Sony delays Skype, microphones for PSP in Japan
On the eve of its January 24 debut in Japan, Sony's PSP Skype service and microphones have been delayed. According to the press release, "it was found that the microphone did not meet the Skype specifications in part to obtain certification." Doesn't that seem like a problem that should have been dealt with before launch week, possibly before a release date was even announced?
No new date has been given for either the microphone or Skype service. Our sister site Engadget had a chance to check out the new service earlier this month at CES 2008.

delaystation 3 strikes again
Still though this will come out and IMO the PSP while not having all the great games the DS has, does hold an advantage in the multiple ways it can be used. Not to mention the graphics.
Its probably a long way off but I hope the next Nintendo handheld happens to possess great graphics.

LOL, how do you blame PS3 for the delay of Skype's microphone for the PSP?
That totally made me laugh. Moron!!!
Mike @ Jan 23rd 2008 11:40AM
It seems like the PS3 is the scapegoat for everything that goes wrong in the gaming industry nowadays.
Damn Xbox 360 just RROD...CRAP! It must be 'cause of the PS3. DAMNNN YOU PS3!!!
NATO_Duke @ Jan 23rd 2008 12:10PM
OMG you are the same guy that said that COD4 was just another WW2 game to you after playing it...that made me laugh my ass off.
Oh ya know what, I have to quote it - because it was that funny:
"I'm playing both equally. Both are excellent games IMO but Halo 3 is definitely better in my opinion.
Sorry but WW2 is over and done with...played OUT.
Kudos to Infinity Ward because I think we can all admit they made a good game but after the single player game it just becomes like any other multiplayer game set with WW2 stuff in it."
Oh thats good stuff. Now you pin a psp issue to the ps3. Dude - you have the lowest credibility ever!
cc123 @ Jan 23rd 2008 12:35PM
hahaha
I hadn't seen that COD4 quote before! This dude is such freaking loon.
Oh oh JonnyBoy2U, time to change screen names again!
KushielsScion007 @ Jan 23rd 2008 1:01PM
Huh?
And yeah my comment about COD4 was stupid and completely false. However I do own the game and while its not a WW2 game its still another shooter with multiplayer when it comes down to it. Just like Halo 3 is. The only difference is that I find Halo 3 to be more fun.
@ ccc123
Go back to being to be the arrogant asshole that you are.

I really don't understand why the doctors at your facility keep allowing you to use a computer...
NATO_Duke @ Jan 23rd 2008 1:50PM

Apparently its a delay for Japan only. Europe and the US are on schedule for end of January release.

OMG! Sony delayed another product again? NO FREAKING WAY...
This is nothing new to me. Sounds pretty normal to me since its coming from Sony.
nerrrrrrd @ Jan 23rd 2008 11:30AM

Now I have to first confess that I don't have graduate degrees in marketing, electrical engineering or dumbfuckery (just a B.S. in dumbfuckery) but my due to the information taken in by my ill trained eyes and little brain I am beginning to believe that Sony just doesn't know what the hell is it doing. Are they suffering from the same sort of corporate bloat and lack of maneuverability that castrated Atari and titans of other industries (see the entire American automobile industry)? It just seems that they've had a really long run of luck where they just can't seem to get anything right- and I would submit that since their embrace of the DVD format and advent of the PS2 they have whiffed majorly just about everywhere, especially considering that the jury is nowhere close to finished on the question of blue ray. All I do know for certain is that I were a Sony investor, I'd take a good hard look before holding onto that stock.
x876543 @ Jan 23rd 2008 1:23PM
Copying Nintendo again? The DS already has a microphone. /biasedcomment
SUPER DESU @ Jan 23rd 2008 1:26PM
I didn't know the DS had Skype?
ledorky @ Jan 23rd 2008 1:49PM
The DS has homebrew SIP phone capability however.
Been out thx to the homebrew community for months.
I believe you need skype the company to actually put out clients/make it compatible since it's not an open-source system.
ThornedVenom @ Jan 24th 2008 2:36AM
Dude, how can a microphone NOT be compliant with Skype?
It's just Skype trying to sap some Sony money, and I'm not judging them.
texinick @ Jan 24th 2008 5:14AM
Once again no surprises from Sony. I'm so tired of hearing announcements from Sony for things that either:
a) never actually happen
b) are massively delayed (PS1 games on PSP anyone)
or
c) are useless without the required peripheral (The fairly major PSPout feature on the slim but no cables available until 6-8 weeks later here in Australia)
I wish they'd just keep their mouths shut until the product was ready to ship. But I guess it's all a big marketing ploy... promise everything in the hope that people will buy their products, and not the competitors. I got suckered into that with the PS1 games on PSP thing that they announced well over 12 months ago, and then required a PS3! The PSP ended up being unused for months, while I played games on the DS.
