Four48 crew tackling Paper Mario for weekend Child's Play marathon

Remember those wacky kids who tried to beat the four 3D Zelda games in a single two day sitting, and failed miserably due to technical difficulties and general overzealousness? Well, they're back, comically tiny TV and all, to take on the N64 cult classic Paper Mario, in an attempt to raise more donations for Child's Play (their first outing netted a total of $1200 for the charity).
These weekend warriors (called the Four48 crew in honor of their first ambitious marathon) are planning on sitting down with a new game every Saturday morning, and not getting up until the ending credits roll. You can watch their exploits on their video webstream (and donate to a worthy cause) on their site. We highly suggest it -- if watching these guys trudge through classic games doesn't trigger your nostalgia gland, at least it's interesting to watch bedsores develop in real time.

If their N64 played up that much before with Majora's Mask, will they go with the N64 version or just use the VC version to play this through? I'd have thought they'd be trying to do all 3 Paper Marios through from start to end like with Zelda.
Slaziman @ Jan 26th 2008 4:09PM
I think that's impossible. But at least 2 of them would've been nice.
Dopple Boppler @ Jan 26th 2008 4:17PM
I think they were actually using the Zelda Collector's GameCube disc in their Wii to play Majora's Mask.
Trickob @ Jan 26th 2008 5:14PM
yeah, they were using the collector's version on their wii and i can attest to the fact that majora's mask can be just as glitchy in that format as it was playing on the cartridge on the n64. its still an awesome game, though.
better luck this time guys!!

Their site never feeds the live video well. Its always very laggy and after a minute cuts out completely. Maybe its because of the coverage these guys are getting from sites like this, or maybe they need a better feed just.
Trickob @ Jan 26th 2008 5:18PM
this is a better feed:

you have to sign up to the site but it only takes a minute and then you can even chat with other viewers

I'd just like to take the time to say that Paper Mario is a kickass game. Love it. That is all.
Also, these guys are doing some cool stuff. Whatever raises money for a great cause, no?
Ignatius @ Jan 26th 2008 4:29PM
This shouldn't take 48 hours... O.o
But alrighty. :P
GoldenS1104 @ Jan 26th 2008 4:29PM
Hmmm... I wonder if I did something like this if it would count towards my required community service hours for school...
I think what these guys are doing is great. Charity can be fun!

Seriously that would take about a day. If I recall, that game was short. Like 20 hours.
...Jan... @ Jan 27th 2008 12:56PM
- I have 3 out of 7(?) stars on that game...and it took me 20 hours. But, I'm more of the 100% perfectionist that takes all the sidequests and talks to everyone in the game. Everyone!
- Do they have a download of their videos? I'd watch some of it if I had time.
Trickob @ Jan 27th 2008 2:49PM
i know what you mean jan. i obsess over everything in most rpgs. you can usually take the average time it takes a normal person to beat a game and double or triple it for me because i investigate EVERYTHING.
Dustin @ Jan 26th 2008 5:03PM
Ya, these guys definately caught on to something great. I really hope they space out the marathons a little more, though, if only so they can plan things out and let media attention build up just slightly more. For example, I know how taxing it was on them to do the 48-hour Zelda marathon, but if they did more 48-hour marathons once a month, it woulnd't be so bad. Then maybe Joystiq could write up a short post telling everyone about the even a few days before it started, and then post a reminder article on it after it starts.
Dio @ Jan 26th 2008 5:41PM
Did you guys watch this?:

No... the only one of these worth donating to really is the Desert Bus. I mean, that game is a pain, Sure donating money to Childs play is good, and great, but they way they're going about it is meh, No desire to donate, unlike desert bus.
Trickob @ Jan 26th 2008 6:40PM
your ideas intrigue me and i would like to subscribe to your newsletter
Trickob @ Jan 26th 2008 6:49PM
nevermind the newsletter

i just googled these guys to see what's so great about them over child's play and they are indeed quite cool but they give their donations to child's play soooo... what difference does it make??
hvnlysoldr @ Jan 26th 2008 10:00PM
Without trying too much I completed all sidequests and everything in Paper Mario in 24 hours. Just cheat with Amayzee Dayzee's. And I wished they picked Metroid Prime in honor of the late developer.
Bryan @ Jan 27th 2008 3:17AM
They aren't doing it in 48 hours.
The 48 was their first goal and the name stuck.
They set a goal of 17 hours for this one.
glass soldier @ Jan 27th 2008 11:35AM
i downloaded this ut never got to beating it
