- GameSpy (80/100): "Its controls aren't always as solid as the visual and narrative experience, however; driving around Santa Destroy is a little clunky, and some of the mini-games get old fast. But the visual experience, zany storytelling and quirky moments make it more accessible than Killer 7 ever was, though it's certainly not a game for everyone."
- IGN (78/10): "No More Heroes isn't the most polished game out there, and it certainly has its fair share of quirks all around, but it deserves to keep its place in the libraries of the more serious Wii gamers just the same. Suda 51 promised a violent, stylistic spectacle, and he delivered."
- X-Play (100/100): "Death is hilariously over the top, bodies collapse in sections, heads pop like released balloons, amidst a symphony of screams from larynx free throats. Travis plays sweetly on these organs, the moans are applause. We love Suda and the imaginative commitment to No More Heroes, from the brown zep-dropping humanity of save points, to the incredible characters, story, and fight mechanic, we give No More Heroes a 5 out of 5."
Metareview - No More Heroes (Wii)

The critical consensus on No More Heroes has more or less quelled our fears: It plays nothing like Suda 51's last cel-shaded bizarro-fest, Killer 7. Though the stylized characters and unrelentingly quirky atmosphere remains, Grasshopper Manufacture's wack 'n slash seems to benefit greatly from frenetic fighting and gallons of comical blood (at least if you're playing the American version). Looks like we'll be wanting that sequel after all, Suda.

Seems like Suda 51 should have hit nintendo up for help for making it an exclusive. They always seem to be willing to help a good and/or innovative developer.

People in the States and elsewhere need to buy this game so we can get a sequel.

NMH is a niche game, like psychonaunts and the such it is a game gamers say they want but in reality never do. I love this blasted game so much I almost want to squeal with joy. I can totally see how a game like this got a 100/100 or a ten out of ten. Of course I don't agree with numerical scales as a judgment in video games or movies, or music.
Either way the game Owns, if you like stylized graphics and trippy mental states get the game. If you don't just pass on it.

I went out to buy this game yesterday, only to find it sold out at Best Buy, Circuit City, and apparently not yet stocked at Target. I ended up coming home with Endless Ocean and Zack & Wiki. Both were only $30 and are full of good times. I still crave the lack of heroes though...
Glad at least the game is doing well.

Z&W is a fine pickup! Although some of the levels hurt my brain, it was a great diversion after my 360 tanked :( After I clear Mass Effect it'll be back to Galaxy and Z&W for me! Not to mention I'm almost done with Zelda on the DS... Linebeck is an ass...

I need a HERO! I need a hero. He's gotta be strong and he's gotta be fast. And he's gotta be fresh from the fight.

IMO complaining that No More Heroes graphics are "jagged and not realistic" is like complaining that Sin City sucks because it is not in color. Miss. Point.

It looks like the same style as the Interstate 76 characters... which was frickin awesome in my book.

The game's rough-around-the-edges look is part of its appeal, graphically, but there are other gripes about the overworld, namely the abundance of invisible walls
Also the inability to go on a killing spree, but the abundance of side-missions alleviates that

@ Mr Khan
You could argue the same thing in 3D Mario games.
Face it, Santa Destroy is a hub world. Just because you are driving around a city that does not mean it is automatically GT-fucking-A.

This game is totally freaking awesome. I picked it up and I am very pleased with it. If this is where Wii games might be going in the future, I have more hope for their style. Seriously, if you have a wii, you owe it to yourself to give this game a shot.

xplay gave it a 100, "XPLAY SUCKS AT REVIEW A MANWOMAN LIKE MORGAN CAN'T REVIEW" what did gamespot do "OMG GAMESPOT FIRE PEOPLE FOR MONEY" what about gamespy "WTF IS GAMESPY N00B" what about ign "THERE SO BIASES".
I've heard all of them get called down and wounder, is there one true site ever will actually accept as a decent review site "not accepting their score 100% but actually give them credit for a good job", or should I keep dreaming.

I picked up NMH and loving it (Suda51 fanboy due to Killer7), and my thoughts align perfectly with Gamespy: wonderfully stylish, bizarre and crazy, but with a few hitches in its get along.
Gamespot's score, while pleasing, couldn't stop me from snidely thinking whether or not they got paid for the review. They've got a long road ahead of them in order to get back any measure of credibility.

i picked it up today and it's a blast. the camera is a bit wonky, but it really is loads of fun. and i haven't EVER laughed as much playing any other game. it is genuinely funny, in a cheesy, otaku kinda way. all the little details just fit together. the cell phone is great. the dialog really carries well. the voice acting works well. killing people is a blast. it's almost a button masher, but it all makes sense. i can actually choose to choose different commands while i'm in the middle of a frenetic battle (though the boss battles about kill my wrist). it's not perfect, but it's a million times better than most everything else out there. and it's actually...fun! it doesn't feel like a job to play. i'm actually smiling while i play, and that's very rare. i can't imagine anyone, who would go to the trouble of buying it, not liking it.
