Splinter Cell Conviction still an Xbox exclusive
Despite a recent GAME typo that listed Splinter Cell Conviction for PlayStation 3, Ubisoft has already cashed Microsoft's blank check, er, reaffirmed its "deal" with Microsoft to keep the console version of the sneaky sequel bound exclusively to Xbox 360 – and besides, PS3 can't render Sam's new beard, right? "This is just a mistake by the retailer. The game is not coming out on PS3," an Ubisoft spokesperson told VideoGamer. The representative also dismissed GAME's suggested April 1 release date, stating, "We're sticking to the original announcement." Last we heard (and confirmed again today), the next Splinter Cell is scheduled for the company's coming fiscal year (April 2008–March 2009).

Speaking of typos, James.
"The next Splinter Cell is scheduled for the company's coming fiscal year (April 2008–March 2009)."
hydralisk456 @ Jan 23rd 2008 4:51PM
Where's the typo?
hydralisk456 @ Jan 23rd 2008 4:54PM
Sorry, didn't read far enough down.
Eric @ Jan 23rd 2008 3:06PM
I thought this was lost with Alan Wake.
rc @ Jan 23rd 2008 3:09PM
Confirmed for the PS3
StrangeBum @ Jan 23rd 2008 3:50PM
With your acute reasoning. MGS4 is also confirmed for the 360. As well as Final Fantasy XIII.
Oh and also, that would confirm Simon Belmont in Smash Bros., which would be kickass.
robert @ Jan 23rd 2008 3:10PM
it's not the beard the ps3 has trouble with... now that the newer revisions don't have the emotion engine they can't fully render the "emo" haircut
TheGuy @ Jan 23rd 2008 3:30PM
I see what you did there.
E.J. @ Jan 23rd 2008 3:42PM
@TheGuy
It wasn't exactly subtle.
Cyro @ Jan 23rd 2008 3:43PM
I didn't. Care to explain?
Geist @ Jan 24th 2008 12:15AM
*Ahem*.
Well, Cyro, you see here, I refer to Robert's referral to the emotion engine (Fig 1) and the "emo" haircut (Fig 2). As one might know, the term "emo", oft-used to describe those of with a self-inflicted solitary apathetic expression of life, is arguably short for the word 'emotion'.
This comes into place with Robert's referral to Fig1, the term that the Sony Playstation 3 (PS3) has been come to known as playfully, despite the name only been used officially to describe the Sony Playstation 2 (PS2).
Since the 'Emotion Engine' involves the use of the word 'emotion' within its moniker, and the term 'emo' is derived from the word 'emotion', there is a subtle yet distinct connection between the two. Because of Sam Fisher's haircut, often used by those of the 'emo' persuasion, one can further make a connection between the system's lofty (yet oft joked-about) system (Fig1) and the haircut worn by Sam Fisher in this particular media-released screenshot.
tl;dr: Hahah go cry emo Fisher, go cry.
Zeus the God @ Jan 23rd 2008 3:10PM
o yeah..... now i remember UBI said something about them not being able to do things they could do on the 360(things they couldnt do i dont know). i also remember when they said AA is not possible on the PS3. Ubisoft has took it self in the wrong direction delaying HAZE further making them even more unreliable if RB6V2 gets the short stick like the first(how long was it delayed and looked like trash compared to the 360 version) then HAZE is dead to me
arrrgh @ Jan 23rd 2008 3:34PM
maybe ps3 is the wrong system for you ;)
Sony Programmer @ Jan 23rd 2008 3:35PM
I believe the things they COULD do on the 360 that they couldn't do on the PS3 were: Release it on time, Sell millions of copies and hire a single programmer to port it directly to PC in a year; respectively.
Princess Skittles @ Jan 23rd 2008 3:11PM
Wow. He's totally hardcore and extreme to the max.
el serpiente @ Jan 23rd 2008 3:11PM
No Splinter Cell for PS3? My heart aches with profound loss. Oops no, that was that burrito I had for lunch.
nutman @ Jan 23rd 2008 6:02PM
Here's your response if Conviction was confirmed for PS3: OMFG HAHA EAT IT XBOX FANS WE HAVE THE AWESOME SPLINTER CELL WOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.
If its not coming out for 'your' console the response is always "oh who cares!", but if it IS coming for 'your' console the response is always the exact opposite.
Consistency. It's a good thing. Try it.
ulovemikeroch @ Jan 23rd 2008 11:44PM
And if a Ps3 exclusive comes to x360? "OMGLOL YOU LOST AN EXCLUSIVE 360 IS MUCH BETTERLOLZORS! XBL!!1"
el serpiente @ Jan 24th 2008 9:17PM
Sorry to disappoint you nutman, but it's as simple as I really don't care for those fancy-schmancy Tom Clancy games and that's about it. But good for you for expressing yourself thoughtfully and releasing some of that aggression you have pent up.
DP @ Jan 23rd 2008 3:12PM
Of course not, silly twits. Microsoft simply would not allow it. Splinter Cell: Conviction is 360's answer to MGS4.
Intentless @ Jan 23rd 2008 3:20PM
As great a series as MGS4 belongs to.... I don't really see it having any real impact that MS would need to specifically combat... The first Solid was Awesome the second... not so much... and the third was better than the second but not near the first.... 4th holds lots of promise but personally I'm going to have to pass....
