NES/GB/GBC emulator handheld is powered by the Sun

No, friend, that's not a hip gadget from the new, unfortunately titled James Bond film -- it's a very real, very sexy handheld MP4 player capable of running old school Nintendo emulators using solar power. It also plays MP3's, stores e-books (which it can then read aloud to you, a consideration for our illiterate friends), records audio and displays images, all for a cool $123.32.
Here's the best part -- it also has a USB port to connect with other portable devices and share the solar energy it has collected, like a mama bird feeding a regurgitated bolus to her young. That's right, not only can it play your favorite games from the 8-era, it's also an Al Gore-approved renewable energy source.

Cool.. but where's the SNES-love?
lilguy @ Jan 28th 2008 8:38AM
We can always throw in homebrew cards to emulate other consoles and then we have an all-in-one handheld console that runs on the sun!
Nigeria @ Jan 27th 2008 11:35AM
The sun is my weapon of choice.
ThornedVenom @ Jan 27th 2008 11:36AM
Our emulators shall blot out the sun!

THEN WE'LL PLAY IN THE SHADE!!!
DemonGSides @ Jan 27th 2008 11:56AM

But you can't play and charge at the same time!!!!
playwhutyalike @ Jan 27th 2008 11:40AM
I almost contacted Chris Hanson because I thought it would be powered by the son.
Lame joke, nevermind.
Gary @ Jan 27th 2008 6:03PM
The difference between what you said and other jokes is that other jokes are jokes.
Vegnagun bwf @ Jan 27th 2008 11:46AM
If Optimus Prime went into handheld form, that would be it.
Moofree @ Jan 27th 2008 12:32PM
Where does the energon go?

Offtopic: Kudos to Griffith for holding down the fort at joystiq on the weekend. 8 posts in a row and good ones. Tanks!
Trickob @ Jan 27th 2008 2:40PM
i was thinking that too. also, "regurgitated bolus" would be a kick-ass name for a band.
Patrick @ Jan 27th 2008 12:11PM
Did you really just write a blog to the illiterate? What sense does that make!!!
fco. @ Jan 27th 2008 5:25PM
that's why they also have podcasts
pepsimaxx @ Jan 27th 2008 12:33PM
damn that thing is cool, but will it only work UNDER the sun? What about at night? haha
t_m @ Jan 27th 2008 12:39PM
Worth it for the ebook reader... if it works correctly (i have yet to find one that does).
Shame no snes or gba... were there any GOOD gbc games?
t_m @ Jan 27th 2008 12:44PM
Wow... there are 2 whole zelda games i never knew existed!!! Goes off to investigate..
Hafk @ Jan 27th 2008 2:29PM
The 2 Zelda games Oracle of Ages/Seasons. As well as the DX version of Links Awakening, which had the Color Dungeon.
Pokemon Gold, Silver, and Crystal, of course.
Metal Gear Solid was suprisingly really good.
I also spent way too much time playing Mario Tennis.
wootman @ Jan 27th 2008 12:39PM
cool idea, but until SNES and genesis is supported, the gp2x looks alot more interesting, considering solar panels cost 5 bucks (got 2 chargers for 7$)
rasgueado @ Jan 27th 2008 12:39PM
Technically speaking... the sun is not a renewable energy source. It'll burn itself out in about 5 billion years.
t_m @ Jan 27th 2008 2:32PM
You mean it isn't solar powered?
MarMar @ Jan 27th 2008 4:38PM
technically speaking you can plant forests and compost it and let the Earth cook it for a few million years and pump up some fresh Texas Tea
BigD145 @ Jan 27th 2008 3:25PM
I'll stick with building my own 12W solar array for my PocketPC.
mykie @ Jan 27th 2008 4:28PM
DS + R4 = better than this
thought you should know.
maverick_saturn_626 @ Jan 28th 2008 7:36AM
Eww, actually, looks quite cool, just noticed the sandisk :)
Can store games ? :O
lilguy @ Jan 28th 2008 8:39AM
I'm guessing the SD card is a feature for expandable memory for the MP4 media
maverick_saturn_626 @ Jan 28th 2008 8:46AM
Probs, but chances are, like PSP, its for game storage.
