After flexing his muscle in last year's God of War 2, Kratos may need to take a little break. Games Radar is claiming (via Games World UK) that inside sources tell them God of War 3 won't be released until at the earliest Christmas 2009. That date seems to fall under common sense, given that two years passed between the first two God of War titles and the next iteration is taking a leap to the more technically-proficient PlayStation 3.
An earlier rumor from EGM suggested the game would come out this Christmas alongside an also-rumored release of Gears of War 2. The third God of War, sans outgoing lead developer Cory Barlog, is expected to feature ultra-fancy graphics, motion controls and rumble.

Wow, I've been saying for a while now that I would probably be in the market for a PS3 in the fall of 2009. I figured by then there would be enough exclusive titles peak my interest.
My only stipulation was if GoW3 or Ueda's new title came out sooner than that.
Steady as she goes... :)

My only question is how in the hell are they going to weaken Kratos this time? He's riding fucking Gaia's back up to Olympus and he's already beaten Zues once....
I sincerely hope they take it to a ridiculous level and suddenly reveal a Titans betrayal (they certainly hinted towards it) and suddenly Kratos is all like "fuck it, I'll kill you all!"

Acctaully, i have it from reliable sources that in God of War III Kratos has a botched sex change and loses his Mojo, he is then outcast and has to go kill Caligula and steal his Mojo (think Highlander, but the other kind of head... indeed)... makes for good video games no?

The ending of GoW was badass. It never ceases to amaze me in terms of how beautiful it is and the events that take place. In fact GoW is probably the only sony game that I've come acrose that has as really rich storyline that I enjoyed.
But thats probably cuz I'm a big geek when it comes to Ancient Greece/Rome.
I'd love to see Kratos get a bitch pregnant and then die at the end of the game opening the way up for another trilogy...

Not surprising. They have MGS for this christmas and want to save their only other good exclusive game until next christmas. In the meantime, all of the sony sheep will keep buying Blu-Ray movies.
Anyone want to buy a slightly used PS3?

"Rumor: God of War III waits until Christmas 2009"
Fact: I don't care.
Most PS3 games are just PS2 games with more eye-candy for CG-junkies to jerk off to, and God of War is the ultimate eye-candy game. Bland melee interspersed with press-the-button-as-prompted game-play to watch scripted CG sequences. I have a PS3. It's a fantastic Blu-Ray movie player, but I'll stick to my Wii for game-play.

Thats a good way to describe the game if you only saw 2 or 3 videos from it.
Just stick with your wii and blu rays and leave playing real games to others.

GOW made popular the whole button press sequence that everyone now copies. And let me say this before I get flamed, I'm not saying GOW invented the button press sequence I'm just saying they made it popular. And anyway Evan you don't have watch the beautiful CG that the 360 and PS3 can produce, you can continue the flailing arms at your Wii.

How can you hate on a game that's almost two years away from being released and that previous games have been up for the Game of the Year each year they were released. Please stop being a stupid fanboy and just enjoy playing video games.

Evan, the irony of that last comment is sooo delicious, it should be marketed as the next Little Debbie product.
"If by "real games", you mean outdated game-play methodologies played with a decade-old controller design, then yes."
Look at that. Now, isn't SSBB nigh unplayable on anything aside from a classic controller? Doesn't Gamecube's Zelda perform better in the controls department? I mean, if you're jonesing for an authentic Wii experience... here you go.

So if this is not coming out, and FF13 (both) are not coming out, and if Haze is not coming out (maybe?). All there is from the "wait til ____" list is Killzone 2 and MGS4

The ps3 will be like $299 (or even lower if I'm lucky) by that time probably which just might make me take the plunge and find out whats so great about Kratos...

you can find a PS2 for $ 99 (much more less if you search), play the first 2 GoW games, so you can find out with Kratos is so great...

I watched the movie scenes on Youtube so I have a basic idea of what the games about. I will admit I haven't played it but it looks like a typical hack and slash ala Goddess of War.
Plus theres no way in hell I'm gonna buy a ps2.
Now I might buy a ps3 if its ridiculously cheap and FFXIII proves to be a ps3 exclusive and is out by that time.

Well, you can still play GoW I and II with a non-40GB PS3. That's what I did =P.
And honestly... take the Kratos plunge asap. That is honestly one game you don't want to miss.
Its not just a typical hack and slash. Its just an extremely satisfying game thats also a platformer, and action game, and its bundled with the craziest boss fights known to man. Plus its got whicked cinematics and a good exciting story to work through.
There's a reason why they're both GOTY titles =P.

man...so i can look forward to Little Big Planet in the fall and GOW3 about 14 months after that. I guess I'll stock up on BluRay movies.
btw, not interested in Metal Gear (not a cutscene fan, so you lost me after 2) or anything Final Fantasy.
whatever, sony.

Oh, you should try MGS 3. If you like the cutscenes, you'll loooove menus.
At least the story makes more sense, in that there's no body transferrence, vampires, or gay ninjas...

That's why MGS3 is the best one. It doesn't try to be weird or anything like that and offers a pretty straight forward plot. Sadly that isn't the case with MGS4 since obviously Kojima has been smoking something(sadly not the good kind Miyamoto smokes) which made him think it was a good Idea to put Monkeys that drink coke.

I actually like the MGS series as a whole. Weird and sometimes disturbing, story lines didn't bother me at all. It gave the game more character and distant itself from any other games that I played. You can't say when you finally realized that to bet the Psycho Mathis you had to switch controllers you didn't think that was cool. Or didn't you flip out when the Colonel in MGS 2 told you were playing the game for to long and that Asian chick pop up.
And don't get it wrong people; we are playing video games. When did games have to make sense? Look at ever story line for any fighting game. As long as the game is fun and story is good enough to keep my attention its fine with me. I hope they pull out all the stunts for this one.

Very well put kbomb. And its not like MGS isn't a series that tries to be realistic. From what I've seen, it's exactly what I expected and looks like a ton of fun.

GOOD. This is going to be a busy/crowded year just like 2007, and GoW needs it's space. Plus I would rather them have more time to make the game extra juicy. Wait, did I just say juicy? As in what girls have printed on the back of their sweat pants?

Indeed you did, other words that i'd like to be able to describe God of War III with that are also printed on the butt of young women/girls:
Foxy
Hott
Sexy
Da Bomb
Stop looking at my Ass you Pervert!

God of War III can wait as long as it wants, i don't want a bad product... as long as they don't rush it we'll all be ok :-P
Gears 2, thats a differnt story, i want to see a good sequel this year, to show them Halo 3 Freaks what a good Shooter looks like :-P
But i digress, i can wait for God of War III, as long as they don't jump the shark.

It's surprising how many of my friends still haven't played either GoW. I feel kind of sorry for them, as they'll never know the bliss of scoring a 2-300 hit combo or ripping a cyclops' eye from his battered skull.
Poor bastards.
