Possible title of James Bond's next game announced
So, we (like many of the film fans out there) heard yesterday that James Bond's 22nd adventure would not, as we had secretly hoped, be called James Bond 22. No, producers decided to go once more to Ian Fleming's back catalog and dredge up the name Quantum of Solace, lifted from a short story featuring the world's most prolific spy. We didn't think much more about it.
But then today, we started wondering: Could Quantum of Solace also be the name of Bond's next video game adventure too? It makes a lot of sense, though we're not laying any money on it. What we are willing to say is that it would be the best title for a Bond game ever, except for Goldeneye, Everything Or Nothing, The World Is Not Enough, Nightfire, Agent Under Fire, Tomorrow Never Dies and From Russia With Love. Oh ... and what ever that racing game was called. Except for those, it's the best.

I so miss Everything or Nothing. Goldeneye be damned, that was by far my favorite Bond game.
J @ Jan 25th 2008 12:03PM
Yeah, Everything or Nothing is definitely the shizz, but the Multiplayer battle mode, that you have to unlock, made me sad.
ogvor @ Jan 25th 2008 12:09PM
Totally agree with both of you. Everything or Nothing was the best single player Bond game by far, but the Multiplayer was seriously lacking.
The name Quantam of Solace is kinda clunky, but seeing as Casion Royale blew me away (and made it my favorite Bond movie) as a huge Bond fan, I'm sure the movie will still be great. It's also based on a actual Ian Flemming story, so that helps too.
mike @ Jan 27th 2008 7:21PM
As a huge bond fan myself I was not impressed with casino royale. While it was a decent action movie, it did not feel like a bond film in the slightest. Bond fans love the whole world of bond, the unrealistic gadgets and technology from q (now r) and the witty charm of bond with the ladies. the new casino royale had little charm, 0 gadgets and was much more serious. I can understand why the average movie goer found the new bond to be a refreshign change, because it has become more mainstream serious. As a die hard bond fan, I gotta say I love the original style much better. in a way, casino royale was the worst bond. The movie was not bad, only the worst bond because it was not very good at portraying a bond movie.
I hope the new film goes back on track with the original style, but seeing the name, it being based on another ian fleming original, and the success of casino royale to the bond franchise, I highly doubt that is going to happen :(
Psaakyrn @ Jan 25th 2008 10:38AM
Is this related to Aria of Sorrow?
samfish @ Jan 25th 2008 10:39AM
Daniel Craig is the worst Bond ever.
kbomb1upc @ Jan 25th 2008 10:45AM
Agreed...
Night Elve @ Jan 25th 2008 10:45AM
Huh? Actually well at least for me Daniel Craig is one of the best James Bond.
The last movie was pretty awesome.
Obie @ Jan 25th 2008 10:46AM
Have you SEEN George Lazenby and Roger Moore?
Craig is cool, right up there with Connery and Brosnan...just different.
baby sea tuna @ Jan 25th 2008 10:51AM
He's only one movie in so I think he's still proving himself. As long as they don't make a Bond as retarded as any of the '80s Roger Moore movies, I think Craig's reputation will only increase.
Nomi @ Jan 25th 2008 11:03AM
I've seen every bond movie and I think he is one of the best. He really portrays what Id think Bond would be...
Noshino @ Jan 25th 2008 11:05AM
yah samfish
1) Sean Connery
2) Pierce Brosnan
3) Daniel Craig
4) Roger Moore
ugh
5) Timothy Dalten
5) George Lazenby
Yes, they both sucked...
ogvor @ Jan 25th 2008 12:13PM
According to the books, Craig is one of the top Bonds, right upt their with Timothy Dalten. Bond was a hard ass who didn't care for the regulations. He was not a silly joke (or pun) cracking old man who fought ridiclous, comic books style villians. Sean Connery was alright, Roger Moore was a clown who tainted the name. George Lazenby was passable, though he didn't get a real chance beign in only one movie (the book O.H.M.S.S. was one of the best) and Pierce Browsnan got worse with every movie.
KushielsScion007 @ Jan 25th 2008 12:20PM
Wow I actually agree with the assholes...
I was expecting to hate Daniel Craig but I freaking love him as Bond.
Pierce was a good Bond but he definitely lost a lil bit of his edge towards the end. I'll always remember him best in GoldenEye and The World is Not Enough.
Roger Moore was a funny guy and in that lay the problem...couldn't take him seriously enough. I just cracked up whenever he came on screen.
Sean Connery is probably my favorite after Craig now.
And the other two I just pretend never existed or disgraced the role of Bond.
Korova @ Jan 25th 2008 12:23PM
Noshino is official.
heckthor @ Jan 25th 2008 1:34PM
I beg to differ... He portraits what James Bond is about... Guns and Ladies...
DWells55 @ Jan 25th 2008 2:39PM
I thin Craig did a great job as Bond. He really brought some character to him in Casino Royale and I think it was a great revival for the series. However, I definitely agree with the guys above who said Brosnan and Connery were awesome.
Dustin @ Jan 25th 2008 10:44AM
And the always-funny anagram of "Quantum of Solcace" is....
James Bond: Canal Mosque Tofu!
baby sea tuna @ Jan 25th 2008 10:52AM
Delicious!
StarFoxA @ Jan 25th 2008 11:09AM
Why does this title remind me of Castlevania?
StrangeBum @ Jan 25th 2008 11:36AM
Aria of Sorrow?
Harmony of Dissonance?
I would guess that's why? But it, like most other Bond movie titles, are pretty amazing. 'From Russia With Love' takes the cake for me though. Too bad the cake is a lie ;-)
StarFoxA @ Jan 25th 2008 12:14PM
Indeed, as I would enjoy some cake just about now.

