No More Heroes creator Suda 51 wants to clarify a few comments. In a post on Grasshopper Manufacturer's website (click on "What's New"), the developer points out what he considers is a "misquote" in an interview with CVG. In response to a question concerning the sales of No More Heroes in Japan, Suda 51 said, "Whilst the sales weren't as high as I hoped, other titles for Wii aren't selling so well either. Only Nintendo titles are doing well," adding that this is the case outside of Japan, too.
The clarification posted asserts that "unlike a lot of Nintendo Wii titles currently available, [NMH] is the kind of product which will attract a different kind of consumer to the hardware, i.e. gamers who are looking for a different genre to the products which have been successful on this platform thus far." That "different kind of consumer" we're guessing is a more hardcore gamer, given comments earlier in the CVG interview where he said, "I wasn't expecting that Wii would be a console targeted only at non-gamers. I expected more games for hardcore gamers." Obviously, he doesn't want to comment on the sales of other third-party titles, but do you think he might have a point?
For those looking for a reportedly more hardcore Wii experience, No More Heroes comes out today in North America.

In response to Fernando:
"I've just become resigned to the fact that this innovative little system is what I'll play Nintendo's one or two big yearly releases on, and nothing else."
And I hardly consider 4-5 games thrown to the 'hardcores' over a year after release catering to us.

Normally I don't buy games on the day they come out, but I made an exception for this one. So when I found out that it's just the ship day today, I was a little frustrated. Oh well, one more day can't kill me.

No More Heroes, great as its going to be, wouldn't sell well anywhere
Now, as to 3rd-party sales, it's true that they're low, but if you look, Wii isn't lacking in quality 3rd-party-hardcore-focused titles. Where it lacks is titles in those categories that are also epic, AAA efforts
You can't get games that are more hardcore than Shiren the Wanderer III or Baroque, but neither of those will get the spotlight of Assassin's Creed or GTAIV
Personally i like where Wii settled out. My epic games i get from Nintendo, but then i get a bunch of niche (mostly) Japanese stuff on the side.

I will be buying this game asap. . .
Unfortuantely, like the poster above me the game is shipped today. I'll probably have to wait until tomorrow or Thursday to actually pick up the game.

I am afraid that the WII is going to be just like the last so many Nintendo systems. Everyone buys the first-party games and very few third-party games will sell wel. Which in turn will make developers stop making games for it and that causes big gaps in good games. The WII will not be the system for good third-party games.

I don't own a Wii, and am not looking to get one any time soon - even if I could. Flash > substance, and too many gimmicks. I'm going back to PC gaming for a while.

Looks quite cool, but lawn-mowing? Asking nintendo not to make mini-games is like asking a 16-year-old male not to wank...

It's not Nintendo who are making the Mini-games, they make more hardcore games. Tell EA and all the other random developers to stop making crap.

I've repeated this several times on several threads, so bear with me.
The reason why 3rd parties don't sell as well on the Wii is because they do not regard it as a next-gen platform. Even many gamers refuse that statement.
As a result, the Wii is artificially set at a lower standard: the greatest example is the current multiplatforming strategy which consists of porting into 2 categories; PC/360/PS3 and Wii/PS2/PSP.
From a pessimistic point of view, developers just want to make interactive movies or minigames (although the end of 2007 was an epic year for gaming).

Nintendo does a good job of minimizing quantum leap hardware advancement to *only* mean better graphics. look at most cross platform games and you'll notice the Wii port will suffer from lack of online or watered down online plus limited gameplay due to a much weaker CPU. add to this the waggle controls that most third party developers cant get right and you got one craptastic Wii port. meanwhile not only do the PS3/360 versions look and sound amazing in 1080p/720p and 5.1 surround sound, you also get one hell of an online experience plus superior *gameplay* due to the advanced CPUs.
look at Smackdown Vs Raw 2008. The Wii version's *gameplay* is severely handicapped compared to the PS3/360 versions(since the CPU is so weak), no online, and crappy waggle controls that are a downgrade to the standard and superior dual analog controls.
this is why third party sales are weak on Wii.
Iwata at E3: "we have reached the point where graphics dont matta anymore." yeah ok Iwata, but a solid online service and a solid CPU(which helps in advancing gameplay) *do* matter. unfortunately, your system does not excel in either of these things. instead you focused on your motion sensor which most third party developers cant get right.

Smackdown vs. Raw. Huh. I don't dude, if I were to play a greasy man-on-man simulator I would want anything and everything to distract me from what was happening on-screen. But, to each his own...

No More Heroes joins Zack and Wiki in the sales losers' circle. Yet Nintendo fans will continue to beckon third parties to make that big budget hardcore game, just so they can turn around and let it falter because Mario's face isn't plastered across it.

I have to wonder.. where's the advertisement for this game? It might be because i don't watch too much tv.. but besides nintendo exclusives, i don't see a lot of advertisement. My friend who works at gamestop didn't even KNOW there was a scar face game for the wii...While claiming teh wii doesn't have any dirty games.
I'll get this game tomorrow.. I already reserved and paid for it.. but i can't make it to the gamestop today.. I have this life that's in the way.
