Weekly Webcomic Wrapup is made of bricks

We've been looking at LEGO gaming art a lot lately -- both as 3D busts and clever uses of characters. Then there are two dimensional sprite recreations, as seen in Lwelyk's blog. It really makes us want to buy some building bricks and make a Joystiq logo.

Could someone explain the humor behind the one based on 2001: A Space Odyssey? I know humor explained is humor lost, but still...

Have you seen 2001? Basically, the AI computer on board decides to kill the humans because they're going to disconnect him. The joke in this comic is that instead of just killing the humans, he's replaced them with GLaDOS from Portal (the digital voice in that "Still Alive" song).

Other than that, there's not much.

My terrible shame is never having played Portal :(

My PC gets incredibly buggy whenever it tries to run apps with 3D graphics (ANY apps with 3D graphics, even my old copy of Sonic R), and i lack a 360 or PS3

yes, and the fact that it's winning is because of an unfunny portal reference. seriously.. lets just see a webcomic with the lyrics to the song or a piece of cake or something, i'm sure it'll be a blast.

this meme has run its course, lets fucking move on already.

Mr Khan the orange box is available for other platforms besides PC... Rent it from gamefly if you have to, portal only takes a day to beat.

Oh C'mon it's only one of the greatest books of all time. Of course they screwed up the scene in the gay ass movie. Dave is inside the ship the whole time.

Abuzar, I understand, "the book was better" is something I say a lot. But it's 2001-a-fucking-Space-Odyssey. There are few movies that are so ingrained in American pop culture as 2001. Keep in mind that this was a time in film making when directors could basically do whatever they wanted, so if Stanley fucking Kubrick put Dave outside the ship in his "gay ass" movie, I'm assuming he had a good Goddamn reason.
Also: Internet? Can you stop talking about Portal, forever? Please?

Wow, the Elite Journalism 101 is hilarious. I almost choked when I read the last panel. Laughing while in the middle of a laugh is hard on the old windpipe.

Actually, having now opened Opera (I'm on 256mb RAM, give me a break for being hesitant to load Firefox AND Opera at the same time), I take back my previous comment for that comic blew balls.

Agreed. I love Shortpacked. It's not often gaming related, but since I'm a nerd of many shades I can greatly appreciate it.

I don't see Shortpacked on the voting options... is this a mistake, or am I just not interpreting the descriptions right?

Agreed. Although this week Pod Bay Doors gets my vote because 2001 is one of my favorite movies.

The curious origins comic reminds me of in Super Mario Sunshine how there was a family of raccoons that were a family of raccoons in Delfino Plaza that where selling Shine.

It's like, Do you fucking people know it's stolen, first of all? and second, why are you selling it to just anyone? Sha-dy

So this, uh, family of racoons... they were a, uh, family of racoons?

That only assists my theory that they're related to Tom Nook.

I'm not exactly sure whats so hard about coding polls on this site, but its different every fucking week. Last week was decent enough, at least we had the names of the sites in the poll along with the title... but this week not only is it out of order but we don't even get the sites for credit to the winners?

You know, I get it, Portal is friggen amazing, webcomic guys need to stop referencing it. It's been done to death now. I don't even like the game anymore because it's been done too much.
