Guitar Hero III Wii replacement discs shipping next month
Just four short months after a faulty version of Guitar Hero III was released on Wii, Activision will be ready to start shipping out replacement copies in February. Though Wii owners will have been toiling with mono sound until that point, they'll finally be able to experience the bone-crunching intensity of two separate channels of audio slamming into them at whatever volume level their moms have deemed acceptable. The happy news was apparently related to customers in an email Activision recently sent out to affected customers, in which it said it "expected" to have new discs ready next month. If you still haven't readied yourself for the stereo onslaught, you can still register for your own replacement copy of the game right here.

as far as I hear, not from comments but from the game, its mono x 2, meaning, it's single channel put through both Left and Right speakers, which is stereo, but that's quite old. true stereo, dual channel out of both.. come on now.
i havent played one second after i first noticed this off audio and then looked it up online. replacement is nice.. its not like there is a shortage of games out for the time being..
NO MORE HEROES!

FWIW, I received a disc mailer and replacement form today, 2/11. Pretty straightforward, drop in the bare disc (no box), the filled form and allow 4 weeks for delivery. They're accepting discs until August 31st. Mine's in the mail.

Got my replacement disc yesterday, the sound difference was well worth the wait. Even my wife could tell the difference between it being in Mono and now in Dolby Surround.
DEREK @ Mar 4th 2008 7:03PM
Did they add anything else to the replacement disc besides the stereo problem?
DEREK @ Mar 4th 2008 7:07PM
Err
Surrond**
ryan backhuus @ Mar 18th 2008 2:13AM
got my disc today, they did us right even though they really did it wrong in the first place, who really dropped the ball ?
NATO_Duke @ Jan 22nd 2008 12:04PM
Dont worry, I'm sure they added mini games to the disc as well.
Oh, I know, I shouldn't have. But I did.

GHIII without Stereo is like Jenga for the Wii, the core function of the game, just dosn't freaking work...
But i guess i don't care, since i've been getting my GHIII on for as long as it's been out....
kiwi @ Jan 22nd 2008 12:29PM
The core function doesn't work?
So since it's in mono, you can't play the songs?
I'm sure most people didn't even notice that it was in mono. Sure, it sucks, but don't make it out to be a bigger deal than it really is.
Chase @ Jan 22nd 2008 12:32PM
I would buy Wii Jenga.

sockatume @ Jan 22nd 2008 12:14PM
Anyone know if the currently-shipping copies of Guitar Hero III are in stereo? I'm not about to go out and buy a game that may or may not be borked and require me to register for a replacement.
Oneiroi @ Jan 22nd 2008 1:33PM
Yeah, I still don't understand why I don't hear a peep about currently selling guitar hero and whether or not it's in stereo.
Ghen @ Jan 22nd 2008 3:23PM
Current disks are still mono when you have 5.1 surround sound.
STEREO SETTING WORKS AND HAS ALWAYS WORKED. Its only surround sound that plays as mono. Get it right Joystiq.
Martin @ Jan 22nd 2008 12:33PM
Way to go Activision! Only four months ... that's damn fine customer service!
Then again, if the Wii had any kind of patching/DLC, then it wouldn't have been that long, I'm sure.
So the moral is you both suck.
flskdajfkl @ Jan 22nd 2008 12:37PM
wow, this only took 6 months. wii owners got fucked, and activision doesnt even care.
ThornedVenom @ Jan 23rd 2008 1:20AM
If they didn't, they wouldn't even ship replacement discs because they don't have any real obligation towards the consumer concerning the mono/stereo issue.
phoenix @ Jan 22nd 2008 1:01PM
So does this mean that more units will be shipping? I can't seem to find a copy of this game to save my life =(
Chris @ Jan 22nd 2008 1:04PM
According the activision, there is stereo sound, its surround sound that is not working correctly
treqie @ Jan 22nd 2008 1:20PM
How about Europe then? A few more months?
Phillip @ Jan 22nd 2008 1:35PM
Some reason they can't put an update out over the interwebs???
Martez @ Jan 22nd 2008 1:44PM
Surround sound is the one f-ed up and outputs mono- Stereo sound works fine on the borked discs. It's not like you only get mono sound on the disc. I use TV speakers, so I never even noticed.
Wardog45 @ Jan 22nd 2008 2:04PM
Awesome... I love the fact that they are sending out a box for us to ship the game to them for replacement (having to wait to recieve the new disk to play the game).... There has GOT to be a better way
Martin @ Jan 22nd 2008 3:17PM
I wonder if they are going to have some poor ass sitting there inserting returned discs to verify that they don't have working surround sound?
You can only listen to Paint it Black so many times before going batshit insane.
Ghen @ Jan 22nd 2008 3:24PM
No, I'm sorry but you can listen to paint it black forever. I do believe its the theme song for Heaven.
jds @ Jan 22nd 2008 4:32PM
I'm not sure if it's worth the fact that they shared my email address with all the other people that signed up for the replacement disks.
Brychanus @ Jan 22nd 2008 4:52PM
The folks on my sub-section of the exposed list have started sharing Friend Codes using "Reply All." It's annoying that Activision screwed up the e-mail, but I guess it could be worse.
ThornedVenom @ Jan 23rd 2008 1:21AM
Buy condoms, because you're about to get spam-raped.
Geist @ Jan 22nd 2008 6:33PM
Now they just need a patch for the graphics. I don't understand how they're worse than GH2 for the PS2. Some of the animations are just terrible, and the drummer looks physically and mentally retarded.
ThornedVenom @ Jan 23rd 2008 1:23AM
Haven't you heard the new multiplatforming formula?
PS3/360/PC and Wii/PS2/PSP.
