Confirming earlier rumors, THQ has announced that the PlayStation 3 version of dystopian shooter, Frontlines: Fuel of War, has been canceled. And it's not the only game to have its plug unceremoniously pulled. Indeed, THQ's update to its fiscal 2008 outlook brings to mind Joystiq's consistently inept maid who's always yanking all the cables out with her feet while she's dusting the office TV.
In describing the publisher's third fiscal quarter (ended December 31, 2007), the report notes "non-cash charges of approximately $27 million" in relation to the cancellation of not only the PlayStation 3 edition of Frontlines, but the PlayStation 2 version of Destroy All Humans!: Big Willy Unleashed. THQ also notes a decision "not to pursue" its Juiced and Stuntman properties, the latter particularly described as underperforming following its release on Xbox 360 and PS3 last year.
Also appended are two unannounced titles for Xbox 360 and PS3 which "had" been scheduled for release in THQ's fiscal year 2010. One of them was being worked on by THQ's Concrete Games Studio, also the victim of a closure according to the report. Though it would be easier to blame the maid, THQ CEO and president, Brian Farrel, deemed the decouplings necessary to "strengthen [THQ's] pipeline and position [the company] to compete aggressively with compelling, high quality games."

I don't blame them for canceling it. It sounds like it was going to be late anyway. And these late releases invariably underperform, especially if the reviews on the initial release are poor. It isn't a reflection on the PS3 except maybe about how it became late in the first place. It's just a condemnation of spending money releasing late ports of mediocre games.

Am I the only one who actually enjoyed Stuntman and the Juiced games?? (don't answer that)
I am disappointed Stuntman got discontinued though, that game was pretty unique and is one of those "great games no one plays" imo

Stuntman had its moments. Juiced was a good alternative to NFS, but the first one was underpublicized and the second one was a misstep.

Cos the news of Resistance 2 is enough to get FPS PS3 owners happy, the last thing we need is another FPS, what I'm upset about is Haze being Delayed and having to wait so damn long for God of war 3 :(
Battlefront is the least of my concern, lol

ONE hot summer’s day a Fox was strolling through an orchard till he came to a bunch of Grapes just ripening on a vine which had been trained over a lofty branch. “Just the things to quench my thirst,” quoth he. Drawing back a few paces, he took a run and a jump, and just missed the bunch. Turning round again with a One, Two, Three, he jumped up, but with no greater success. Again and again he tried after the tempting morsel, but at last had to give it up, and walked away with his nose in the air, saying: “I am sure they are sour.”

Not suprised at stuntman, wasn't enough depth, and as for Juiced, it had no light, the light is on NFS, Midnight Club and Burnout, theres no space for any more 'customize the car and illegal street race' type games. Thats like having four Halo clones :)

The one thing I really hate about one console 'enjoying' so much success is that 'choices' are taken away from you for the sake of making more money on the 'leading' console.
It drives competition, which is a good thing, but if there is a 'con' to it, it's the fact that your choices for games on other systems become fewer and fewere because they are chosen by other people (the majority).
I know that's the law of economics, but it's still sad to see other people who have chosen another system or can only have the system their parents bought them, suffer because of it.
My two cents.

*fewer*, I wish they would add an edit feature to these comments.
I also would like to add that I have all 3 consoles right now and I would like to see more games for the PS3, I already have a ton of games on the 360 and Wii.
To be honest, I really like the blue tooth connectivity of the PS3 and it's 'solid' build along with it's dual purpose as a BD player. I love the online aspect of the 360 and the contorl options of the Wii. Now if we could just figure out a way to incorporate all three of these consoles strengths into one console, we'd have a SUPER console! lol =D

you = me
I have the EXACT same opinion/situation. I've had my PS3 for about 4 months now, and have YET to buy a game for it. Luckily, Devil May Cry is coming out soon and will be a nice way to jump in with my PS3.
But you're right, it does leave me with a lack of games, especially considering how many games I've bought in the last few months. Heck, just THIS WEEK, I bought 3 games, none for my PS3: No More Heroes, Burnout Paradise, and Advance Wars: Days of Ruin.
And as far as your gaming Voltron idea goes...
That sounds awesome. Let's make it happen, and be rich!

Good riddance to "Stuntman," easily one of the best examples of a game series being no fun at all and 100% headache-inducing. It could have been cool, I think, but the trial and error execution outweighed its fun factor. "Juiced" will not be missed by yours truly, either. The first one was terrible enough that I didn't bother to try the second.

~ off topic (actually totally off topic) but
No More Heroes is awesome. The city's a bit bland (and ugly), but the combat is perfect and zippin' around in that motorcycle of his is fun as hell
Plus he has a kitty
(sorry, it had to be said somewhere)

Juiced 2 was crap, it deserved to be shelved. Stuntman Ignition was good, it deserved to be around longer.

Off-topic, but here goes anyway - check out No More Heroes. It's a bit off the wall, but it's disturbingly funny and sort of strangely satisfying when using the motion controls. At least make it a point to be a rental.

@ Vidikron,
From what I've seen, Fernando's PS3 comments aren't any more obnoxious than your knee jerk cheerleading for BR & the PS3.
Just an observation.

This is because THQ is cleaning house. Their company is internally a mess. This title most likely began dev on an X360/PC basis and hence, as everyone knows, the PS3 is radically different. Considering that their company is in financial hell right now, continuing to spend money on a platform that would require substantial time to port over, is not worth it for them. Plain and simple. No knock on the PS3 capability or what not. Simple executive decision to cut costs and get new products out ASAP.
