Joyswag: Free 1-year subscription to EGM magazine

Surely you leave the house and/or office? And perhaps if your phone doesn't support our lovely, lightweight mobile page, you find yourself reaching for the comfortable contours of a print magazine. Something familiar. Something that reminds you of the days when you had little more to worry about than remembering to grab your lunchbox out of the fridge before catching the bus. Something like ... EGM, which has always been there for you.
To make sure you're comforted in those dark times, we've buddied up with the good folks at Ziff once again to give away

You guys rock! I signed up last time this came around, I think my subscription is still good for awhile yet.
To the skeptics: this is not a scam. There is no extra junk mail or collect international phone calls from Nigerian princes. I signed up and have been getting the magazine with no ill effects.
Jack @ Jan 23rd 2008 12:29PM
Yeah I got my magazines last time too! They did take a bit of time to start coming in though. But it was free and I am happy. : )
Huey2k2 @ Jan 23rd 2008 12:23PM
:(
I think my avatar says it all.
Persepolian @ Jan 23rd 2008 1:00PM
It's not fair. Damn America-only swag. What about your brothers up North? Do you care nothing for us?
Christopher Grant @ Jan 23rd 2008 1:07PM
Oh, we do! Regrettably, we're not responsible for establishing international laws (yet!). Our giveaways are gimped because of strange Canadian laws requiring us to administer math tests (really!) and Ziff is limiting this giveaway to US residents. If we had our way, we'd send each and every Canadian reader a gift card to Tim Horton's.
Ignatius @ Jan 23rd 2008 1:09PM
Administer math tests? O.o
...what?
Anticrawl @ Jan 23rd 2008 1:17PM
Well in all honesty I'd rather have a healthcare system than a little extra gaming content. This is exceptionally true when you have sick a family member and insurance companies won't pay their part unless you threaten to send them a bomb in the mail and eventually breach the contract by ending your coverage all together. But since our state is partially run by the insurance company (See: Louisiana vice governor campaign) it is impossible take legal action against them or expect to be treated like a human being. Not only that but medication is comercialized here, which jacks prices sky high because companies are allowed to advertise their perscription drugs and compete with one another/fix prices.
Yep one thing unregulated/poorly regulated capitalism is not good for is all things medical.
So yeah wanna trade my free EGM subscription for free health care or a months worth of medication?
Slaziman @ Jan 23rd 2008 1:46PM
If Canadians aren't getting anything then I guess Europeans can forget about it completely.
Surely you can ship some Joystiq shirts to the Europeans or something? We never get any swag :(
Jim Halpert DM @ Jan 23rd 2008 2:09PM
I'm American. I'm tired of hearing Americans beg for Canadian health. According to the Canadians I know there health care is crap(browse the internet for the stories of extremely long waits for organs) and they have to pay a shit load in taxes, almost 50%. With that money you could pay for healthcare and still have stuff left over. Anyway, thanks Joystiq. I'd rather have you prize than the Canadian healthcare system.
Huey2k2 @ Jan 23rd 2008 2:11PM
The only people who think that Canadian health care is better than the American system are poor people.
n0v4 @ Jan 23rd 2008 4:39PM
@ Huey2k2: Man, the doctors we produce are the best. As soon (and sometimes sooner) they get out of university they get harrassed by private United-States (See I didn't say American, guess why?) companies to go work for them.
@ Jim Halpert DM: We made a choice that Education and health is a Right, not something you need to ask for, to work for, and obviously to beg for to assurance corporation.
Mr Khan @ Jan 23rd 2008 4:58PM
nov4 is right, its a matter of morals, not one of numbers. Healthcare and education are basic human rights. If you want to go with what's more efficient, rich communities might as well start paying for private police...
Markusdragon @ Jan 23rd 2008 8:09PM
@ Huey2k2
"The only people who think that Canadian health care is better than the American system are poor people."
So the majority, then?
SirGecko @ Jan 23rd 2008 9:30PM
Health care isn't a right any more than finding food is a right or free cable tv is a right. Health care is a commodity and it is something that should be earned. Naturally there are going to be extreme situations in which a government should step in to help but these are *extreme* situations. Rights are the things that Government shouldn't take away, commodities are not rights.
Also anyone that thinks universal socialized health care will increase their access is a little loony. Maybe the poorest of the poor would be able to get some primary care that they otherwise wouldn't come in for but they already use emergency departments for this anyway. (the tab for which the government picks up) Otherwise for any expensive interventions the wait lists can be huge.
One final note for all those pining for socialized health care: for better or worse the US health care system does what you want. If you want to have every procedure possible to give you a couple of more months in the realm of the living, you can do that. In a socialized scheme everything would be up for government approval. Low survivability procedure with a huge cost and not much time gained? No go for a socialized scheme.
Anyway, on topic I'd like to say thanks Joystiq. I knew there was a reason I check this site.

Back to the subject of unserviced Canadians: it's not fair since Canada is the 51st state of the US. ;P

Heh, there's no 50% income tax for individuals in Canada. It's in line with the American Income Tax. http://www.cra-arc.gc.ca/tax/individuals/faq/taxrates-e.html
