Today's most familiar video: LOST gameplay footage
There's something eerily familiar about watching this gameplay footage for Lost: Via Domus. Maybe it's Charlie running past your character on the plane, the subsequent crash, the tail that almost crushes Hurley. From the good digitization of Ben to the bad digitization of bearded Mr Friendly, the video brings about a good sense of déjà vu.
It even shows all the essential gameplay needed for a game about Lost -- talking, running and typing numbers! Oh yeah, there's also photography and holding a gun menacingly, but really ... it's all about the numbers. Video, with requisite flashback (or is it flash-forward?), after the break.

"We're the good guys" WHACK!
There should have been a big "OWNED" signed after that.
But honestly, I still don't get how they can turn the series into a game, I mean, all you'll be doing is running away from the black smoke and trying to kill the others, with a few things mixed inbetween. Not much if your asking me.
Mike-453 @ Jan 25th 2008 5:49AM
It's called an Adventure game, a genre that seems to be nearly dead...
Tarvus Domicus @ Jan 25th 2008 1:57AM
So...
Obviously the game's finished if it debuts next month. I bet it was originally intended to tie in with a FULL season of Lost. Now that the writer's strike has destroyed that possibility I'm wondering if the game will reveal secrets ahead of its sibling TV show. Everyone who had a part in making this game probably knows how the show will end. How could they do it without knowing? How will the game end? Time will tell.
bounchfx @ Jan 25th 2008 2:13AM
No, it's seasons 1-3.
They do not know how the show ends, I guarantee you.
vidGuy @ Jan 25th 2008 2:24AM
The writers and producers barely know how the series ends and definitely don't know many of the details leading through everyone's story arc. I doubt 'lowly' game developers got any bits that haven't been aired already.
Tamachan87 @ Jan 25th 2008 6:04AM
I saw in an interview that they knew the ending, but after it got as popular as it did they started to add filler to pad it out (or milk it for all it's worth, however you look at it).
Zach S @ Jan 25th 2008 9:44AM
Considering A) They've started "flash forwards" now and B) ABC has put a definitive timetable on the series, I'm pretty sure they now know where it's headed and generally where it ends. I'm sure not everything is filled in specifically, but they must have an idea of the finale of the show, to some degree.
Joe @ Jan 25th 2008 10:22AM
I don't think this game can be considered entirely canon. I mean, in the first few seconds, despite being 1000 miles off course and unable to contact anyone, a person on the plane is having a nice chat on an in-flight phone.
Mookie @ Jan 25th 2008 1:57AM
Man, I don't think they even got some of main cast to even voice the characters. I'm fairly certain Jack is being voiced by Steven Jay Blum.
vidGuy @ Jan 25th 2008 2:00AM
Looks good. Some of the environments look like utter crap; hope that's only the video's resolution. As a HUGE fan of the show, I'm wondering if this is going to translate or not, though I'm glad they are creating new storylines.
Saria the Cat @ Jan 25th 2008 4:48PM
Yeah, I'm just going to cross my fingers. I love Lost but I'm well aware of how crappy the video game version of any non-video game medium can be. :(
Nushio (NDF - Blue) @ Jan 25th 2008 2:04AM
That 3d-version of Jack reminds me of Sylar from Heroes.
Nushio (NDF - Blue) @ Jan 25th 2008 2:16AM
Actually, now that I've seen the video, its not Jack who I thought Sylar was, its actually 'you'
Sam @ Jan 27th 2008 4:46AM
Yes, while flying on a plane to absorb the last of the heroes powers you are in a plane crash, after landing you decide to "forget" your memory and stash all of your criminal records in "the locker" that jack and them find later. Yeah, i'm an NBC writer that quit and got hired at ABC

