Grand Theft Auto IV dated for April 29

Apparently, despite our frequent doubting, Grand Theft Auto IV will be hitting the February to April target that Take-Two set when the game was delayed last year, if only just barely. The game has now been slated to drop on April 29th.

If you've checked out the multitude of previews that dropped this week, you'd know that game is looking really, really awesome, so we're counting on Rockstar to hit its date this time around. What more is there to say, really? GTA IV. April 29. We're there.

awesome! I'm not really a huge fan of the series but this one looks like its going to be great..

Same here, never been interested in them but for some reason THIS one has me intrigued. Looks like it might have the best story so far from all the others. Ill wait till the reviews.

Color me surprised. I seriously thought it wouldn't hit until November.

I wonder how this is going to effect MGS4's release date (since there's no way they're doing a staggered multiplatform release for this game)...

I also STILL think it's not going to hit until the fall, so I obviously could be wrong.

Damnit, I feel for Okami even more now :(! Why does it have to be shafted like this! It's stuck in between Crisis Core, Smash Bros., Ninja Gaiden DS, GTA4, FF:CC The Rings of Fate, Ninja Gaiden 2 and MGS4! Major release for every system.
And Okami will be there saying "I'm pretty"

Yeah, but remember that those are all pretty different games for totally different systems, so it'll have a little breathing room.

I mean, I still personally don't think Okami will sell any better on the "Wii Sports Machine" than it did on the "Grand Theft Auto/Madden" machine. I'll be buying another copy, but I don't think a ton of other people will.

I get what you're saying but still... Everyone will be like I have no money for Okami, I have to buy Smash and MGS or Final Fantasy or etc. Okami would have had a better chance in like January or February, March is just too huge a month.

Does this mean that it hits Yerp on May 2nd?

I also think alot of other games will start to get release dates now that GTAIV has one....

Mainly because they want to positio themselves AROUND GTA so the game doesn't go unoticed.

For example: Killzone 2, Prototype, Haze(lol), Duke Nukem (lolzerdragon), Alan wake (new ip), LBP(yeah!)....etc.etc.

While all of those are not even the same genre, they WILL BE affected by its presence. My theory for this is similar to the HALO EFFECT and it's called the GRAND THEFT EFFECT! (lol)

i think you make a good point there. this game is going to sell a ridiculous amount. i mean what two games do even non-gamers know more than any other? Halo and GTA. this game will sell like hotcakes and the fact that it's mulitplatform wont hurt the cause either. most other games really cant compete with the kind of notoriety that this game is bringing and will got lost in its wake. look at how many games got pushed back around the Halo 3 release. i expect to see alot more release dates as this date nears closer.

Good news. Just in time to disrupt my final semester. :D Also, I believe this is a simultanious worldwide release? I think I read that some where.

In other news, I just came.

I seriously doubt Rockstar will miss this date. I'm sure it was hard for them to do it the first time, but they won't let it happen again. My favorite franchise, period. I do hope they have the signature DJs back like they did in Vice City. The soundtrack is just as important as the chracters in GTA.

Huh? Now where did I get this idea it would be out on the 8th of March? Oh well.

Awesome! I don't even own a PS3 or 360 but yet I'm excited for this game. In fact I'm tempted to buy a 360 just to play it!

Anybody know if they plan to release it for the PC at some point?

This is going to be THE best game this year ! a true sequel that evolves the GTA formula. After playing all those colne sandbox games this will be awesome !

oh shit i better go preorder soon cause it'll be gone within minutes of stores opening in my area. This will likely be the biggest selling game of this generation too. I'm just praying this is the final release day judging from those excellent previews it got yesterday

also according to ign, april 29th is a worldwide release day :D

This game will be awesome but I doubt it will be GOTY. But like an earlier poster said its gonna sell ridiculously well. Especially on the 360 most likely.

I don't know if I should Pre-Order DMC 4 though...something tells me that it should be easy to walk in and buy a copy. But hey I could be wrong.

I preo-order my first special edition of any game. I think is worth it. Besides I want that license plate that Amazon is throwing in on the deal.

I am very exited about this game. It's going to be one of the greatest gaming moments this year.

Now i'm just torn as whether i should get it for my 360 or PS3, its a toss up for me as i dont buy DLC mostly so thats not a deciding factor for me as far as 360 goes... but i DO like achievements, on the other hand i hate the monster i become trying to get said achievements.

Oh well either way, gonna be a hell of a time with this game.

Its funny how some of the best thing happen by accident or are unintended. Take penicillin for example, or waterproof paper, both happened by accident.
Which brings me to my point. Every year, the game publishers make us languish for the 1st 3 quarters of the year only to inundate us with a tidal wave of games in the 4th quarter. It looks like this year will be the 1st year of BIG coming out in all 4 quarters. All of the game delays that we have been experiencing have actually benefited us as gamers. NOW we will have a plethora of AAA titles to play throughout the entire calendar year.

Let us gamers SHOW the publishers that this is the right thing to do. Show them that by spacing out the big titles over the year is a better strategy than to throw everything out in November. Now, each game can stand out more on its own, and hopefully each game will sell more.

I know I will be able to buy more of the games I want instead of having to chose 1 over the other.

2008 is going to be an incredible year for games on all 3 consoles and in my opinion....especially the PS3.

Bigger than halo 3? Hmmm.. Eventually yes because its multiplaform. But I dont think it is going to outsell what halo3 did in a week or maybe not even in the first month. After that, yes it will surpass it but not for a while. I am sure about that. Halo fans are more rabid than GTA fans
