Today in Joystiq: January 23, 2008
Normally when people say they have a LEGO Master Chief, it's a little guy with a yellow head wearing green space equipment. Not Nathan Sawaya's Master Chief bust. No surprise, really, as he's a professional LEGO artist. (Thanks, Temidien) Check out the highlights for today:

How does one go about getting a job as a professional LEGO artist?
DangerMouse @ Jan 24th 2008 12:12AM
Yeah, and how much do they make a year?
Shmil @ Jan 24th 2008 1:18AM
damn as soon as i read the article i thought that
but it looks like i was beaten to the punch
man i need to rethink my future

I'm pretty sure he sells his art like any other artist (and I think Lego Land has some of his work). I remember reading about him a few years ago after he was featured in PSM (Playstation Magazine) for making a replica of the boomerang controller (that was originally gunna be the PS3 controller) out of legos.
Trickob @ Jan 24th 2008 12:07AM
just a bust? pfff. I'll be impressed when I see a full scale lego (or blocko) model.
ThornedVenom @ Jan 24th 2008 3:27AM
Do you have any idea how much lego pieces cost nowadays?
Temidien @ Jan 24th 2008 12:31PM
You obviously haven't seen the guy's site. He does full-scale models of people just out of legos. Awesome stuff...
Kentuckyfried @ Jan 24th 2008 1:31AM
A Professional Lego Artist makes 2-3 times more than a Mega Block Carver FYI
senorbelly @ Jan 24th 2008 11:53AM
Just be glad you didn't major in Professional K'nex Arts.
Like me. (snif)

Not very good. Too blocky.
A LEGO Master Builder would make one better.
colin @ Jan 24th 2008 2:46AM
i bet a dollar that a program can be/already is written to take a 3d render of master chief (or anything) and map it out into a lego blueprint.
colin @ Jan 24th 2008 3:25AM
p.s. i recently fell into a small fortune ($70) and have narrowed it down to COD4, Mass Effect, and Orange Box. anyone with all three care to help a brother out with a recommendation?
BIGGEN @ Jan 24th 2008 5:19AM
hm, you should go the ebay route and get two of em ;)
Mal F4cti0n @ Jan 24th 2008 4:52PM
Buy CoD4 (because of the multiplayer replayability) and rent Mass Effect (which is worth a play-thru).
I played Half-Life 2 on the original xBox so I am not going to get it for portal and TF2. If you have a computer, try and pick those two up as standalone titles.
ThornedVenom @ Jan 24th 2008 3:28AM
Master Chief is watching you.
Dauragon88 @ Jan 24th 2008 8:14AM
God, I feel like such dork for geeking out over this.
Keiichi @ Jan 24th 2008 7:08PM
Damn... The Stig's looked better...