Boostjunkie @ Jan 23rd 2008 4:11PM
That's a good point, a much better alternative to MGS4. MGS4 will no doubt have to come to 360 eventually, no company likes missing out on lots of moneys.
deaftly @ Jan 23rd 2008 4:13PM
This will probabaly also sell more copies than MGS4 if it stays PS3 exclusive.
Robert @ Jan 23rd 2008 3:13PM
does anyone care about this anymore i actually forgot about splinter cell till i saw this post
Obie @ Jan 23rd 2008 3:23PM
Nope, Splinter Cell stopped being cool 3 games back.
Mike-453 @ Jan 23rd 2008 4:01PM
Yep, Conviction is a cpmletely new direction for the series and Sam Fisher never fails to entertain me. I'm so sad I read the Splinter Cell novels.
Since when has Splinter Cell got any negative comments anyway? It's always been a quality series (single-player).
CW @ Jan 23rd 2008 3:19PM
I wonder if this is a timed exclusive? Maybe UBISOFT will unleash their shitty port 6 months later? Like RB6:V?
Leobebes @ Jan 23rd 2008 3:20PM
"already cashed Microsoft's check"
See this is the crap that gets everyone riled up. Why do you think Kojima, Haze, and other Sony exclusives that are third party remain as PS3's exclusives nowadays? Do you think because Sony has the largest install base? No...Do you think its because PS3 owners snatch up titles like there is no tomorrow? No...look at R&C sales and Uncharted...
So how does Sony do it? Are they just the most cordial bunch of suits the video game industry has ever known so developers are willing to lose money on their titles by putting them out exclusively to the money pit that is the PS3 without an up front fee? Please...
Sony is surviving right now by locking up exclusives the same way Microsoft is doing it. How do you think Sony stole the thunder from Nintendo? They didn't even have in house studios at the beginning of the PS1 era, they had to buy publishers to make their games. It's how any business works. Sony is a corporation like Microsoft who have to answer to shareholders and have to spend money to make money, when Sony says they don't pay for exclusives then how do they secure them with such a lousy attachment rate? By giving the best HJ's west of the Yangtze River Valley?
Leobebes @ Jan 23rd 2008 3:21PM
*Correction
"East of the Yangtze River Valley"
Sorry
Towers @ Jan 23rd 2008 3:26PM
Totally agree. Amazing how MS get so much stick for buying exclusives when Sony has done exactly the same in the past and nobody cared.
Knight Marquise @ Jan 23rd 2008 3:37PM
Leobebes,
It's about time somebody pointed this out. Well said.
Vidikron (FU) @ Jan 23rd 2008 4:06PM
Dude... it's a fvcking joke.
Leobebes @ Jan 23rd 2008 4:45PM
Vidikron...
I am aware its a joke. I am a 360 fan and I don't bat an eyelash when the headline contains an RROD joke because the joke is based on truth and facts. I just want to point out the misconception that Microsoft is the only company that pays the rights to exclusives and that one of the greatest mysteries in the world right now is how Sony continues to pry up exclusives while suffering from one of the most deplorable attach rates in history by a Sony machine. If they claim they are not paying for exclusives then how the hell are they still keep publishers exclusives with them risking abysmal sales especially in a competitive dwindling economy.
So instead of trying to make me sound like an idiot by stating the obvious how about a comprehensive well thought out rebuttal to my question. How does Sony continue to snatch up exclusives despite a 3rd place position, horrible attachment rates, and claiming they don't pay for exclusives?
Vidikron (FU) @ Jan 23rd 2008 5:12PM
I don't actually disagree with most of what you said, but you went off on this big tirade over a joke. At no point does Jason/Joystiq make the claim or even infer that other companies don't make payments for exclusives. So I simply failed to see why you even bother to type all that out. You say stuff like that is what gets everyone riled up, but you seem to be the only one that did.
Knight Marquise @ Jan 23rd 2008 5:39PM
@Vidikron
"I don't actually disagree with most of what you said"
I'm curious, what do you disagree with?
NATO_Duke @ Jan 23rd 2008 6:31PM
I believe he disagreed with "See this is the crap that gets everyone riled up."
Vidikron (FU) @ Jan 23rd 2008 10:52PM
Wow... I've been voted down for rightly defending a joke made by a Joystiq blogger? WTF?
@Knight Marquise
NATO pretty much nailed it. I agree with Leobebes in that MS isn't the only company that "buys" exclusives. It's just business after all. I just didn't understand why he thought everyone would get riled about an obvious joke. Leobebes stated all that as if Joystiq was insinuating that MS is the only company to pay for exclusives, but they clearly did not state nor inferred any such thing.
This really isn't complicated, guys.
KushielsScion007 @ Jan 23rd 2008 11:45PM
@ Vidikron
Wow....I mean I really didn't think those hearts meant so much to you but now that I truly see that your daily happiness is dependent to some extent on being "voted" up or down I really don't know what to do...laugh or cry.
Either way though the original poster had a valid point. The anti 360 tone/mood on Joystiq is kinda ridiculous.

oh really? I guess you are right since this has never been done before with success. I mean look at the mess that Call of Duty 4 was. That game sucked so much that it barely sold anything.