How about James Bond: Name of Suck
J @ Jan 25th 2008 1:29PM
The producers of Bond movies have often taken short stories and radically changed or extended the plot to create a feature length film from them, but Quantum of Solace... Hell, this is a story about a trophy wife who uses and then cheats on her husband who offers her no forgiveness or compassion. Bond's role in it? Listening to someone tell him the story. That's it. They're desperate this time, that's for sure.
Thomas @ Jan 25th 2008 2:09PM
Not desperate. They're just running out of Fleming-original titles to draw on. All the novels have already been adapted. What else is there? "007 in New York?" Sounds like a fish-out-of-water comedy or a bad horror movie.
"Quantum of Solace" is actually a good story. Obviously they'll have to fill it out as they did with "For Your Eyes Only" or the slightly better "The Living Daylights," hopefully drawing elements from other Bond books. For instance, Vespa's captive lover might set up a dynamic similar to Domino & her brother from Thunderball, thereby introducing a new SPECTRE-like super-criminal agency.
They did such an awesome job expanding on and updating Casino Royale, I have nothing but faith in this rebooted franchise. Oh and a game would be nice.
Lijik @ Jan 25th 2008 8:56PM
They made "007 in New York" it was called "a chase scene in Live and Let Die" which was a really, really terrible movie plotwise.
Nicholas Sulikowski @ Jan 25th 2008 1:47PM
I have to applaud the creators though for managing to actually squeeze 007 into this very odd title.

BananaBoat @ Jan 25th 2008 4:03PM
That name sucks.
Hell, let me toss out some better titles. "A view to a shagging" "For your mouth only", ok, that's all I've got.
Really though, name sucks.
cj @ Jan 25th 2008 9:28PM
Quantum of Solace???? It sounds like a Scientology book.

Careful there: Tom Cruise is watching you.
Everyone knows that he has mystical powers, but no one is allowed to talk about it.
Batzarro @ Jan 25th 2008 10:58PM
Bond and racing: Why didn't I think of that?
Alterego: Remember when they offered you to smoke that pipe and you said no?
Oh...I see.
ThornedVenom @ Jan 26th 2008 1:45AM
How come everyone in this thread knows so much about James Bond?!!
I grew up watching Pierce Brosnan portraying Bond, although I heard that he sorta strayed away from what Bond was meant to be (in the sense that he was too much of a charmer and not enough of a spy... and that he relied too heavily on gadgetry unlike Sean Connery).
Casino Royale although was a very mixed salad for me: I really enjoyed some sequences (like the parkour in the beginning) but I disliked others like the really long poker moment. But it was revitalizing for the series in my opinion.
PS: I know a guy whose name is also Daniel Craig. They call him "007" at school.
t_m @ Jan 27th 2008 12:34PM
Grew up watching brosnan? God now I feel old...
It probably should be mentioned that Goldeneye effectively revived the series from the dead. And brosnan WANTED to do a tougher bond.. but they wouldn't let him. It was the later brosnan bonds that went off track.. specifically Tomorrow Never Dies (which would have sucked entirely without Yeoh) and Die Another Day (which degenerated into massive sci-fi suckitude as soon as the sword fight was over)
Dalton also wanted to do a tougher bond.. and in hindsight his pics weren't bad (except that they had terrible comedy moments and leading ladies).
Casino Royale rocked largely BECAUSE it had the COOL poker scenes. For once bond went back to actually spying and doing something other than just blowing from one chase scene to the next.
The fact that they have said the next bond movie will have "twice as much action" is a very bad sign imho.. it means they are gonna go back to bang-bang mindless action and stop having decent acting and plots mixed in.
rokerovakero @ Jan 27th 2008 5:17PM
Daniel Craig is the realest James Bond ever.
Sean Connery is the coolest James Bond.
Roger Moore is the funniest James Bond.
George Lazenby is the most accurate portrayer ofJames Bond.
Timothy Dalton is the nastiest(evil) James Bond.
Pierce Brosnan is the best looking James Bond.
David Niven is the worst James Bond in every possible way. yet he was Ian Fleming's first choice to portray James Bond which ended up being Sean Connery, he was even mentioned in the books...
Draken Stark @ Jan 28th 2008 5:39PM
Wow, ok. That name sounds like a Star Trek episode title more than a action packed James Bond movie...
