Fix News has already lost tons of viewers from their terrible coverage of the 2008 elections.
They often leave out candidates from polls, skew information, and outright lie. I will not watch any Faux Noise broadcast on television.

She'd score more points with me if she apologized to Geoff Keighley for being a condescending t'nuc to him.

hay everyone needs to go to amazon.com and make a review about her book, that they didnt read. i just did it now. it would be awsome if we could all make up some BS about her book like she did mass effect and she would have like hundreds of bad reviews by gamers. GO DO IT

congratulations fellow gamers, we may have actually made a real difference in things. This is a landmark instance where the internet blogs, etc, the voice of the real people, is actually heard and carried out.

Cooper Lawrence, may god have mercy on your soul... you deserver what's coming to you. An empty apology to recoup losses is not an apology ma'am.

Stop picking on the lawrence girl. By singling her out you are letting fox off the hook, and aiming all your wrath at the WRONG TARGET.

I used to work for a company who's experts got called in to go on tv all the time... they were typically given almost no time to do research, and given a set of background information by the tv station and asked to comment.

Unfortunately this is how TV (and written) news works these days.. they give someone some biased info, give them ten seconds to read it, and then ask their opinion. Then they get their "I'm outraged" headline.

I'd imagine this lady was called up and asked to come on air, told lots of untrue facts about the game, (like it was violent, pornographic, etc..), given no time to research, and then thrown infront of a camera.

Maybe she should have said "i'd rather not comment until i know more", but then they'd just have got the next "expert" on their list and done the same.

The news anchor was just as biased and incorrect as the guest, and SHE has no excuse.

EA won my praise for standing up... but unfortunately they are chickening out of blaming the real (BIG!) culprit and going after the easy target who can't fight back.

(the amazon reviews were funny though!)

I agree. I don't think it's so much Cooper being all wrong about stuff...It's the network and it's anchor, wich, when told that such a such a nudity didn't exist, SHOULD have analized it fairly. Instead, they jumped over the argument, and kept running with the fake information. Here's roughtly how i see it.

Host: Now we're here to discuss the passing away of Adam West. His death is controvertial, as he is thought to have strapped a bomb to his car and blown up a comics shop. How do you feel about it, book publishing person.
BPP: Well, he died a disgrace to America and everything good he did is now forfeit.
Host:Counterpoint?
CP: It's completely fake. Adam West hasn't died, and he's certainly not a terrorist.And...
Host: Well, the fact is his attack WAS devastating. What do you think will be the damage?

See? If you're given a counterpoint that the subject of a debate DOES NOT EXIST, you can't gloss it over: It's a damn important point! But the network INSISTED in taking this story in a sensasionalist way. It's not like info on Mass Effect is scarce. But they had ONE nut who claimed it was porn, so, they ran with it.

Offtopic: Did they really gain the right to slander in court? I mean, slander is sort of a crime, and at least a civil suit on acount of damages should be possible.

what i love about this whole thing is that on fox's website is a review of mass effect. So in one instance they promote it and now they are knocking it down. LOL

"I really regret saying that, and now that I’ve seen the game and seen the sex scenes it’s kind of a joke."

So, you were willing to make outrageous claims about a scene in a game that you had NEVER EVEN SEEN, let alone never having even played the game??

I would ask you to use your brain next time, but clearly that won't do you much good.

Everyone here seems to be ignoring that the panel after the initial debate concluded something with which we all agree: Getting M-rated games out of kids' hands is the parents' job, not the Government's.

I think that Geoff got quite a good amount of our side in, and the expert was revealed the fool she is. In that regard, the FNC debate actually provided a great service to gamer-kind. YEA, GAMER-KIND!

Wow. I usually find Adam Sessler annoying and moronic, but he (or his writers) actually laid out a wonderful counter-argument and made an intelligent point. I enjoyed the quip at the end about the author's book and Rupert Murdoch - nicely done!

I just went to Amazon. This was the front page:

"You looked at The Cult of Perfection: Making Peace, by Cooper Lawrence. 20% buy this alternative: No More Heroes. 12% buy this alternative: Burnout Paradise"

Oh, the irony.

The news outlets are all a bunch of idiots. CNN is one of the worst offenders in my opinion, followed by FOX news. The only place I like to get my news is the BBC. They seem to be the most professional and least bias. And the New York Times? Wasn't that communist paper founded by Stalin? That piece of garbage has to be the least credible newspaper out there. Anyway, enough with my rant. Mass Effect is awesome!

Here's a quote from her article..

In an interview on Friday, Ms. Lawrence said that since the controversy over her remarks erupted she had watched someone play the game for about two and a half hours.“I recognize that I misspoke,” she said. “I really regret saying that, and now that I’ve seen the game and seen the sex scenes it’s kind of a joke.

HAHAH
She probably was watching her 8 year old play

correct me if I'm wrong, but was Cooper ever referred to as an "expert" on games? If my ears serve me right, they referred to her as a "psychology specialist."

Not saying she was right in what she said. She should not have dared open her mouth on the subject - she clearly was just in need of book promotion.

Watch the video again though, and you'll see what's worse than that: the title of the story alone, "sexbox" is horribly alarmist and skewed right from the start. Then, the headline: "Mass Effect game features FULL DIGITAL NUDITY" which is a blatant lie and grounds for a lawsuit. Then, we have the amount of time given to Cooper versus the SpikeTV representative. Then, we have the way that the man defending Mass Effect was treated by the host and his opponent, and the way his comments were ignored entirely. To top it all off, the segment ended with a "round table" discussion that consisted entirely of people who had negative opinions about the game. fair and balanced indeed.

What I'm saying is, this isn't on Cooper. Yes, she made idiotic and ignorant statements, and I'm glad her book's rating got ruined on Amazon - she learned her lesson.

Fox News however, has not learned their lesson, nor has the media as a whole. This is not the first or the last time the media has used video games as a paranoia-inducing scapegoat. Fox News isn't the only guilty perpetrator here. However, if they can be taught a lesson and retract their statements/publicly apologize, maybe the rest of media really will learn something from it.