Awesome.
Brandon @ Jan 25th 2008 2:08AM
Wow the voice acting is absolute garabge, the graphics aren't much to talk about either
im a lost fanatic, but i wont be picking this game up
a lost game has potential, if it separated itself enough from the main storyline of the show, had good voice acting and a big world with non-linear gameplay (maybe some sort of choose a side kind of things, others or the survivors, and whether or not you want to focus on escape or setting up a new life)
ChiTownRuler23 @ Jan 25th 2008 2:11AM
this game will be "lost" deep inside the bargain bin at gamestop
Maximilian Lockwood @ Jan 25th 2008 2:19AM
BOWWWWWWING!
Yea. That's why I've never watched the show. You really can't go in with just a game plan and no real end-scenario. Shitty writing.
vidGuy @ Jan 25th 2008 2:28AM
I guess this shows just how polarizing the show can be. LOST has some of the best writing on television, IMO. Many of the WTF details or odd things in early episodes are explained 20 or more episodes later. The characters aren't flat and there is plenty of who-dun-it drama. The background mythology and ARGs add plenty to what you see in a 45 minute episode. Easter eggs galore, too.
Guess you just gotta be in the mood for more thought-provoking, high brow tv and less interested in immediate explanations.
iMax @ Jan 25th 2008 2:38AM
Shitty writing, yeah. That's why each season has had 14+ million viewers, the show has stayed in the top 20 shows watched, and has won Best Drama from multiple award shows. Right.
Geist @ Jan 25th 2008 3:32AM
Er, iMax don't confuse quality with public opinion. I think Lost has excellent writing and good pacing, but I also realize that there are just as many if not more people watching American Idol. Now do you think the two are equal? Cause I would love to see American Idol burn.
ThornedVenom @ Jan 25th 2008 2:28AM
I don't care much for the polygon count, but the animation suffers. But the lighting is great.
I'm a bit suspicious about the game's pacing though.
Ben @ Jan 25th 2008 3:03AM
A story's writing is only as good as its ending.
I thought the X-Files was well-written too - until it became clear that rather than tying everything together at the end, it all just balled into a big mess o' congealing crap.
Lost is very similar, IMHO. Sad, because I do think it's a good show. But one of the reasons I prefer shows like The Shield is that they clearly have their character arcs figured out well in advance - even seasons ahead of time.
Zoot Suit Jedi @ Jan 25th 2008 10:14AM
It's not about the destination, it's about the journey.
Sam Coulson @ Jan 25th 2008 3:19AM
The 2 things you can hope for in a game like this, Animation and Voice acting are below par and thus greatly reduces my chances of even Gameflying it.
Voice acting in some cases is so-so, but in others its very shitty, the "we're the good guys" line was absolutely horrendous.
Then theres animation, which is basically nonexistent in today's standards. While watching this video I kept thinking to myself "man, this game needs to be rendered in the Heavy Rain engine"
And does anyone else think the main character looks like the guy from Dead Rising? Seriously.
Geist @ Jan 25th 2008 3:36AM
Well he is a photographer.
Oh man plot twist: He's the same guy, and he lost his memory after taking the photographs in Dead Rising. It's all coming together now!
Kn1ves @ Jan 25th 2008 3:50AM
I'm buying, anyone else?
Hashbrown_Hunter @ Jan 25th 2008 3:52AM
I am. I think the strength of the game will be the story and the puzzles/shooting. The graphics are solid, but the character models are AWFUL.
markhill66 @ Jan 25th 2008 4:08AM
I pretty pumped about this. It's already in my Gamefly queue. I love the absence of a HUD. I reminds me of King Kong, which I liked. I wonder what the achievements will be?

He looks like a young John Malkovic.
*Shrugs.
riggs @ Jan 25th 2008 8:49AM
is that avon barksdale at the beginning of the video?!
Sherv @ Jan 25th 2008 9:10AM
Yeah, riggs knows what's up. The Wire is a prime example of brilliant writing and acting. Lost began as intriguing but it sports such a trite script and typical hooks that myself and many of my friends quickly "lost" interest.
mike @ Jan 25th 2008 9:13AM
this looks like utter crap. The graphics look like their from the ps2, Jakes voice acting is terrible. Jack also looks really bad. Only lock and hurly seem to look their characters.
Im a fan of the lost show and was sorta looking forward to this. Now that Ive seen it, I dont care for it at all. what a HUGE dissapointment.
Hashbrown_Hunter @ Jan 26th 2008 1:58AM
...you know that all of the actors were on board for the game, right?
Well now you do.
bigsofty @ Jan 25th 2008 9:44AM
Writers are Lost for an ending... feels like script writers ad-libbing...
Zach S @ Jan 25th 2008 9:59AM
This looks like it has a lot of potential to be good (i.e. a really good story and fairly solid gameplay) but the graphics are generally butt ugly (although the animations look pretty good for what they're working with) and, sadly, they didn't get the actors to record dialogue (Jack's soundalike is passable, but still...). Seriously, why not? In a game tied so closely to the show, it's not like the actors couldn't put in the like 2 or 3 days it takes to do voice overs!!! This is one game that I'd actually like to see delayed to fix the graphics and things...
Mr.ESC @ Jan 25th 2008 11:56AM
Phff Lost,Make a Sliders game already!

the more games i see like this, the better uncharted looks
