment system, IMO. I hate the fact that the Wii and original 360 launched in white. They don't match any other piece of hardware in my entertainment center. I've since replaced my original 360 with an Elite, but the Wii is still white :(

If this model comes with a Rumble controller, I might, MIGHT, think about buying it. The only reason I never bought a ps3 was the lack of rumble. Looks like Sony is making some positive strides. Finally.

I never thought anyone cared about rumble so much. I can take it or leave it. Some games use it well, but most of the time it's useless.

I'm with you, Cardinal. Most of the times I disable it. There is no immersion to it, it simply cues up the action happening on the screen.

Now, once they offer true force feedback (example, an analog stick that ACTUALLY moves in real life to mimmick recoil and fuck with your aim... completely possible nowadays), I'll be on board instantly.

yea i dont really miss rumble all that much. i mean my Wii has it and i barely notice it. the only thing i miss rumble for on the PS3 is to be able to know when im getting shot in games faster. but now there are on screen indicators as well as surround sound that even lets me know which direction im getting shot from. i mean ill still buy a DS3 when it drops but rumble isnt really all that important to me.

The Wii is "Suffering" (not really) from forced scarsity, they have the sales, there isn't stock sitting on shelves. But a black one would be totally cool.

As for the boost in sales, it'll happen, but it isn't going to be good, it's still going to cost $600 for the 80gb, regardless of color.

So, according to your logic, the DS Lite and all the GameBoy system b4 it showed Nintendo's "desperation" too eh?

And if desperate is selling 9 million+ systems at a price higher than the other competing systems, well then so be it.

FYI the PS2 which has sold over 120 million+ and counting...sold around the SAME as the "desperate" PS3 in it's 1st year.

i imported a white dualshock 3, white is a much better color for the ps3 in general. To bad the rumble is weak as shit but it has a MUCH nicer weight to it now. $60 on play-asia.com

There's also rumors of a price drop down to $299 by the end of January. If this is true then this should start to dip into some of those lost Wii sales.

If this is true then being just $50 more but offering way more features along with a killer line-up for 2008 is a perfect recipe for selling more PS3s.

I'd consider the white if it weren't for the fact that I have the ability to play what's left of my PS2 library.
